  1. Oh dear I feel one of those "I'm writting to the chief exec" type posts is soon to be upon us Again
  2. I think I've separated Rick on telly from Rick and his business ventures Actually I have, not I think. I get the dig about Rick's empire. But this thread is about 'cooking shows' and I like his and his little digs at eating culture. But they're not unique to Rick, as reading Jane Grigson's English Food yesterday she ponders wether we'd rather spend money on "biscuits, home improvements or gambling" than good ingredients And thinking about it, many people of 'the telly' are a bit odd in real life. Who was the little ginger haired round TV chef from years ago? I met him once, and ODD was definitely the word Antony Worrel Thompson ?
  3. Oh dear LadyN Each to their own, who is your fav? Obvs not Rick or Roux JNR
  4. It feels unessasary and for that I'm wondering WTF But in the grand scheme of London, a garden bridge is quite a nice idea I like the bridge, but not Boris
  5. So if we do exit does that mean we'll more than likely have a General Election soon after If we're out, who do we end up with as PM Boris? Farage? Oh heaven help. And just on that note, how is it the Brexitiers seem to be the odd-bods fallen from the ugly tree, both in looks and personality. On that superficial note alone, I'm voting 'IN' And wot ????'s said
  6. Not essentially a 'Cooking show' but a 4 part doc by the author Micheal Pollan His book on the history of eating 'Cooked' is essential reading, if you're interested in what makes us human I like Pollan very much, he makes me feel the world is ok https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/80022456
  7. You're on safe ground with Rick. His long weekends programme is all warm, cosy and make me smile I particularly liked the Bordeux trip, so much so I'm heading there again soon Rick Stein's Long Weekends, 1. Bordeaux: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b078djcl via @bbciplayer
  8. One word of warning. Caustic Soda is good, but it's a lethal chemical. I used to work with it and the burns it can cause are very very nasty. It's a strong alkali which has aggressive fat (flesh & eyes particularly) eating properties. Being anhydrous the powder can drift in the air and into unprotected eyes. The moisture in the eye will activate it enough to cause damage. If you do use it, then gloves, eye protection and someting over your hair are all good practice. It attacks fats, hair, oil paint and such like. It doesn't burn plastics or stainless, but it does react with aluminium.

  16. I wonder who in there actually wrote that, I suspect it was the big fella, he's very dry I've often used the phrase I heard in there once "Ok, so now the floor's full up, can we start using the bins"

  18. So I've got 885 minutes per day before the effect of cycling in the London air starts to kill me Basically I'm more likely to get flattened by a skip lorry, than choke to death.

Ah, I love that image Jah
  20. I signed the petition as have something like 4K others There's a review of the case I think
  21. This is getting a little bit "My Nan smoked 50 a day and lived to 92" Leave the runners alone, nothing beats a good bit of excercise to lift the mood and keep the body leaner. One of the best high's I've had is from running. And yeah, Jim Fixx died of a heart attack, up until then I'd say he was a happy man I'm a bike man now, but loved the running day
  22. I love our mini, but it's bloody silly too. We've a 2 dr Cooper petrol, not the big Clubman style mini. Ours is a soft-top which might make the back more of a squeeze. However, it runs like clockwork and is built very well, it goes like a rocket and round corners like its on rails But it is mini-diddy small inside, and 2+2 is very tight. We took our 11 year old and his freind to the beach last week. And with a couple of bags we were maxed out, knees up against the back seats. However, for zipping around town with 2 of you in, it's great (bumpy) fun. But as the only family car, I'd be very challenged For safe-bet family motoring I'd buy a golf, if I was looking for a neater size car. Maybe a Polo, but avoid anything French built, they're cheaper for a reason. And remember, little ones soon become big ones. I've also ended up with a 6 seater VW, which is a bit overkill, but it stops teenagers whacking each other at close quarters
  23. I think what happens in reality is that the long standing business are just that, mainly. It's the stragglers and the likes that come up and get subsumed by the 'new wave'. Look at where Honest are, what was there before? Not a long standing business, or if so one which was down and out for the count. It's a Darwinian evolution, though a few dinosaur will remain Just wait until the longstanding private members house/club gets its location sorted, then there's no going back
  24. Turn back, before the moon sets, before the carriages won't return Did you order a stake? *bats hover, castle Dracenham looms through the moon lit clouds, wolves bay, lightening strikes*
