It was fascinating to hear that they sedated all the boys and strapped each to a diver to get them out. It makes perfect sense. Also something pleasingly Harry Potter to it.

How dramatic.

Somewhere out there I bet people are already scrambling for the film rights. Now the kids are out and safe I hope the local officials think about this so that some money comes back to the area and all those involved (including the poor family of the diver who lost his life - surely a reminder of how very dangerous the situation was) in case they need more support in the future as PTSD can take a while to come out.

Advice RE stolen goods / burglary / find my iPhone

I'm sorry to rant but it absolutely incenses me that you've reported the crime, you've tracked your stuff to a precise location, you've told the police - and they still won't take any action We don't pay them to issue crime numbers for insurance companies! Hassle them, go on the Met and Mayor's social media feeds, email your local councillor, ask your MP to raise a question in Parliament about efficient use of police resources / cutting crime and/or contact the Standard or DM. If the police won't police, how much longer will it be till people go back to the traditional method of going to the pub to hire some muscle and paying the lowlifes a visit? -
How are you keeping cool in the ED heat?
Robert Poste's Child replied to trinidad's topic in The Lounge
I'm not either; daytime, anyway. Envious of everyone with small boobs - a structured bra really bites into the skin in this weather. -
News just said he's resigned.

I first got asthma in my early 20s. I don't bother with a machine but just keep the windows shut at night (my flat's ground floor anyway) or pull down the blind as that catches most of it. Recently I've also started using a bedspread instead of leaving the duvet pulled back to air all day like I used to, and that seems to make a difference.

While doing some housework yesterday there were several longish, coarse red animal hairs stuck to the bottom of a chest of drawers where something had rubbed itself. Suspicious.

Where round here is air-conditioned?
Robert Poste's Child replied to d.b's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
My neighbour (since moved) put a mobile airco unit in their bedroom and directed the exhaust pipe bit out of the window closest to me, just a couple of feet from my own bedroom window, meaning it was pushing noise and heat (making cold air produces hot as a by-product) at me and another neighbour all night. Obviously they didn't care but if you value good relations with your neighbours you might want to think that through. They're also expensive to buy and run, and not eco-friendly. Not keen on them personally. -
Best food for this weather?

Strawberries and raspberries are good at the moment. Anything with peppers and tomatoes: pepperonata, caponata, ratatouille. -

The Horniman Museum gardens are always good for a breeze, or you could go to Dulwich Woods. I spent this evening sitting in a patch of shade in Dulwich Park and even that was pleasant. Sainsbury's DKH is cool and you can sit in Starbucks. Or just fill the bath with cold water and lie in it. Sounds silly but I sometimes do that if it's a really hot summer. If your bath's big enough you can invite your partner to join you, light some candles and share a bottle of wine. You can create the sensation of being cool in other ways too - I'm sure people will add their tips here as this subject always comes up at this time of year, particularly when the nights are warm. I dab on peppermint oil or Vick, both of which make you feel cool, and right now I have a cold hot water bottle in bed that has been in the fridge all day. Don't go on a routemaster, whatever you do. -
As I cycled past the velodrome gate just now a gold-coloured car with a racing bike on the roof pulled out of the entrance in front of me. I tend to take it for granted that cyclists are aware and actively against pollution so I was rather shocked to get a faceful of black exhaust every time the driver used the accelerator. Not impressed.

You're so right. All week I've been noticing parents on the school run, delivery drivers and builders around here during the day doing that. Today no doubt the air will soon be filled with the smell of burning chemicals, followed by burning grease. I know it makes me sound like a killjoy but I wish people'd thin about the pollution and all the people around them who then have to keep their windows shut / can't sit in their own garden or put their washing out / have to leave that part of the park etc.

For me it's the double caramel and sometimes the new praline one, though the normal almond milk chocolate is good too. Hoping the offer ends soon as that'll help me say no. -
Wise words, ruffers. Like that episode of Friends where Phoebe and Rachel draw lots for Ross and Joey as their respective safety nets, then swap.

Surely it has to be Greek, Cypriot and Turkish food? Beautifully stuffed vegetables with a hint of mint, grilled meat on the bone, thin-skinned tomatoes, flat bread, olives and grapes. If I wasn't so lazy I'd bike down to the Cypriot deli near Goose Green right now. Making do with some onion breadsticks and black grapes from Lidl. I had porridge for breakfast yesterday. Serious error of judgement.

It depends on what's most important to you personally, but based on what you've said I'd go for ED. The purpose-built one should be more efficient to run, which might save you a bit of money in bills over time. It should also have better sound insulation. ED is zone 2 and HOP zone 3. As you'd never been to HOP before it sounds like you don't socialise in that area, so in ED you might save on travel expenses too. When you're spending money on building work and have to rein in your social life there's plenty of free and low-cost stuff on the doorstep here, plus several lovely parks. Not sure if you're male or female but, given your age, would it be worth thinking about how both might work a couple of years down the line if you were there with a partner and a baby? A top floor flat with a baby in one arm and shopping in the other is very tiring, though the potential to extend might come into its own then.

I'm not into football but cycling up CPR at about 9.45pm yesterday was hilarious: Actress - cheers and singing, Exhibition - groans then silence, Castle - cheers and a guy outside hopping from one leg to the other saying 'I can't watch', Plough - cheers and people running about. Roads all to myself.

How about an on-the-spot fine for anyone who takes their dog for a walk on pavement tarmac or concrete or put them in a car when the temperature's over 22 degrees? Due to the way dogs regulate their body heat it's horribly cruel and can even kill.

Wish I could afford JAGS. DLC's pool and women's changing room seemed as dirty as ever tonight - you literally couldn't put a foot on the the floor without picking up dirt, hair and other matter.

Sign up for an acting class at City Lit. It's the best therapy there is (not suggesting you need therapy, but you know what I mean). Join borrowmydoggy.com and find a cute fluffster to take for an occasional walk or snuggle up with on the sofa. Try a new hair colour? (I just did and it definitely changed my perspective.) Find someone to play tennis with in the park or try a boxing class (hitting something is a great way of unblocking things if you're feeling stuck). Failing that, Magnums are ?2 for 3 at Sainsbury's.

ED Nature Watch
Robert Poste's Child replied to Peckhamgatecrasher's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A few evenings ago I cycled past a fox with something large, grey and very fluffy in its jaws, two back legs trailing limply, with a second fox trying to steal whatever it was. Couldn't see what it was but assume a large rat or squirrel. Don't mean to sound bloodthirsty but it was nice to see evidence of foxes taking vermin rather than emptying bins. -
