Hunger, wine and loneliness. With a measure of nosiness and laziness thrown in.

I was asked for my Instagram password, username and something else, to check I wasn?t being hacked and deleted, or I?d be deleted in 24 hrs. If I didn?t do this ?Instagram? who had suddenly gone downmarket with a @gmail.com email address would delete all of my content, as it included ?copyrighted? materials. Last checked, Instagram still fully functional. I never respond to any of this crap, you?re one of thousands, they?re not sitting ?waiting? for your particular response

I?ve seen a few and some from that era, though not common, neither are they unusual.

I like Danny Baker as a broadcaster, and in the past when he was on BBC Radio London, his shows verged on genius. However, there?s always been this balancing act, a verge of chaos with his way of broadcasting (and I include his Twitter feed). He prided himself on not conforming, not turning up with a running list of how his show would run, all based on his past ability to deliver, mostly or much of it off-the-cuff. And for years he pulled it off, he had form and could deliver on the day and of the moment. In some ways he was a dream ticket for producers, though I suspect a nightmare for others. He was a broadcasters, broadcaster. But it?s a ?live by the sword, die by the sword situation. Baker prides himself, styles his reputation on nuance and the power of words, and words are there to illustrate thoughts and visualise them. He was trading on his knowledgeable and knowing ways, and within the world he created, he was king. Sadly though here he?s hung and swung by his own petard, his own standard. The litmus test is wether Baker would himself have been understanding and/or forgiving if member of the establishment he lampoons with such regularity ( he admits he has a file of stock images to do so) had made such an error of judgment. I?m fairly sure he?d have been taken (rightly) to task, and Baker knows this. But is Baker a racist? I?m not sure wholly, but the post on Twitter hit all the notes of that category. Though I?m not sure if ?racist? is a 100% binary thing. I think most people in the high percentile ?don?t want to be perceived as racists? though there are deep seated and ingrained tropes in the world that we work hard on removing, both from society and ourselves. In this and other incidents it turns out thoughts to ourselves, in a ?thank f**k I didn?t do that? and maybe it?s a light shone on a before we even moment, where we reflect and pause before we open our mouths, or post about such things.

I think a tiny pair of Speedo?s is standard, along with a small towel, and some well trodden down flip-flops Bob. But it?s your manner that?s most important. You must be slow, calm and have the endurance of a rhino in the midday sun. You must be able to take the heat, or the Swedes will poo-poo you with ?no wonder Brexit is happening? as you keep flitting in and out of the sauna. If you are depilated then go sans the trunks, it?s my preference.

What colour to paint the front of victorian terrace? Help!
Seabag replied to PINKSHARK78's topic in The Lounge
Farrow & Ball?s most popular selling colour is ?Downpipe Grey? and you?d wonder why!? It?s essentially a dark warm tone grey, with a touch of blue to it, inspired by the old lead gutters and down pipes on houses once upon a time. But it also acts a perfect foil or compliment for a bolder colour palette, where reds, burnt orange, yellows and vibrant greens can play off the neutrality of the grey. There?s not a lot that doesn?t work with it. So the main body colour of the house can be strong and dark. I convinced a client in Westbourne Grove to paint their house (which was white at the time, in a row of white houses, their?s being the end of the terrace ) in lamp black, which is inspired by the soot colour inside an old oil lantern. The door of the house was then painted red, and it looked stunning. I have driven by numerous times over the years, and only the door has changed colour to reflect the times. It been mid blue, purple and other shades. But 20 years later it?s been head to toe redone, same lamp gray , with the red door in all its glory again. I had a massive smile on my face when I saw it. -
City is great. But can get fogged occasionally. I get an Uber there. Gatwick is dead easy. Train from Forest Hill, one change at Croydon, then straight to the airport.

FYI the place on Rosendale is open Sundays, as is The Butchery in Forest hill. Proud Sow do nice things, as do F&H. W.R is fun, local and not particularly expensive. It really depends what you like or buy. I?m currently waiting for a Heritage grazed Sussex downland Belted Galway, to be hung long enough to get the 3 rib of beef I?m after. I?m about 40 days away, but when it?s ready , it?ll be worth the wait. Get to know your butcher is my thoughts. Ask what?s coming in, plan some things around that. Or just buy a chop or two when it takes your fancy. Mail order wise. I use Philip Warrens of Launceston in Cornwall. Moorland grazed Red Devon?s rib of beef, dry aged in a salt chamber for 5 weeks , then popped in the post for a next day delivery. It?s pretty awesome.

