  1. Or buy a couple of cheap plastic laundry baskets so everyone can decant the finished wash and take over.
  2. Think it was teasing rather than pouring scorn, Jaywalker. To be honest your post was so, how to put it, high-altitude that I wondered if you were being satirical or had had quite a bit to drink. Each to their own, I guess.
  3. How can you bear it? There's always at least one who would clearly offer sexual favours in return for any kind of preferment plus several who suffer from the all-American 'if I just believe in myself and want it enough' delusion.
  4. Windows updates aren't managing to complete downloading but there are no error messages; it just keeps trying and as updates are set to download automatically in the background it's tricky to troubleshoot and you can't forcibly override it like you could in Windows 7. It sounds like there's been a general problem recently, so I don't think it's just me. Has anyone found a way to deal with this? I've tried restarting and run the Windows troubleshooter a few times. The only remaining option seems to be to reinstall Windows but that removes all your apps and programs, including the licensed ones, which isn't an attractive idea. Any advice gratefully received.
  5. If you're not in a position to buy coffees, food etc you might prefer upstairs at the library.
  6. I had 'what does your father do' several times; recruitment agencies used to include it in their registration form, sometimes including his address. I had one interview which focused mainly on my experience of the school I went to as the interviewer was hoping to send their daughter there. Interviews didn't always prepare you for the reality of the company culture, like the one where strippergrams where a regular feature. You'd be working at your desk as a large, naked woman went past and the men started roaring. If you didn't look like you enjoyed it you risked being criticised for not fitting in or having no sense of humour.
  7. *selects dart, inserts into tranquiliser gun and releases safety catch*
  8. Don't fall for the cheap fat block in Sainsbury's, the birds in my garden turn their beaks up at it.
  9. Stick a post in the For Sale section offering them free. There's sure to be someone local who needs them.
  10. James Barber Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi Robert Post'es Child, > Will chase and come back to you. Thanks. Looks like it has now been sorted, for this time at least. I think the problem may be that since they recently turned one of the loos into a key-operated disabled one, there is too much pressure on the other two. If it keeps happening, turning them into 3 unisex loos would probably help. Thanks again.
  11. I saw ACDC live at Hammersmith the year before, supported by Def Leppard. A friend's mother had tickets and took us. Bit of a shock to a country girl from a deep-freeze boarding school.
  12. From the Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/oct/04/yemen-famine-feared-as-starving-children-fight-for-lives-in-hospital
  13. Hi James I wondered if you're able to help the library sort out their loo problem? All three were out of order for what seemed like two weeks while they waited for a specialist to sort them out, then working again yesterday and all three again out of order today. When I ask the staff they don't seem to know much about how long it's going to take. They've been telling people to use the pub but it's creating problems for the elderly, parents with young children etc and not really appropriate for the older, unaccompanied school-age kids who use the reference part of the library to study in. Getting things fixed at the library can be frustratingly slow - with the old wifi it often took weeks - so it would be great if you're able to help shift the blockage (as it were). Thanks.
  14. Sounds very sensible. As a woman below average height who lives alone I've got into the habit of being defensive about my safety. London is a way safer place to walk around in than it was thirty or so years ago but somehow I never lost the habit.
  15. Hate to say it and it's not my intention to offend, but you can protect yourself to a great extent by not walking along using your phone as they can't see it and you're more likely to see them and have time to give them the evil eye. Same with jewellery. Stations are always a hotspot so at least don't take the phone out till you're well clear. Hope they're caught or fall off and put themselves out of action.
  16. Maybe they've been moved on from the playing fields on the S Circ near the Old Alleynians RC ground as some facilities had to be closed last week.
  17. Maybe stick to one thread? Avoids the impression of desperation.
  18. There's been a helicopter circling over what looks like ED/ND/DH for quite a while now. Anyone know the cause? Can't see any local incidents online.
  19. Not private, but according to SELDOC you could try a walk-in centre: http://www.seldoc.co.uk/node/146 Or find another GP surgery to register with? I can generally get an appointment on the day or within a day or two, and they're very good about fitting in children.
  20. Maybe focus on one place as far as possible? Brockwell Park would be good as it has such a lot of different locations within it, not least south London's answer to the view from Primrose Hill.
  21. It'll be a long time before there's a high enough guaranteed footfall to attract Pret. When a company I worked for moved to a new flagship office with space for a restaurant on the ground floor, Pret turned them down.
  22. If you and Mr L go to Franco Manca after this, they could be forgiven for asking you to leave...
  23. Maybe enough people have left to make a difference or the NHS has put pressure on them to improve. I left about four years ago and am very happy with the service I get now.
