Warning: Send passport applications off EARLY
Robert Poste's Child replied to sugarmouse's topic in The Lounge
Steady on, LL. It doesn't sound like the delays were due to anything the OP did. -
There's something rather vulgar about a crematorium. The decor's usually somewhere between a Travelodge and a Harvester. Not a good note to end on.

London's skinniest home! (Denmark Hill)
Robert Poste's Child replied to Supernanny*'s topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Couple on Friern Road too I think. And isn't there one you can see from the platform at P Rye station which is the width of a Mini? -
For me that wears off too quickly, but then I've got the English inability to cope if the outside temperature goes above 20 or below 12. Early May and late September are usually OK, and I do like a nice traditional wet summer.

I realise this isn't the answer you're looking for but what I do is wring out a handkerchief in cold water and drape it over one foot - sounds bonkers, I know, but there are a lot of veins close to the surface there and it cools you down as it dries (for the same reason the sole of the foot is the best place for lavender oil if you need help sleeping). You can combine this with a dab of Vick around the nose and/or China oil on the temples. Feels like there's a cool breeze.

Anti social behaviour (a man urinating)
Robert Poste's Child replied to cella's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You know, I realised this evening as I schlepped through Shoreditch (skirts held slightly away from pavements and walls, breathing through my mouth) that there are probably people who think stench of piss = urban = cool. It's probably being brought here by people who can't afford zone 1. That's just wrong. (My phone changed the above to 'stench of loss', which I liked so much I almost left it.) -
Tiny Little Things That Cause You Irrational Rage

Tiny Little Things That Cause You Irrational Rage
Robert Poste's Child replied to PinkyB's topic in The Lounge
This isn't irrational rage but I'm going to put it here anyway rather than start another 'to the person who...' thread. Irrational upset perhaps. When I got to my station this morning there were problems with trains so I cycled to Denmark Hill to get the overground round to the City. It was standing room only as usual. At the next station loads more people got on and I was pushed quite hard and struggled to stay upright - I'm a bit unsteady at times as I have problems with tendons in one ankle that KCH hasn't been able to fix. As I tried to get myself stable the woman who had pushed me started making comments. I tried to brush them off but she got quite personal. I'm not going to repeat what she said but it hit a nerve and I ended up in tears, which I'm ashamed to say I'm still struggling to shake off completely. I could tell from her instant aggression and tone of voice that she was looking for someone to take her feelings out on, and in her anger perhaps she didn't realise how it might sound to the person on the receiving end. My point is, please think before you vent your bad feelings on a stranger who just happens to be in front of you. -
Can anyone make a nice cuppa tea anymore?
Robert Poste's Child replied to malumbu's topic in The Lounge
I take my tea in the continental way, weak enough to see the pattern on the (bone china) cup through it, no adulteration. I'm inclined to use a teapot but, as it's a bit of a faff, what I'm doing right now is putting loose tea in a strainer that sits on top of the cup and pouring freshly boiled water through slowly. I like to watch the ever-changing patterns that appear on the surface of the tea when it's really hot. Very soothing. And then I spoil it slightly by reusing the same tea twice more. Not so good third time, but overall a better cup of tea and much more economical than bags. -

And Rachmaninov's piano concerto no.2. That should sort them out. (Edited because I can't see what I'm doing on this effing phone.)

I don't want a funeral but they'll probably do as they like (family motto 'No one cares what you think') so I'll go for The dance of the knights from Romeo and Juliet as they come in, to set the tone. Then maybe the Johnny Cash version of Hurt, or maybe Back to Black by Amy Winehouse. Then as the coffin slides away, Ace of Spades ny Motorhead.

Anti social behaviour (a man urinating)
Robert Poste's Child replied to cella's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Don't know if I read the OP wrong but to me the most offensive part is that he apparently chose to pee on a piece of street art. Peeing openly in the street is unarguably antisocial. I accept there are mitigating circumstances sometimes but it's certainly not acceptable social behaviour or people would do it totally openly, wouldn't they. If a man walked up to the entrance of Sainsbury's on a Saturday morning and casually peed against the glass he'd be arrested before he'd zipped his trousers up. It seems that as long as a man makes a half-hearted attempt to conceal what he's doing then some people think it's OK, which is a bit strange when you think about it. -
I know what you mean, but he's admitted it, hasn't he, just mot admitted to the underage part.

Things you shouldn't eat for lunch in the office.
Robert Poste's Child replied to numbers's topic in The Lounge
As someone said on the rage thread, sometimes it's not so much the smell as the noise. When a friend of mine chews she sounds like a horse eating stones. -

Once upon a time I worked with someone from Singapore who when she was feeling poorly would heat up fishy porridge im the microwave and eat it at her desk. For breakfast. That was quite challenging. -

Any kind of curry. MacDonalds. Basically see the women eating on the tube thread. -

Am I the only person who feels mildly disturbed that the OP is also looking for night vision goggles in the Wanted section?

In the late 80s / early 90s a lot of people I knew bought with a friend or group of friends first time but you don't hear so much of that now.
