  1. To put it another way, I thought he was lazy. Whatever you may say about Boris I don't think that's true of him. May I think has a strong sense of duty, so a very different kind of mindset.
  2. A commentator, can't remember who now, said Cameron's weakness is he's tactical rather than strategic, doing just enough to get him through to next Tuesday. Bang on the money I thought.
  3. What a lovely 'cast your bread upon the waters' story!

Completely. To me he never seemed to realise that it wasn't just an extension of being in the school debating society or the extent to which many people's lives became more difficult on his watch. I also felt he wasn't in it for the right reasons (who is, some might say) but with his eye on a peerage and a series of well-paid board memberships.
  5. Thank you. Sounds like you've been here a long time so you might find the old thread that Bic Basher mentioned brings back memories.
  6. Choosy burglar?
  7. At an interview for a freelance job some years ago the person I saw foolishly told me their maximum budget before asking how much I wanted. 'That much, please, plus expenses.' Never earned as much since but it was lovely at the time.
  8. What about shops? Degenerate incomers too lazy to hunt, gather and farm for themselves.
  9. That would be really interesting, especially if you have stories about any of the people who ran them too. How about starting at the Goose Green end and listing the ones you remember?
  10. Definitely not 21st Century as around long before that. I should think most people only buy it in by the bag if they're having a party. Especially around here where they probably like to use filtered or bottled water for ice cubes.
  11. Sue, I looked at a lot of different laptops recently before buying and noticed there did seem to be a trend, but they weren't all like that. My last work laptop was also like that and it made PowerPoint practically impossible.
  12. Don't worry, Alice, when the OP moves to phase 2 of the campaign and starts to trail 'an exciting new coffee house' in the parade close to ED station, you'll have another to choose from.
  13. A few years back I did my tax return, psyching myself up for a bill of a few thousand, then got a 10k rebate. I had been out of work for a while at that point and the relief was unbelievable.
  14. Recently I took half a dozen lottery tickets to be checked and won ?25 plus two free lucky dips. Seemed an unusually good haul. I also remembered I had nearly 200 Singapore dollars lying around and due to Brexit effect I got back quite a bit more than I paid, plus enough cash not to need to cashpoint for a couple of weeks.
  15. Since then Peckham has completed its arrival, Forest Hill is now something first-time buyers can only dream of and I'm told Deptford is pretty happening now. Haven't been to see for myself, obviously. I would say that the South Bank is now no longer worth visiting unless you love crowds and eating overpriced food standing up.
  16. Don't think so, you can use any in Southwark once you have the card.
  17. I feel action is required. I suggest a group of male forumites drag up, infiltrate and report back. Thinkig a Some Like It Hot kind of scenario.
  18. Oh no! Another, or possibly the same, guru appealing to the narcissism masquerading as quest for enlightenment of the local mummytariat. In South-East London a gong is never a good sign. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?6,1724877
  19. I would be direct about it. No need to be angry or aggressive, just an adult conversation where you politely say something like, 'I do wish you wouldn't talk about me behind my back. Someone always repeats it back to me in the end you know.'
  20. The last page of the site didn't complete fully, without my realising, and I only found out when I went in to DLC. However, the rest of my application had saved itself OK and the girl on reception kindly offered to finish it off for me when I went in last week. Worth a try?
  21. And, as all French & Saunders fans know, you can't train cats.
  22. Did she ever use a pressure cooker (de rigueur in the 70s)? I remember sprouts came out khaki and interestingly flattened.
  23. Lucky I don't have small children as my brain's now so fluffy that could actually happen.
  24. The colour on the box said natural blonde; the end result is mid-brown, but now with added damage. No idea how this happens. It worked just fine a few weeks ago. Now all the make-up's the wrong colour. Aargh.
