Good cycle route into town
intexasatthe moment replied to busymum's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Camberwell New Rd - wide bus lanes ,quiet ,fair bit of room for cyclists ? Honestly ? That's not my impression - but perhaps I'm a wuss ! -
Crikey LM ,what a star . Can't add anything to above ,yes you should go and say good bye . You must still be in shock ,you'll feel stronger when you've got your head round it. Thank you for posting .

I don't think admin allow political debate here - only questions like "my recyling bin hasn't been emptied " - think anything smacking of party political issues has to be relegated to the Lounge . Moved to the Lounge as it is a more a political debate than about specific ED issues. I will be keeping an eye on these types of posts in the run up to the election as I do not want the forum (especially the ED Issues section) used for electioneering however I understand that The Chair will be holding political debates in The Drawing Room. .

bus journey to central london from LL
intexasatthe moment replied to bil's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Buses from the plough - avoid 12 because it takes ages to get through Peckham. Take 40,176 ,185 and change at Camberwell ,or stay on ,depending where your final destination is. Should be ok to get on first one at Plough ,tho depends how late you leave it . -
steveo ,hush . We're all huge fans of Southwark Life ,such great value for money . And my teenage daughter just loves the down with the kids "whatever " supplement. She thinks its so coool.

I see planning permission sought to convert 208 ( "two-0 - eight " )Barry Rd into a nursery . It's on corner of Barry and Goodrich .

I thought there were a couple of posts following this one . From memory they were complaining about politicians in general and persuing the line of can we have more info about the consultation that included the question of a new crossing near Somerfield /Co op . Have they been removed ,or was I dreaming ? Admin ,don't you usually say when you've removed a post ? Have I gone bonkers ?

Mugging in Goodrich road

deleted because my question now answered . -
Request for more details re zebra crossing Lordship Lane Thanks for the 2 links James. And thank you for offering to spend time looking for the info.that we've requested. I feel a bit as though I'm being told off by you ,so apologies if I come across as not caring that in asking for information this involves you in work trying to find it . As an individual I don't have access to the details that I would like but believe ,perhaps wrongly ,that in your role you do . Personally I've had very negative experiences with consultations and I'm afraid that I do like to have claims fleshed out by knowing the details of the consultation that I'm told supports them. I think many people have little time for consultations and it may be that you spending time feeding back on one and providing figures when asked will restore faith so that people actually bother to complete them. So your efforts might be for the general good ? Not just to answer queries from one or two individuals who you think should be satisfied by your more general ,unsupported remarks ?

Incident on Cyrena road

Sounds to me like a subject for a discussion in The Lounge - what reasons would police have for requesting a ban on discussing a local incident on an internet forum ? -

Big Issue vendors should not be allowed to take pride in their appearance or try and look smart and presentable, according to some. Attempts at this shall be met with looks of disgust. And they must seem nice ,be polite and not be pushy . -
Mugging in Goodrich road
intexasatthe moment replied to TheGrinch's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
as with any ongoing police investigation, we do not want to hamper it by comments and theories appearing on the forum I feel sure that other incidents involving police presence and presumably being investigated by them ,have been discussed on this forum. Is this a new EDF policy or a response to a specific request by the police ? -
Mugging in Goodrich road
intexasatthe moment replied to TheGrinch's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
To add to the recent spate of muggings listed in this thread. A woman was assaulted on Cyrena road last night. Oh dear ,is that why this road was taped off and police in evidence this morning. Makes me think it must have been v.serious. Someone posted asking about this ,but I can't find the post now. -
Big Issue sellers in ED
intexasatthe moment replied to londonloves's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have a feeling that the people selling outside somerfield are related ,a family . Don't know how this fits in with Big Issue rules ,but can see how it might lend legitimacy to several people sharing one pitch. -
Fairlawn is a great school ,and speaking as a longterm resident of SE22 ,if I could choose I'd move up to Marmora area if I could . Check out how close you need to be to Fairlawn - sure Lewisham must have details on line about distance from school for last intake. Not so sure about this area being good for secondary schools though. But note that you may not still be living here then.

Thank you James. Of course the point was that this Academy can ,if they wish ,apply to increase the agreed admission number for any specfic year . Not the same as one or two people replacing one or two who have moved out - that would be natural movement from the waiting list. However as I've said ,I imagine it is to enable the Academy to accept individual applications into a year group that is full. I don't see the link between breaking a planning regulation ( which are not in any case relevant to the issue we are discussing ) and withdrawing an offered place .
-
James -I don't want to take up your time ,know lots of other issues to deal with ,so this post is really just to clarify. When I first saw this " The Harris Boys'Academy may set a higher admission number as its Published Admission Number for any specific year " in the Funding Agreement that defines how the school is run ,I was shocked . Which is why I posted it here. Having given it thought I have reached the conclusion that it's existence is probably nothing to worry about - as I said I'm guessing it's there to enable entry to year groups for certain isolated cases where admission is required despite that year group having reached its defined max nos. If I'd worked that out earlier ,assuming I'm right ,I wouldn't have mentioned it - rather wish I hadn't. But the clause is there and its existence means that the maxium number can be exceeded. And I'm afraid that the cynic in me wonders what action Southwark could take in enforcing any breach of planning with regard to this ,or any ,school. The ultimate sanction of closing the school ?
-
James - I appreciate that planning applications can be rejected . Harris have ,in their funding agreement for this building ,a clause which allows them ,subject to " consultation " ( my inverted commas ) to increase the number of admissions for any year. One of the bodies to be consulted is Southwark. You raised the idea that this would involve the planning department . I am baffled by your remarks about planning department and rejecting planning applications - we are talking about a building that is nearly complete ,a school that already has it's first year of entry and a funding agreement that sets out how the school will operate and the legal framework within which it does so. Harris' ability to "ask " for an increase in admissions numbers is ongoing ,not something that just applied during the planning process. The clause refers to increasing admissions numbers for " any specific year " - so I imagine it is there to allow the school to admit any special cases - maybe statemented children or someone who has won a place by appeal ,over and above the official number. I doubt - but don't know - that it is there to allow a huge jump in admission numbers.
