  1. For a bit of respite during the day, go for a stroll round an M&S foodhall. It's like Narnia before the return of Aslan in there.
  2. I live on the ground floor and on hot nights I dab Vick or China oil (peppermint oil; tiger balm would also work) on my temples, neck or top of the head. The menthol is volatile and creates the sensation of cold. Not suitable for small children though as if it gets it in their eyes it stings. A friend swears by soaking a small cloth in cold water and draping it over part of the body, but I find it a bit of a faff. Bowls of water close to the bed might help if you can get a breeze going, either a window or fan.
  3. Thanks. I am (mentioned in the thread).

  6. You might find it easiest to ask Admin (see dedicated thread in About this Forum section) or you could click on the Report this Post link and explain the problem to them that way.
  7. I wondered why my thread on dangerous Deliveroo bikes in ED was lounged? I did focus specifically on what's going on in this area rather than on the company so it seemed appropriate to me.
  8. Have a look at this discussion on another forum, which helps to explain the difference between permanently parked mobile homes (holiday homes that people live in all year round) and park homes on residential sites (our equivalent of US trailer parks) which could be an option for you. http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1484721 It would be good if you could delete your other thread as it's a bit confusing to have two on the same topic.
  9. Not sure why this was lounged as it's about how the bikes are operating specifically in this area.
  10. Answered my own question by going along for a swim. What they didn't tell me over the phone is that you have to register online in advance for the free swimming, but the receptionist kindly let me in anyway, which was nice of her. In case anyone else, like me, had been put off by the various issues under the old management, my impression is that overall the standard is much better. The water is clean and has the texture of water (before it was soupy, slightly viscous and with too many visible bits floating in it) and the smell of chlorine was less noticeable (I used to be able to smell it on my skin even after showering), though they told me the filter system is the same as before, so perhaps just my imagination. The d?cor is generally brighter and cleaner-looking. In particular, it looks as though the women's changing room walls were retiled, which makes a big difference. Its floor, while not as dirty as in the bad old days, still looked in need of a good clean and it was hard to put your foot down anywhere without it picking up dirt or hair, though to be fair it was the end of the day so perhaps the cleaner was just waiting for everyone to leave. The showers all had doors (in the past there always seemed to be some missing) though the temperature control on the two I used didn't seem to be properly attached. Still got the annoying couple who insist on swimming side by side in the slow lane, though. Anyway, a big improvement and worth a visit, particularly all day Fri and after 2pm on Sat and Sun when it's FREE.
  11. This is a plea to Deliveroo: please make sure your delivery guys are safer on the roads. It?s only a matter of time before someone in this area is badly hurt or worse - and I make no apology for including in that the potentially life-changing impact it could have on anyone else involved. A couple of days ago I posted about a Deliveroo guy cycling dangerously through a junction when the light was on red, after dark, with insufficient lights, the box slung across his back rather than properly secured, no helmet or reflective clothing, and while apparently having a video call on his mobile, which he held out to the side, turning sideways to look at the screen he held outstretched so the other person could see him. [previous post: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,251917,page=145] This evening, again after dark, I passed another going down Woodwarde Road, a rather patchily lit road. I noticed that the delivery box (this time carried more securely on the bike's rack) was dark grey or black and, despite being the widest point of his bike, with no reflective material and, as he was on the dark side of the road, almost impossible to see except up close. His lights were tiny and hard to see at any distance. Five minutes later, just after I turned down LL by the library, I heard a crash just behind me. Another Deliveroo rider had been knocked down by a car going through the junction, on the Lloyds corner where it?s less well lit. The clearly concerned driver stopped immediately and the cyclist was OK (I stopped to check) - though the front wheel of the bike was slightly bent. I don?t want to speculate on who was at fault as I didn?t see what happened, and the important thing is he was OK. Thank goodness, he was wearing a helmet though apart from that just shorts and t-shirt. However, I couldn?t help noticing