I even wondered if the point was to get you to use a link that would download some kind of malware but, as you say, post seems an expensive and uphill way to go about that. Perhaps someone pressed send by mistake on a test version - but even that seems unlikely as with print you could pull it back before it left the building. Odd, isn't it.

I had that a few weeks back. Although it's set up to look like it comes from Southwark at first glance, it's hard to see what a scammer would gain as it doesn't include the codes you'd need to login and there are plenty of obvious mistakes, as you point out. I called Southwark anyway to make sure they were aware. The person I spoke sounded a bit baffled, even after discussing with colleagues, and said just ignore it.

Will ED pubs be showing the royal wedding? (Lounged)
Robert Poste's Child replied to staplemeg's topic in The Lounge
Me too, Louisa. Wasn't there an anarchist street party for the last one? I'd go to that. Last time I took my bike to Norfolk for the day and had it all to myself. -
If you're using the library's self service system, I guess that means you swipe in with your library card to start? Perhaps it would be worth exlaining what you're noticing to a manager at the library and ask them to trace which account(s) it's linking to. Maybe there's a shadow account on the system with a lot of credit in it.

No!! I'll be really sad if it's true. Soon there won't be anywhere left locally where you can get a proper breakfast that hasn't been mucked about with. Their coffee was great too.

Which kettle is the quietest? help please
Robert Poste's Child replied to womanofdulwich's topic in The Lounge
Thanks for the info, Mick Mac. Sounds better than I'd thought based on my very limited experience so far. -
How do I dispose of a rotten tree trunk?
Robert Poste's Child replied to redjam's topic in The Lounge
If you leave it there you could call it an insect sanctuary. It won't change anything but you'll probably feel better that way. (I have a 'wilderness' garden.) -
ED Nature Watch

In Brockwell Park there's a swan sitting on a nest with seven big blue eggs. It seems completely unfazed by all the interest from passers-by but the park keepers have put up a fence to stop people getting too close. -

I assumed you were just here to troll after reading a number of recent posts from you, all of which were heavy-handed, jeering put-downs. I didn't see any that looked like discussion or debate, but I'll be happy to be proved wrong.

Tiny Little Things That Cause You Irrational Rage
Robert Poste's Child replied to PinkyB's topic in The Lounge
Not rage exactly, more disillusionment: all winter you look forward to the warm weather - sitting in your garden, drying washing on the line instead of indoors, sitting on a park bench in the sun reading and so on. Then the reality of what other people do: barbecues, loud music and parties. Loud weed-filled party in Court Lane right now disturbing everyone in the surrounding streets so looks like another sleepless night. -
A temp office job working for minimum wage for a horrible, bullying solicitor who chain-smoked in the office. Jobs in the country being harder to come by, I kept up the 50-mile round trip for about five months before I caved.

new pavements in Dulwich Park
Robert Poste's Child replied to fitch's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I bet it'll mean a lot more people falling off bikes too as the kerbs are now too high to ride over. I've done it myself sometimes to avoid colliding with a child or dog that's run out unexpectedly. -
Why the tilde? Wouldn't it be easier to ask Admin to delete the thread?

Which kettle is the quietest? help please

How do you find the taste in tea, Mick Mac? Whenever I've come across one of them the water didn't taste like freshly boiled water should if you're making tea but perhaps the institutional ones aren't cleaned as often as they should be. Also, how do you find the cost of having it running all the time compared with a kettle? -
Which kettle is the quietest? help please
Robert Poste's Child replied to womanofdulwich's topic in The Lounge
I always use filtered water, so there's never any scale inside the kettle, but it's still noisy. I think the noise of the Russell Hobbs kettle must be measured at the point of boil rather than from the point where you switch it on as the noise does drop at the end. -

They might well have forgotten, as you say, but I didn't like to ask! I cleared them away as better - and easier - to do it before the foxes have had a go.

Major Fire on Peckham High St
Robert Poste's Child replied to pecksniff's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Just passed it on the bus. Fire crews are still there and the building behind the butchers seems to have been gutted. ETA Radio London news just said an investigation is underway and 70-75 firefighters were involved, so they must have been worried about it spreading through all those old buildings behind the shop fronts. -
Thanks. Recomposed myself by removing not one but two dirty nappies from roof of car parked outside my door. Could leave it for the neighbour involved but I guess they're not bothered and it seemed preferable to waiting until the foxes found them. Think I've had it with this area. So tired of putting up with antisocial behaviour.

Which kettle is the quietest? help please
Robert Poste's Child replied to womanofdulwich's topic in The Lounge
Looking back over kettles I've owned (for such is my life now) I think the plastic ones were all quieter than metal. -
I was turning right on my bike just now from DV up Calton Ave then right again up Court Lane. A group of 6-8 mopeds, at least one with two people on it, came up very fast behind and then around me, with at least one cutting up the wrong lane, missing me by a couple of inches as I turned right. They were bunched close together and weaving about, and perhaps thought it was funny as they were laughing and beeping. Presumably if that wasn't the right interpretation they'd have stopped to check if I was OK. Reported it to 101. Don't suppose the police will do anything but if the group succeed in killing someone obviously I'll feel bad if I hadn't reported it. Seems people have to be injured or killed before the authorities will deal with this menace.
