  1. That's the great thing about humour, it's subjective. Not a black or white issue.

LOL...my apols....in anycase, it was more a reference to the broader English rugby fan...as they are the ones who have absolutely mooshed our scrum into oblivion more than a few times over the past 10-20years....

Well....it is a game with some speed (certainly versus the BIL/BOK game last week!)..albeit a lot of errors from both teams early in the game.....we stuck with them for 50mins or so....and our physicality and execution in places is much improved on recent years, and believe it or not my English brethren, the Wallaby scrum is now a weapon, especially with our reserve THP on the park...but overall just not consistent enough against the AB's who just punish any errors or drops in intensity...

The size of the Bok forwards is only dwarfed by the enormity of the disgraceful antics of Rassie last week..... After being lauded as a great manager post RWC; I hear a comment this week by a well known rugby luminary who asked "Does Rassie mean d!ckhead in Afrikaans?".... Anyway....hoping for a cracking game tomorrow afternoon...and hoping the AB's dont pump my boys too much at Eden Park tomorrow morning as a lead-in!

  8. I think we're meant to call them Helicopters of Colour....
  9. Totally, and that bit where a container ship floats up fifth Avenue to then be frozen outside the New York Library is total rubbish....I mean it would have definitely taken Madison.... :)
  10. Can someone explain to me why the 0.5 percent of EU trade that goes over the Irish border is subject to 20percent of customs checks. I mean the EU is so amazing, it couldn't be that they are acting in bad faith could it?

I think team environment plays into it as well....both negative (being egged on, confidence as part of a group) and positive (the strictness is about not letting your teammates down). As an aside....first lions test kickoff in 75mins....as a neutral I'm really looking forward to it. Should be a cracker. Sorry...off topic!

You're not alone of the forum in this view, as I know another prominent poster who gets a little irked by the same thing! I don't really get the problem myself though, as Boris is an unusual name, and Johnson is very common, so it's not a massive surprise that Boris gets used to refer to him....I don't think it really an indication of familiarity. But, even if it is...I'd argue it belongs in the 'tiny things that cause irrational rage' thread:)

Ah...yes...Leavers and Remainers do exist, and it will probably impact their view of Boris, that much we can acknowledge....but I make no comment on which group was right or wrong.... Thats where i'd ideally like the line drawn on this thread!
  15. An on-topic and an enjoyable read discussing the the 'groteque' yet potentially 'uplifting' spectacle of the Games.... https://www.theroar.com.au/2021/07/23/i-will-not-forsake-you-my-olympics/

The ballot box is the one place you can go and not have to justify your decision to anyone but yourself. I think voters? gratitude is short-lived...look at the various by-election swings this year. For me, events over the next few years are likely to play a much bigger part in many Leave voters? views of Boris Johnson at the next general election than his status as hero of the referendum campaign (not my view, but im generalising). They have banked his achievements (such as they are), and will be looking for what comes next. While Remainers will carry on seeing every failure as confirmation of their contempt and loathing.

No, the thread subject is not a typ0..... While Mr Johnson's demise has long been (usually incorrectly) forecast on these pages.....Does the collective forum wisdom think we'll get to the next GE with Boris at the helm? A few discussion points: - Boris is inexorably linked with Brexit. Will the Tories feel the need to make something of a break from that and lure some ex-Tory voting remainers back into the fold? There will, of course, be ongoing policy work and EU negotiations/re-negotiations to manage...we're by no means 'done'; and whoever replaces him will probably still be a Brexiteer, but obviously without the same level of synonymous branding - Tories are riding high in the polls, but once the euphoria of 'freedom' wears off, and life returns to something as close to normal as pragmatically possible - will this governments seemingly totally chaotic decision making process on day to day issues be laid bare? - Despite the polls and the parliamentary majority, there have obviously been quite a few unhappy Tory backbenchers at various times over the past 12 months. Now at present I cant see the sense in any serious challenger raising their head above the parapet right now...I mean its quite hospital pass to take COVID 3rd wave/NIP arguments/Striking nurses etc...but perhaps in 12 months time things could be different? - Is all of the above just thinking about this too deeply, and the bloke has a massive majority and a massive poll lead - so the answer as to when, is whenever he wants? Polite request to forumites: Please please, please...while the other 'B' word has been mentioned, can we please not let this become another thread which argues about whether it was a good idea/bad idea/disaster/Sunlit Uplands etc etc....we generally know who thinks what...and that's unlikely to change...in anycase there are plenty of other threads to take potshots at eachother about that....:)
  18. With apologies to the athletes that have worked their @rses off to get there....but I really hope it doesnt....
  19. So the opening ceremony is about to begin any minute.....I must say it does feel like a ludicrously out of place/tone-deaf spectacle to carry on with at this juncture in global current affairs.....

Edit: It appears i've got my syntax wrong to embed the pic can someone kindly post me a reminder...
  22. Obviously every little helps (Credit: Tesco), and the presence of the latter does the opposite of negate the need for the former.....but it is frustrating nonetheless. I have had cause to travel to China quite a lot during my career, mostly touring heavy industrial facilities....so always found it perverse to think about grandma in the UK rinsing out her used marmite pots to put into the recycling, when at the same time you can step outside in Tangshan and not be able to see across to the other side the road because of pollution.... So as I said, more angering than ironic...so perhaps less 'Ironic' and more 'You Oughta Know'.....
  23. TheCat

    No, sir

Its useful that the "No, Sir" appropriate way to address someone thread has seemingly merged with the "Freedom day poll", as the attached photo was sent to me by a mate (an actual mate, as opposed to me calling most of you 'mate':)) ) in Australia...and seems to be appropriate for both threads....

    No, sir

Strewth. It's shits me to tears when people misspell my language. (NB: I don't use 'it shits me to tears' in more formal settings. Just for job interviews and weddings)
  25. TheCat

    No, sir

I do use 'mate' a lot, often just unconciously, and sometimes I do sense some brits find it out of place in some settings. But as an uncouth aussie, I can usually get away with it. 'Mate' is also more inclusive than sir or ma'am for the non-binary community.