that once again the box, the widest point of the load, was black or dark grey, with no reflective material, and the bike?s lights were tiny. Half an hour or so later, as I came back up Crystal Palace Road, where lighting is again patchy and some parts fairly dark, I passed another Deliveroo bike going downhill. Same issue with the box and lights, no helmet or reflective clothing, and this time with both hands off the handlebars while apparently texting on his phone. I was also passed by a Deliveroo moped, which had better lights but the same issue with the box. Deliveroo, I?m sure you care about your employees and that you don?t need me to tell you you have a responsibility to make sure they?re safe and not putting themselves - or anyone else - at risk by the way they go about their work. Maybe you already have standards for this kind of thing and aren't aware they're not being followed in this area. Based on the last couple of days I think the following changes would make a big difference: 1. Delivery boxes could be white with big reflective strips so the size is clearly visible in all conditions (branding opportunity!) and always secured on a bike rack. Ideally it should go on the front rather than the back as that way the cyclist would find it easier to judge the width they need to allow. 2. Give cyclists helmets and reflective clothing (another branding opportunity!) 3. Make sure they have decent lights. 4. Make cycling responsibly a part of your way of working (HOW you deliver as well as what and how fast). Please let?s not wait until someone is seriously hurt. I may also send this to your company by email. (If any local journo is having a quiet day, please feel free to pick up on this. To anyone else who read this far, sorry for the long post.) 12. Please do take Loz's advice, especially now you're staying - otherwise it could happen again and both your landlord and your upstairs neighbour need to know they can't victimise you.
  13. Has anyone used the Dulwich LC recently? Would like to find out if cleanliness and water quality have improved as they were what put me off using it under Fusion's management.
  14. Not sure which of the two is worse. The guy on the bike was laughing and holding his arm outstretched to the side, presumably to give the other person a better view of him. Maybe it's time for bikes to have number plates.
  15. More a cause for concern than rage: unsafe Deliveroo cyclists. Tonight I even saw one go through the Calton Ave/DV junction, traffic lights on red, no front light, barely visible rear light, huge delivery box slung across his back rather than secured properly to the bike, WHILE HOLDING A VIDEO CALL ON HIS PHONE, earplugs in, repeatedly turning sideways to look at the screen. Accident waiting to happen.
  16. Social media has a lot to answer for.
  17. The 'should I blog' thread makes me feel slightly sick. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,1714200
  18. I don't have a legal background but their behaviour sounds fraudulent. Would it be worth one final attempt, in the form of a letter, sent recorded delivery and headed 'without prejudice', stating that unless they settle your invoice within fourteen days you consider they are in breach of copyright and will take further action? I completely sympathise with how you feel, but if the letter fails, perhaps best for your sanity to remind yourself what an hour of your time is worth and devote your efforts to recouping the loss via a more reliable customer.
  19. Looking around me, I find it hard to believe that 46% of men are physically active, if by that you mean doing at least the current recommended minimum of 30 minutes of moderate exercise at least five times a week. More info, as suggested above, would be helpful. Also, what is Sport London?
  20. 'Most favorited', caught unawares in a marketing email from AirBnB.
  21. Phlox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > FYI, I found almond milk at Aldi for 99pence, lots > cheaper than other supermarkets. How much does it > cost to make it yourself? Depends how much the almonds cost, but most people who make their own do it in order to have it fresh, full of natural enzymes and not treated to emulsify or preserve it, so it's not really about the cost. It also gives you almond pulp that you can use to make energy balls or brownies.
  22. You could do a few circuits of Peckham Rye without the need for closing any roads.
  23. Cheer up, we're just old and past it. I haven't been since the late 80s, back when the headlines were about run-ins with the police and the number of fatal stabbings. These days I can't stand the noise or the long walk home from somewhere you don't recognise. Doesn't stop you and everyone else enjoying it, though.
  24. Sounds like the night before was an excellent one, Lady N.
  25. You can also prepare your muslin (AJ Farmer's usually has the baby version though they may also have jelly bags) by putting it in the freezer overnight. I do that when making almond milk.
