  1. My reading is that non-automatic car washes were specified as restricted businesses only in the Step 1 specification of the main regulations SI 2021/364. And on 12 April we moved into Step 2. A trade association, https://www.ukpra.co.uk/en/the-car-wash-association, seems to agree. I suppose it might be that the proprietor, or maybe their landlords (who would they be?), are wanting to avoid any risk of the business not being run in a Covid-safe way -- that requirement remains. Or some totally unrelated reason.

  4. I wondered about that too, though I'm no expert. The Yellow Card full analysis prints at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine-adverse-reactions, for both Pfzer and AstraZeneca, do show several hundred reports each of Herpes infections -- mostly shingles and oral herpes --and a score or so of Candida; though I've no idea of the incidences pre-Covid. Whatever, with enduring upsetting symptoms like those, I think I'd be looking for some kind of assessment, and if relevant an opinion as to the likely outcomes of not having any treatment.

  6. I think you'll find that the regulations specific to _service_ of PCNs are the Civil Enforcement of Parking Contraventions (England) General Regulations 2007, SI 2007/3483 https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2007/3483/contents/made. Regulation 10 does have some specific exceptions to the 28 day period, up to a maximum of six months, for service by post. (I'm assuming btw, following EDRH1114090399's reference, that these _are_ the sets of regulations relevant to what you're talking about.) PS: There's similar provision of a six month limit, again in the case where there has been delay in the Secretary of State's supply of relevant particulars of the registered keeper in response to a timely request, in the Bus Lane Contraventions (Penalty Charges, Adjudication and Enforcement) (England) Regulations 2005 https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2005/2757/regulation/8/made . ETA: And in the London Local Authorities and Transport for London Act 2003 s.6 https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukla/2003/3/part/2/enacted. ETA 24/5 I'm confident that it's the last mentioned of these that's the relevant set of regulations, dealing with moving traffic infractions rather than those of parking or misuse of bus lanes.
  7. I know nothing of these things, but I see that Lidl are selling a K?rcher for ?149 as one of their weekly offers from Thursday 22nd. https://www.lidl.co.uk/en/c/garden-tools/c1859/w2

  9. > That's a decent description FFF. Inded. If I spotted him with one of the bikes and acting suspiciously, I think I'd be inclined to make it a 999 call (mentioning the previous reports), on the basis that there's a well-founded suspicion plus a high likelihood of incriminating evidence -- at least the Stanley knife, hopefully more -- being available. [ETA] On reflection, I do remember even a 101 call resulting in an immediate response to a report of an offence in progree, and arrest.
  10. I'd never heard of them before. According to the website quoted above, https://www.sainsburysbank.co.uk/pet-insurance/cat-breed/savannah, "You can expect to pay between ?800 and ?16,000 for a Savannah kitten. The cost varies greatly depending on their generation." So maybe keep an eye out for potential catnappers as well.
  11. There's a new second study, COM-COV2 https://comcovstudy.org.uk/participate, which is looking for those aged 50+ who've so far had just one AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccination between 25th January 2021 and 20th March 2021. Participants will be randomly given either the same vaccine or one of the new Novavax or Moderna vaccines. There'll be blood sampling sessions over a ten month period to test your immune response. There are now three London centres. They say "We are enrolling from all ethnicities and would particularly welcome participants from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community." I'm ruled out of this one too, having had both shots.

  13. I've just rediscovered the labelling on the other sides of one of my few old ones. Whether it's different from the current stock remains to be seen, but it has a fill line, as mentioned at https://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/garden-waste-collection-subscriptions?chapter=2 and says it's 75 litres. So my question remains: are the current stock a nominal 75l. too? I'd be surprised if they're substantially smaller, tbh, but would like to be sure. I've not found any mention of a charge, apart from the initial purchase of bags, for the arranged 'unscheduled' collection of 1-20 bagfuls. "Collections can only be made using the paper garden waste recycling sacks provided by the council." Those I have are very clearly labelled as such.
  14. Are the paper sacks still the same size as the old stock I have, about 78 x 58 cm flat? I don't know how that compares exactly with the 240 litres of a bin, but it looks more capacious than a large rucksack, and a rough calculation makes it about 85 litres.
  15. > Bob, do you understand symmetry ? Perhaps he meant cemetery?
  16. I had my second jab at St Thomas's last week, also brought forward by a week, making it a ten week interval. I turned up a little over twenty minutes early, to find a queue of about thirty people outside the building, so joined it. They are pretty efficient now at dealing with the large throughput -- I wss told about 4,000 a day over the three separate centres on the hospital campus. I was out in just over an hour, including the 15 minute post-jab wait. The screens listing the queue members seemed to be static, so we were all called up from the large waiting area by a masked assistant calling out names, which worked pretty well. Once called, you got directed to sit ready outside your assigned vaccination room. I saw rooms numbered up to 20.
  17. By chance I've just happened upon this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-london-56582064. I guess that maybe signals a piece on the TV local news later today. Or might it have been yesterday?
  18. Sue's quite right. And the OP and frankieboy are the only two contributors to this thread who haven't already been participating in the main one.
  19. > I had thought the Tessa Jowell > Centre was a health hub Penguin68, yoiu're right of course. There's a good descriptive overview from the local newly enlarged NHS CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) at https://selondonccg.nhs.uk/in-your-area/southwark/tessa-jowell-health-centre/, and another from the main hosptal service provider there: https://www.guysandstthomas.nhs.uk/news-and-events/2020-news/november/20201102-tessa-jowell-health-centre-now-open.aspx. And an NHS GP surgeries page including reviews: https://www.nhs.uk/services/gp-surgery/tessa-jowell-gp-surgery/G85132. The GP practice is an amalgamation of the Melbourne Grove and Hambleden practices. It's run by Omnes Healthcare Ltd, a subsidiary of the Omnes group. It was previously known as a Concordia group company. Concordia took over the Melbourne Grove practice about fifteen years ago.
  20. The Kindle edition of Tom Bower's "Boris Johnson: The Gambler" is reduced from (afaics) ?9.99 to ?0.99 until midnight today, as one of the Kindle Daily Deals at https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kindle-Daily-Deals/b?ie=UTF8&node=5400977031.
  21. > They seemed to scout around 3am > and returned again at 5am, Can you tell if the scouting seemed to be 'cold', ie speculatively looking in all likely places over a whole range of houses; or did it seem limited to particular locations, possibly based on information they already had?
  22. I think robinho would have had to have seen the perp(s) handling both the stolen bike and the two foundlings, for there to be even the slightest possibility of (1) being thought useful. robinho, you could try searching https://www.bikeregister.com/stolen-bikes for place London and each of the bike makes. The search results seem to be more or less date-ordered, and six months of results fill only two or three pages, so it's not onerous.
  23. Also, posts made in the past year containing "party wall surveyor": /forum/search.php?5,search=%22party+wall+surveyor%22,page=1,match_type=ALL,match_dates=365,match_forum=ALL. There seem to be several recommendation threads.
  24. Surpassing in what sense and respect? Or do you, or he, mean superseding? What were his actual words?
  25. I was perturbed by a report back in November about someone else's charge, /forum/read.php?5,2164086,#msg-2166483, and had a look around myself few days later. I'll write about that later, when I've compared what I saw then with what's available now. There are about half a dozen different service providers using the building. I think you're going to have to find an administrator there who is responsible for the premises themselves, and ask them to cancel the charge, which I think would be a wholly reasonable thing for them to do. If it was the GP surgery that was visited, perhaps they would be the best first port of call. It would be interesting to know how many other cases there may have been.
