  1. Just a link to a parallel thread, Bird of prey in ED: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,357402

I'll put a link in that thread. Here are some pics I took of the Gang of Four sparrowhawks that I saw hanging around the East Dulwich Hospital site in July last year. Not up to the same quality, but most of them were taken through binoculars. Most of the time they just spent their afternoons perched on one or other window ledge or chimney, occasionally spreading their wings to move 20 yards to another one. Lazy buggers. I only noticed them after hearing lots of animated mewing from one of them after a strike on the neighbouring garden.
  3. If you're having problems specifically with e-mails, that will be due to either (1) a problem (probably a misconfiguration) with your own system or (2) a temporary problem at your ISP's end. The second is the more likely. Check your ISP's website. If they're any good (some are not) they will have good up-to-date service status reports. I'm having no problems on virgin.net.

  6. Did anyone watch or record this on BBC Four last night (Monday)? Some glitch on my recorder meant that I've only got 2hrs 56 minutes of it (up to the the start of Carlo and Francesca's wedding reception), and so may have lost about ten minutes at the end of part 2. Can anyone please remind me what I'm missing.

  8. Todd Can you please post links to (1) the Metro article (2) any reference to the drunken tipper driver.
  9. There are also trains from Peckham Rye/Denmark Hill to Wandsworth Road at 20 and 50 minutes. Journey time 9 minutes from PR. Then iirc there's the 77(a) bus direct. Though I think Pandora's two train stratagem (jouney time 25 min) would be hard to beat for a speed/predictability combination.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. No, that's fine, thanks. I'd been wondering what motivated it. In my belief, the police don't usually bother with such things unless they feel there's a strong need. I remember, for example, as a commuter, seeing such a notice turn up on Waterloo Bridge a month or so after an accident, and wondering what had happened (perhaps someone died?) to merit its appearance then. For whatever reason, it's probably a good thing that the police are getting involved in the analysis process. All accident statistics are collected and can be collated (there are web pages available, for example, showing the locations of all accidents involving cyclist). So perhaps the question of Barry Road is reaching the desk of the appropriate managers in both the police and the council. Contacting local councillors or police liaison would be a good way of helping nudge any such process along.

  15. I just have nightmares that I'll one day have to take a 185 bus, that it'll turn out to be Nigel's, and I'll be left with mental scars that will affect me for the rest of my life.

So what do we do then, if we personally come across, maybe for the first time, a person we believe to be the person referred to in some or all of the (more or less anonymous) postings here?
  19. Maybe 'Notify your local e-forum' should appear in an unofficial list of 'guidelines'. http://entertaining.suite101.com/article.cfm/the_dangers_of_sky_lanterns. And it would at least give us all a chance to have a look.

  22. I spoke too soon. Just seen three ?youngish sparrowhawks in the DH grounds. There's also a young fox that seems to have made it its patch. Regularly just sits in the open, washing and preening itself, or just observing, in between spells of sniffing around and investigating the place.

  24. If one chooses random telephone numbers, one must expect that some of them will belong to TPS subscribers, and be able and willing to screen them out. The company is responsible for the systems it uses. PS: if the company was truly doing market research, rather than selling, that is in any case _not_ covered by the TPS.
  25. Speasking of which, no signs this year of the sparrowhawks that perched on Dulwich Hospital last year. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,141521,145498#msg-145498
