On second thought, perhaps we should be recruiting them to deal with the shoplifters and burgulars.

I agree with Loz. I have Java installed but usually disabled, and can't remember the last time when I've felt I had to temporarily enable it. I can't say that of Flash, which I also usually have disabled.

For the last few days I've been getting popup notifications of a Java update being available. Is it that that's bothering you? If so, you can ignore it, give it permission to install the update, or switch off the automatic update checking (you can use the Java control panel to do that; it may be accessible from a square orange icon on your taskbar).

Anyone else nearly knocked down at pelican crossing
ianr replied to lulu's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Rules for pedestrians (1-35) 19 Zebra crossings. Give traffic plenty of time to see you and to stop before you start to cross. Vehicles will need more time when the road is slippery. Wait until traffic has stopped from both directions or the road is clear before crossing. Remember that traffic does not have to stop until someone has moved onto the crossing. Keep looking both ways, and listening, in case a driver or rider has not seen you and attempts to overtake a vehicle that has stopped. 20 Where there is an island in the middle of a zebra crossing, wait on the island and follow Rule 19 before you cross the second half of the road ? it is a separate crossing. -

Next time it might be better to ask if it has an internal battery or can be used on a bus. -

We were given some partial indication of the injuries, which received hospital treatment, and told of the GBH charge.

Are you able to check the reception data for each multiplex, or to try tuning any one manually? Your problem, I assume, is with Mulitplex PSB1/BBCA, which uses channel 23, 490.0 MHz, with all the others getting detected ok. http://www.ukfree.tv/txdetail.php?a=TQ339712 Can others using the communal aerial pick it up? The only post-switchover problem I've come across that affects only one multiplex is the slight frequency change of multiplex COM6, to 529.8MHz. Some freeview boxes, including an old Goodman of mine, can't cope with its no longer being an exact 8 MHz step from the surrounding channels But that's not the case with PSB1. PS. I've just remembered experiencing the same problem with a Medion freeview box.. I eventually found that it had successfully detected the signal, but rather than assigning the stations local numbers 1, 2, etc for selection, matching their EPG entry, had placed them much higher in the range, possibly the 300s or the 800s. So do have a flip all the way through your stored channels in case they're hidden away somewhere. If so, it may be possible to move them to their usual locations.

Are you saying these 100% and 33.3% figures are used in deriving the published statistics?

I'm not sure there would have been any hurry to replace the Southern Electric wording. It was still accurate and informative after Southern Railway became Southern Region. I think I may remember the phrase myself, from the 50s or even later. And here's a photograph of Reading Station, said to have been taken in the 60s, that still has Southern Electric. http://www.semgonline.com/location/reading_01.html

Tg: that bit's clear from para. four of the article. Let me prune things: "The ... table shows the percentage of students obtaining A*/A" means what?
-
"The ... table shows the percentage of students obtaining A*/A or equivalent qualifications at independent schools across the country." Does anyone know what this means?

Unlikely, according to Webtrak, http://webtrak.bksv.com/lhr, from whose interactive map I've copied the following. The items are Time, FlightId, From->To, AircraftType, Height (feet), Groundspeed (knots), Locations crossed ('+' = junction-of) If I've not said it's an arc'd path, it's a due West flight, or within ~10 degrees of it. I can't find any statement of the timezone used: I assume it's BST. Note that most of these are north of East Dulwich proper. "Do not rub the disc or move the cloth in circular motions, and avoid following the circular lines in the disc." http://www.wisegeek.com/how-do-i-clean-a-cd-or-dvd.htm I can't give a convincing justification for this advice but I've seen it often and assume it's well-founded. I'm also doubtful that all paper towels are not abrasive.