What colour to paint the front of victorian terrace? Help!
Seabag replied to PINKSHARK78's topic in The Lounge
I find it best to go on a bit of a drive or cycle in somewhere like Chelsea or Kensington. Or head to Elgin Crescent in Notting Hill, where there?s a whole street of painted houses. People there often employ the skills of designers and decorating experts, so you?ll get to see some variety. Specially the front door and window colours. I?ve seen one house painted a dark dark, almost black, bottle green, with a non-gloss flat red front door. It looked beautiful, but it?s on a 3 story large terrace house, so scale is also relevant. Paint colour chart wise, I?d look at Little Green, DULUX heritage and maybe Paint Library. But I?d not be restricted to those, because ultimately the good mix machines have got a Minolta Spectrometer (something like 10 x more sensitive than the human eye) to scan with. I was in this business for years, and we?d often reference colour from elsewhere, then scan it. I?ve also worked on colour ranges with one of the above companies. Often there?s a close colour by a rival company, which is then tinted or shaded out to make it a bit different, so don?t be afraid of mixing your samples together, painting 3 coats on a card, then getting the custom colour scanned. If you want a paint shop that has the patience of a saint, then head either to Paper & Paints 4 Park Walk, Chelsea, London, SW10 0AD Or closer by is Whites on Brockley Rise. (very good trade store, with very good ranges)along with the equally good LONDON Decorators Merchants. 547-549 Norwood Rd, West Norwood, London, SE27 9DL. (Car park at the back) Paint type wise, I?d look at DULUX trade Diamond glaze. Akzo Coatings. Permaglaze. Little Green. But there?s a paint from Iceland (the country) we used a lot, and it?s awesome called ELICO. All waterbased and used in Scandinavia a lot. Available from Ray Munn in Fulham, where they?re incredibly patient too. Check out that brands colour ranges, but they scan and mix too. As I said, take a little tour of the surrounding area, it?s one big colour chart essentially. Take some pictures as you go. And a lot changed in 2012 when the VO rules came in. Paint composition has come on leaps and bounds. But don?t scrimp on quality, and don?t let anyone tell you ?B&Q own brand, all the way?. Invest and enjoy. Very lastly, the people behind the counter of a local DIY store might tell you stuff, but remember most to none of them can?t actually paint to save their lives. The old adage ?if you can p*ss you can paint? well some people pi*s on the seat and the floor, missing the loo all together. Though one guy at Whites on Brockley Rise is just the best to deal with. John, the little Irish guy, is a good man. As the old advert used to say ?It?s all preparation pet!? Feel free to PM me, I?ll point you in the direction of anything I can. Have fun, it?s a nice thing to consider what you?re doing. ππ½ -

It used to be called ?tarting up? of old furniture. Nothing much has changed, except you can use bent teaspoons and old cotton reels as drawer knobs.

I used to love pie & mash. I lived 5 minutes away from Arments for a number of years. Double, double with burnt tops. Add some white pepper and the spicy vinegar, so delicious. Specially if you?re in the throws of a hangover from the night before. But sadly, I get the worst crippling indigestion if I eat it now. So it?s a thing of the past for me, along with cucumber, and red or green peppers. It?s weird how as you get older, the things you can and can?t eat change. As for eels, not my favourite, but I do eat them in china town sometimes. Ah, fond memories of those day at Armements.

I?m hoping this is just a one-off Seven Oaks thing, but today I had an 80?s perfume flashback. We went to a restaurant, it was Mother?s Day so all the Mum?s were rightly being taken care of. However, there was one lady who just as I started on my prawn cocktail, came in with her family and sat down close to our table. I took one mouthful and then it hit me. The waft of perfume from the new people next to us, which I recognised straight away as Georgio Beverley Hills. That stuff was banned in cinemas, restaurants and god knows where else and for good reason. It?s bloody awful. To top it all the lady went of to powder her nose, taking her huge handbag with her and returned in an even greater cloud of the guffing stuff she bought in previously. So I moved seat, but the toxic cloud had got the better of me and far away wasn?t far enough, so we skipped dessert and spilt from the restaurant. I did mention it to the manager, who drily said ?Oh that stuff, Drag Queens in the 90?s used to wear that? I?m advocating a renewed ban on such things, along with Jeyes Fluid at Seven Oaks station (Seven Oaks has a lot to answer for IMHO) I hope I have your support.

Begging Bowl is better But do venture off the manor, head to Crofton Park and check out Malaysia Deli. It?s very home spun and home made, but just so nice too.

Maybe Uri will levitate a pen and sign Mrs May's resignation letter, while she?s docked and on stand-by in her #MayBot recharging bay. Actually, where?s David Ike when you need him most, I fancy hearing some of his spoutings on the whole subject. I made a chicken curry last nite and a pumpkin dahl this morning. I?m thinking how liberating this whole #Brexit situation is. Where you can ramble and ricochet, post seemingly disconnected thoughts and somehow feel quite normal, whatever that is. Haa Haa! my head just fell off. βοΈπ Actually you can read Ike?s ?Brexit is a mind control programme? musings here.https://www.davidicke.com/article/524944/brexit-mind-control-programme-get-us-stay

When reminding them of just how ?insert expletive here? the party are, you get the O.D.D knee jerk ? Ha!-so you?d rather have Jeremy Corbyn running the country then?? At which point you go to answer and you?re something measured about improving politics, but instead you get run down by a whole download of rhetoric, which come at you as fast as a croupier can shuffle and deal a deck of cards. From The Times today. ?May is at the mercy of a ?gang of 15? Brexiteer MPs who won?t budge, including a ?suicide squad? of around 10 plotting to vote with Labour in any no-confidence motion. If the Tories lost such a vote they would have 14 days to install a new leader or Jeremy Corbyn could become prime minister? May knows the Tory party will become the Toxic party if she fails to get this through. If Brexit ?doesn?t happen and the division in this country over ?the will of the people? not being carried out, then it will be the direct actions of the Tories that caused it. The whole sorry idea from Cameron?s permatanned butternut squash of a head, through to a stupid country dividing referendum, then the very people who insist that ?Brexit will be Brexit? or some other dogs dinner of a phrase, can?t actually carry out the instructions of a f*cked up democracy. May knows she?ll go down as one of the biggest failings in political history, along with the ERG and their likes. They?ll have failed for all their guff to deliver anything other than chaos. It?s been and still is, a fascinating time in history and politics. I?m sure we?ll discuss Ye Olde Brexit for years to come, in between endless series of Master Chef and the Voice.
