  1. In Sheffield Ranmoor the returning officer decided that residents shoild vote before students who were told to form a second line . Students queued for over 2 hours and were still unable to vote . That's not people being "silly cows"
  2. Thanks Shine ,that seems a good soloution . PS Car wash in Tyrell Rd is very good .
  3. Dulwich Village Infants is the only school I can think of that has ever had a catchment area - parish boundary - though of course living within it is only one criteria and wouldn't guarantee you a place . Southwark community primary schools have never had catchment areas - its always been a question of supply and demand determing how close you need to live in order to get a place .
  4. Are children at local primary schools taking these ? Or are headteachers joining the boycott ?
  5. Couldn't you give it a good wash ,dilute bleach ? rinse really well ? Come on some one - there has to be a spare cage somewhere in ED .
  6. Um ,well - I have a cat carrying box . Wonder if that would do ? It's metal ,solid floor ,rest of it has bars .. Guess would need a wash ,not dirty but would the parrot smell cat ? PM me if you think might help. It's like these ,but with a flat top ,not domed. http://www.gardencentre.co.uk/product.asp?id=18826&sr=wg&ad=18826
  7. Peckham Rose - so sorry to hear about your ankle . You're not having a good time are you ,it's not long since the dreaded Norovirus laid you low ( twice !) Hope you're better soon . Sorry ,off topic .
  8. Well done you ! No cage to offer ,but maybe try large cardboard box - might be used to being in a cage and covered at night ? I'm sure owner will be distraught and looking for pet . Wish I could be more help . ( or any help ! ) Good luck.
  9. Oh I agree - too many ,too many ,too many ,too many . See what I mean - you just stop reading after a certain point .
  10. Mickmac- so that's what I did wrong last year ! Bugger ,bugger, bugger . It was a long back breaking job getting the soil right ,and then i didn't level it !
  11. Hi sophie ,what I really meant ( unclear ,sorry ) was not what to do with shredded paper but whether Southwark had organised some kind of sleuthing into say housing benefit fraud by looking through peoples' documents that they've put out for recicling . If that makes sense ,not sure it does now I've posted it !
  12. James - see this http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,448566,457118#msg-457118 re people who look official rifling through recyling waste paper in early hours of morning . Can you discover if this is a Southwark council led iniative ?
  13. bobski's right - put on hi vis jackets and you get away with anything Let's hope the police take initial report seriously . Love idea of weekly bonfire on Goose Green ,bit of ging gang goolie goolie watcha ,few organic burgers ...
  14. Rambo - didn't mean to offend ,apologies if I have . Intention was to balance the picture given which people may have thought was universally applicable .
  15. Things vary according to where you live ( politics ) but here in Southwark I help care for a lady in her 90's who lives alone with no mobility etc . She has not had to sell the family home and makes a nominal contribution towards the 10 carers provided by social services who call every day .
  16. Cafes in local busy parks where they decide to close half the seating ( the half not overheated by the sun ) an hour before closing time so that they can clean it and get away quickly . And a sign ,half an hour before closing time saying " Take away only ". Pesky customers shouldn't be allowed to impede the leisure time of staff .
  17. They do it everywhere . Thought it was just us old people who couldn't cope with it . I always personally thank anyone who hands me the coins first .
  18. Yes ,sorry ,another vote for it's worse . Called in earlyish ( before 9 ) and could hardly move for blocked aisles that were being restocked. Have never seen it so bad . Loads of empty shelves . Plus Lordship Lane gridlocked on Sat am ( early ) by delivery lorries .
  19. Ban on flights extended until 19.00 Mon . http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article7101380.ece
  20. We saw a cockatiel flying in our backgarden today - land between Friern and Barry Rd gardens. Poor thing .
  21. Agree ,what a bummer ! Surely someone mistook it for unwanted goods .But I guess you need to be careful about advertising the fact that your security has been comprimised by loosing a back door ?
  22. Take heart Artful - I have cycled the Vauxhall Cross route to Pimlico and didn't find it too bad . I thought it was a bit stop and start ,as Lady muck suggests ,but perfectly doable . And I'm not very experienced . ( I found Camberwell New Rd the worst bit and used various routes to avoid as much of it as I could .)
  23. How are other London boroughs - surely in same position - managing without postponing date ?
  24. Probably not much help - it is hell I know - but when I had to get up yet again and go to my one I always used to summon a picture of him happy and smiling and hold it in my mind before I opened the door . It helped me a bit.
  25. Could you explain /give a bit more detail about how the bicycle pool ,school thing will work ?
