  1. Or maybe this? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6072141/Police-catch-suspected-moped-muggers-dramatic-five-mile-chase-London.html
  2. Oh no, what sad news. She sounded so happy in her last post and was obviously enjoying life in Shropshire, working hard to build her business. How tragic that so much hope, joy and determination has been cut short. Feel for her family.
  3. My stomach actually heaved just reading that.
  4. This seems really odd. Can't remember ever seeing a similar situation on the forum. It does seem like Admin has seriously overstepped the mark in this. I can understand Sue being worries that this makes her identifible by the store so it could be straying into tricky territory with GDPR perhaps.
  5. Hooray! Suddenly life has more meaning. On that basis my hobbies must be swearing and chocolate.

After seeing the price I felt a bit faint myself!
  7. Sue, I just googled: tell me you didn't pay ?50 for a room diffuser...
  8. You do realise this isn't the Citizens Advice Bureau, Niall? ETA this post made sense before Niall's post was deleted.
  9. It sounds like it wasn't honestly represented and/or the ingredient list was incomplete. The way they held off answering suggests they know that. There does seem to be a loophole around that kind of thing though: look at all the beauty products, particularly hair serums, that are branded as 'Argan oil' but when you look closely the first four ingredients are silicones and there's less than 5% argan. On a similar note, I avoid clothes labelled 'cotton-rich' or 'wool-rich' as it means that's not the main thing it's made of.
  10. See a play? On Thursday there's usually a matinee as well as an evening performance so you could do that before dinner. Or have afternoon tea in the Parlour at Fortnum & Mason. Gorgeous ice cream and much cheaper than posh tea on the top floor. If the weather's good you could take the Thames Clipper to Greenwich and time the return journey for sunset. Or have tea in the big atrium thing at the Royal Opera House. Or hire Boris bikes and cycle around the City. Or walk around the Inns of Court. Or spend an hour or two walking around Spitalfields Market looking at the stalls and having something to eat from the food stalls. All lovely.

  12. If that's true I'm not sure whether to blame Heston Blumenthal or Harry Potter.
  13. Do you drink craft beer, 3rah? That counts.
  14. Not being funny but have you thought about getting or borrowing a dog? There are probably lots of people locally who'd be happy to have someone give their dog a nice long walk in the evening.
  15. Land Registry search? Smallish fee involved though.
  16. How might you go about having the conversation with a local business that you value and would like to keep using? There's obviously a risk they might tell you never to darken their doors again.
  17. edcam Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Get a new lodger who is willing to be your unpaid > slave. Seems pretty uncalled for, edcam. She's already made clear it's because the lodger isn't clearing up after themselves in the bathroom.
  18. I wasn't aware of that change so thanks for highlighting it. In the last few months I've been charged a fee twice by a local hairdresser and I had to use a debit card at the (also local) dentist as they charge a fee for using credit cards.
  19. Thank goodness for the rain; put a stop to barbecues and outdoor parties where I am. I know that sounds miserable but I haven't been able to use my garden or have the windows open at weekends for what seems like the whole summer.
  20. In the past James Barber was very helpful in getting Dulwich Leisure Centre to improve their standard of cleanliness in the women's wet side changing rooms after months of filth and litter. In the last few weeks it has slipped back again, pretty disgusting at times in fact (I swim two or three times a week) and when I bring it to the management's attention the excuses are sounding familiar. Can you do anything to get them to sort it out? To be fair, some of this is obviously due to people who use the facilities and don't think or don't care. There was a large notice on the door about the high number of pool closures recently due to children being sick and worse in the water, so not surprising the changing rooms reflect that.
  21. I like men in smart shorts with a tailored shirt or perhaps a non-slogan polo shirt. It's normal hot weather smart-casual attire in some European countries and a lot of Americans seem to do it. Bet Obama looks good in smart shorts. Perhaps not so good on a stockier figure (same as women). Footwear for work would be plain loafers or deck shoes, no sock. If not for work, maybe an espadrille or sandal. Definitely not trainers or a formal shoe like a brogue. ETA: after that I looked at pics online - hilarious! The fashion ones are mostly too short; nicer just above the knee or on the knee for a stockier build. Don't fall for the short blazer with tennis shoes look unless you aspire to be on Towie or A N Other wannabe celeb thing.
  22. I know you're right that people would abuse the system. I just wish it was possible to make things more flexible and inclusive in that way.
  23. I know a lot of disabilities are invisible, thanks - mine too in fact - but it doesn't give you the right to assault someone by driving your car into them, albeit slowly, to push them out of your way. She could have used any of the other empty disabled bays, or used her horn, gestured, wound the window down and spoken. She didn't choose to do that. And she ran faster than I could.
