  1. Does anyone know if it's normal entry to the pub or are they doing tickets? Can't see anything on their website.
  2. Sounds like a question for Martin Lewis.
  3. That sounds like the community exercise group that meets on Peckham Rye at 10am on Saturdays (assume it's still going).
  4. I guess most people have never experienced London smog (I didn't but I can remember being told stories of how it was even in the 50s) and they've probably forgotten how bad traffic fumes used to be. Tragic that we're sliding back that way just because of fashionable home accessories. Wood-burners aren't cheap and I bet most people who have them can afford central heating.
  5. I know! Suddenly the Crown & Greyhound doesn't look as bad. Actually, one thing you can say for the Dog is they do the best fat chips around here.
  6. The last few years I've found myself having low-grade asthma at this time of year when people start using their stoves, when previously it was linked to hayfever for me. Generally people seem to start getting bored of them by the new year and it clears up. Barbecues and firepits can be a similar problem in the summer, more so in still weather when there's no breeze to break it up. I get the impression that plenty of people also use firelighters as that can be quite a noticeable smell at times. That said, you could make the same argument about street food and all the farmers markets and pop-up food villages on recent years. If you have to change trains southbound at P Rye in the evenings, for example, the smell can be really strong. Spitalfields is another one.
  7. I did suggest adding it to their thread, Sue. Just making an observation that James was much more proactive in his use of this forum.

  9. Dear God. You'd never want to have a night out in the West End again, would you?
  10. Any bus that goes through Camberwell seems prone to being delayed to swap drivers due to the bus garage. Doesn't seem to happen so much if you go via say Brixton though there's another hotspot in Kennington.
  11. Could it be Norovirus? It's going round and a friend told me the GP said it comes back one or more times over a month -12-24 hours of D&V, then OK for a few days, then it starts again. Eating out might be coincidental?
  12. At least there's no exit fee to stop you moving on if they do up the prices.
  13. The 42 is a nice scenic route to the city but has taken me over an hour and a half sometimes due to bottlenecking around Tower Bridge.
  14. Pity the poor folk who stay on till Penge...
  15. Thanks for the warning. Sounds worrying but perhaps the usage has gone up since the original quote or have they put their prices up? I'm with Ebico who are still claiming to be 'fighting fuel poverty' despite having hiked their rate by 20% this month. Service hopeless too.
  16. What DO you miss about the area then?
  17. Inspired by EDNate and the number 185, what's the worst localish journey by public transport? Not bad one-off journeys (hello, Southern), weather-related (Boris sauna-bus) or redevelopment (London Bridge 2013 to 2017 inclusive and still having flashbacks), but journeys that are awful in their own right. The number 12 from Oxford Circus to the library is convenient in that you don't need to change but you could literally get to Birmingham in the time it takes.
  18. Public transport route threads are always good value, aren't they? Always reminds me of the Ealing comedy where the people on the tube are still arguing about it long after the tourist who asked the question has got off. I always get confused which end of Dulwich is north because my personal compass seems to have the river as south.
  19. Would it be worth adding this to the Goose Green councillor thread? (If James Barber was still in office he'd have picked it up already I should think - come back James...)
  20. Was there another one today by any chance?
  21. I woke up this morning (sounds like the start of 'powercut blues') to find the time clock on the boiler was about 20 mins late. A powercut would explain it.
  22. The Florence isn't exactly intimate (hints of scaffolding) and the prices are silly - two glasses of white, ?18.20 recently. For a more informal, cosy kind of intimate, a corner in Cafe Prov or perhaps the garden room at the Picturehouse.
  23. With more bus routes being reduced, it's usually quicker to get whatever comes first and change a couple of times. Have you tried bus to FHill, overground to Canada Water, Jubilee to Green Park? Could do the same via PRye or DHill, but at rush hour buses are probably faster in the other direction.
  24. How annoying for you. Weirdly, the bike that my neighbour forgot to take with him when he moved six months ago is still standing behind our flats gathering cobwebs, getting in the way when we take the bins out.
