  1. Some previous threads on hawkers and pedlars: /forum/read.php?5,2016178,2018236 /forum/read.php?5,1853516
  2. There are some emergency repairs overnight 14-15 Feb to the line between Peckham Rye and Nunhead. According to https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/242647.aspx they're scheduled to be done by 06:00, but it might be prudent to check on http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/ldbboard/dep/PMR/NHD/To that there's been no overrun. Looks ok now, Saturday 10:05

  5. > a steep decline in the level of investors knowledge > on markets (both into and retail investors). I take it the "into" is a typo or machine guess, but haven't yet lit on what it should be.
  6. Is there any information that can help narrow down the time of night that any of these took place?
  7. If anyone does have cause to call 999, I think I'd make a point of mentioning, not just the immediate act that triggered the call, but also, if appropriate, the fact that the person matches the description of the perpetrator of number of other instances of spontaneous 'random' threatening behaviour or assault in the area over the past week.
  8. You could try putting a largish amount of some strong smelling liquid (disinfectant, bleach, ...) firstly down your own loo, to see if that smell reaches you by the unconventional route. If that isn't detectable within a day or two, then perhaps provide some more and ask your neighbours if they will kindly do the same? If that turns out positive, I think that gives good grounds for their being involved in getting a professional investigation underway. Is it possible to be certain that it's the human product? Are there any other possible candidates?

Now rectified. (Even if the > evidence points to no one caring in first place. > Apart from Ian ;-). ) Who just doesn't care to take part in the discussion here. To fill in gaps, the post referred to, on the preceding page, is /forum/read.php?20,2091518,2093816#msg-2093816. The first, Sky, link quoted Norton's chief executive in March 2019: "All day long we would have preferred to remain but now we've looked and reviewed our business model in the light of Brexit. ... We have the potential to be bigger, better and stronger, to go across a wider range of export territories than we would ever have looked at if we had stayed Remain." The corrected, Guardian, link is about the firm now going into administration: "The 122-year-old brand ... had fallen victim to an assortment of overwhelming forces ranging from Brexit, a punchy HMRC pursuing the firm for ?300,000 in unpaid taxes, and tough international competition that made it impossible for Norton?s traditional bespoke approach to succeed." I suspect we'll have to wait some time, though, for substantial evidence of harms done by Brexit in itself. Edited to remove the otiose 'Officially' from the subject line.

  16. Here's oliviabacker at work in one of their other forums: http://www.brightways.org/forum/member.php?action=profile&uid=3499. It's quite amusing in a way, in Pakistan in one post, then recommending a Texas removal company. And a little group of identities that give positive ratings to each other and take turns to be the lead post. Perhaps one will be along soon.
  17. > I have reported it to the police, so have multiple > neighbours but we keep getting told that the car is > not of interest, most likely because the plates are wrong. Which suggests to me that _neither_ of the plates you mention matched a stolen car report in the police records. I believe Southwark amy well have conditional direct access to DVLA registered keeper records. I wonder if it will be worth telling them the story, to see if the plate switches provide them with a legitimate interest and power to access details of, and check with, the keepers, or at at least the one for the current plate. I'd have thought that probable. The switch does at least raise a suspicion that the car is or has not not been properly taxed. James, do you have any idea? A blue car with the second number plate, and ? some abrasion and rust of the nearside body below door level, was still there an hour ago. If you have good reason to believe it's stolen, have you thought of fairly harmlessly disabling its removal by, say, boxing it in?
  18. http://www.bikeshd.co.uk/ trawls and conveniently publishes details of bikes "found on sale in and around London", specifically to help people trace stolen ones. The first two pages I looked at each had photos and details of 60 bikes, all currently listed on Ebay. I've not worked out what their update protocol is, but it looks as if they add items at least hourly during daytime. Their home page currently says 15 bikes addded today, 139 'this week', which looks as if it means 'from Monday'. I think it's best to assume they trawl only Ebay and to keep checking Gumtree as well.
  19. I think that's one more reason, a strong one, for reporting the offence to the police. Bearing in mind, though, that if you want the police or LA to be able to do their job and act against the offender, you need to be prepared to provide a witness statement and, if the case gets as far as a trial with a not-guilty plea, to turn up and give evidence in court. Though in a case like this, if the evidence is good and points uncontestably to them, a perp may well sensibly admit guilt before then. Correction 16/1: Southwark actually say they can prosecute if evidence is available, so look to be the people to report to. If you are interested in having the perp pursued, I think I'd emphasise that, just in case it might otherwise get lost in the default 'clear the mess and mark sorted' pigeonhole. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/street-care/fly-tipping Correction 2, ten minutes later: Just noticed your own edits, Gloves. I'd be interested to hear of any outcome.

    UK Aid Match

I see that the link above now shows that the management of Match Aid has been outsourced. You can see the charities enrolled and open for donations at https://www.ukaidmatch.org/grants/?search=*&open=Yes. Unfortunately that page doesn't give the closing date for donations to benefit from the 100% Match Aid. (The "End Date" shown there clearly means something else.) This is just to point out, if you're thinking of donating to Sightsavers, that midnight today 9 January is the deadline for donations to them to be matched: https://www.sightsavers.org/aid-match-explained/.
