  1. There have often been quite negative comments about the one in Melbourne Grove too, but DMC is appallingly stressful to deal with. The one in the Gardens isn't far from you and people seem happy with it.

  3. It may depend on where you live as they will have different catchment areas but there are quite a number of previous threads that you may find helpful. The bottom line is usually anywhere except DMC!

I was responding to your own point about being on a budget, which for most people (me included - never been to anywhere expensive locally as it happens) implies controlling discretionary spending. If you read my earlier post you'll see I have no problem with people choosing to eat at Subway if they like that kind of thing.
  5. When you're on a budget, making a sandwich at home is even better value...
  6. Their shops do have a very distinctive junk-food smell to them, you can always tell when you've walked past one, bit like McDonald's.
  7. Can't say the thought excites me but ED, like a lot of gentrified London, has become a place of two parallel lifestyles and there are plenty of people who will probably find it more to their liking and their pocket than W Rose, Moxon's or Franklins.
  8. They're definitely not all the same! DMC was dreadful but my current one is exactly what you'd want a surgery to be.
  9. Crumble sounds nice, maybe with blackberries, and as you have a lot you could part-cook and freeze some. Or how about making some pear chutney?
  10. How about local parks? Lots of variety to choose from there.
  11. It would be lovely to be in a position to retire but right now I don't see how I ever will be. Finding it difficult to get work due to being at the senior end of the spectrum and therefore perceived as both old and expensive. Looking for an alternative as need to keep some money coming in but not sure what I'm good for. May have to move out of London as rents here will soon eat up my savings. Think it's fair to say that no political party is interested in people like me... Sorry if that sounds grim. Am also on diet so not allowed to eat anything that might cheer me up.
  12. I do blend, partly because I'm too lazy to chop things evenly or time it properly, but mainly because I like really thick soup that I can then add other things to, like bacon or beans.
  13. The last couple of weeks the robins around here seem to have become more active again, or perhaps just more visible as the summer birds leave. A robin singing in a tree is a huge joy.
  14. A canoodle with with a passing friendly dog in the park. (Edited to correct autocorrect.)
  15. Sounds lovely. Last night I did broccoli and potato soup, which was delicious. Making carrot and parsnip later.
  16. Smoke-infused Christmas cake! Sounds almost like a trip back in time.
  17. The phrase 'head transplant' is enough to turn my stomach, to be honest, never mind Gogglebox and the White Russians.
  18. Perhaps you could talk to Pecan to see if they'd like them for their foodbank? http://www.pecan.org.uk/
  19. How's the head?
  20. Does anyone really like mince pies? Those, Christmas cake and Christmas pudding seem to be made mainly from compost.
  21. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's dog. It must have been a horrifying experience for everyone involved. I think there have been other incidents in recent years that people have mentioned in this forum, and I wondered if you were planning to let the police know in case this isn't an accident?
  22. I assumed the latter but you could be right. Judging by past posts it seems unlikely 17 is an age reference, though, not unless he's an economics prodigy.
  23. He's posted before and sounded local. Quite intriguing.
  24. I walked past Meat Liquor mid-afternoon and it does see a slightly funny arrangement. I felt quite sorry for the guy sitting in the window, no glass between him and the people walking past a foot or two away or to protect him from the traffic fumes, the sun full in his somewhat red and sweaty face. Didn't look much fun to be honest.
  25. Apparently men have a manopause now. And so the world moves on...
