  1. Well he was investigated and I assume that this was because the police identified him as a suspect . Whether they " identified " him by an image or some other means ,I wouldn't know .
  2. Damian - yes ,mistakes do get made . Another student ,studying in Cambridge ,was also arrested ,interviewed etc for the fire extinguisher incident at Millbank . But as a different person has now been charged and appeared in court I guess this was an error .
  3. Chocoholic - I use clear plastic bags for my tins and plastics . Tesco's sell them .I always buy mine from Surrey Quays Tesco's ,not sure if smaller Tesco's do them . Now I think of it Asda do clear bags as well - but the Tesco's ones fit the crate I have in my kitchen !
  4. Thinking of you and sending good contraction vibrations .
  5. I'm not going away, every time you say it I'll remind you how stupid it is Why bother Huguenot ,why not agree to disagree ?
  6. Sorry for you and your dad . Agree with others about taking him outside in wheelchair and also about help with his vision ,so that he can access laptop ,talking books and so on . The RNIB do a service where you subscribe annually and get a machine ( which crucially is easy to use if you have poor sight ) and talking books . They also have lights and stuff - maybe take Keef up on his offer ,or St Thomas's are having an open day ( 11 - 2 pm I think ) this ,27th ,Sat where they'll have low vision aids etc to try out . I hope he improves enough to come out of hospital and have more access to a normal/more interesting life . Good luck .
  7. There was a picture of a woman displayed in Celestial recently . Can someone who actually saw the picture describe what the woman in it was doing ? I did see it and as far as I could tell it just showed a picture of a woman standing next to a rack of clothes . Underneath the picture it said " This woman is a shoplifter " Maybe I missed some important detail - were there tag cutters in her hand or something ? And puzzled - do you know for certain that the shopowner had discussed this action with the police and that they had approved it ?
  8. Tibby I'm so sorry that this awful thing has happened to you and that now Huguenot has added to your distress . Please try and ignore him ,IME his main interest in posting is to appear clever . And IMO that is not always an appropriate response, it puts people off from posting on this forum ,which I think is a shame . If his posts cause distress ( and I can sense his clever reply which will include a dissertation on the meaning of the word distress and the fact that you said you were furious )he really doesn't care ,he'll just carry on . He'll write some nasty response to this ,completely missing the point and I shall ignore it . If you can ,I'd recommend that you ignore him as well .
  9. sounds obvious I know ,but you have tried the bus company haven't you ? Son left school work on bus once and we got it back from bus garage at end of route . Sorry for you and daughter !
  10. Mickmac - I'm decrepit and have worn varifocals for several years . I did not find them diffucult to get used to - top tip was to start off as if you were looking down your nose . But ....you get what you pay for ,if you go for the cheaper varifocals you will find that there is distortion at the edge of your vision which is very off putting . My partner ,being a cheapskate ( whereas I'm a cost per wear person ),went for a cheap pair and then found it impossible to get on with them .
  11. Poor Fuschia ,how awful .Hope little one is improving . With Forset Hill Rd ,you have to be careful which GP you see .... some are less helpful/thorough than others .
  12. Also ,just to add ,in case your parents haven't already done so - it mught be possible for one or both of them to claim Attendance Allowance .
  13. Compeed are seriously brilliant . Helps to read instructions tho . ( best if you warm them in your hands first )
  14. Can anyone clarify /give some background about the sports centre ? Did its existence predate the school becoming an Academy ? Was it used by general public before school became an Academy ?
  15. I wonder how Harris were loosing money when the facilities were managed by Fusion ? Were they paying Fusion to manage it and not getting enough return to cover the management fee ? But surely Lord Harris would have enough business acumen not to have entered into an arrangement that looked like a loss maker ? ( or whatever the correct term is ). And I really wonder what terms/conditions went with the sports facilities when Harris were given the lease to the school . Are the sports facilities integral to the school or a seperate building ? I guess it wouldn't have been feasible for Southwark to have retained the facilities ,letting them out for school and public use .
  16. Fusion managed the facilities for a while after it became an Academy though , I wonder why that arrangement changed ? Wonder what Harris put in their expression of interest when they were going through the process of becoming an Academy . They normally refer to intent to be part of community etc ,might see if I can track it down on line .
  17. aah ,the swimming pool. Yes ,mamy moons ago I was one of those people who helped raise funds . Remember ,not quite so many moons ago ,helping with local primary schools swimming classes there . Does anyone know why management of sports facilities pass from Fusion to Harris in first place ?
  18. Lyons , I've not seen the article , could you explain a little more ? Won't the management pass back to Fusion ? Will the general public no longer have access ? With regard to Lord Harris being a prominent philanthropist ....it does sometimes seem to me that the public view is that he pays for schools to be built/refurbished ,when actually he contributes a tiny percentage of money towards the capital cost of the building . For someone like Lord Harris with more than 3 Academies the contribution would be ?1.5 million for a new Academy .The total cost of building a new Academy is in the region of ?35 million. Parliamentary questions reported last year in the press revealed that of the ?8.5 million pledged by Harris for his first 7 Academies ,only ?3.7 m had been received.
  19. Thanks AlexC - brilliant ,have signed up .
  20. I can't see anything on the Guardian site that mentions delivery . Have I missed something ?
  21. guessing ( from fact that "r " and "o " are immediately next to "t " and " i " on keyboard ) that someromes is a typo for sometimes .
  22. No speed humps at the top end by the Plough or anywhere else on Barry Rd .
  23. Aaah - knew I'd seen a map somewhere ,page 13 on this Southwark Road Safety Plan . http://www.southwark.gov.uk/downloads/download/293/road_safety_plan The image isn't clear enough on line for me to make much sense of it ,but maybe someone more skilled will have better luck .
  24. I rather regret starting this post ,I'd just seen the accident and in rather a knee jerk reaction wanted to " share " . Because I use Barry Rd a great deal posts about it attract my attention . But I wonder what the statistics actually show . This has probably been posted somewhere else on here - maybe JB's thread - but can anyone post a link to to one of those maps that shows numbers of accidents in the borough ?
  25. car has mounted pavement and hit railings near pedestrian crossing .Looks like it was travelling east west direction .
