SteveT, do you have just the one record? And do you realise its broken?
  4. It is a con, but agents won't advertise your property without a HIP, and a HIP has to have an EPC. Just another marvellous waste of time and money introduced by this government. Or perhaps part of their work creation scheme to keep people out of the unemployment stats?
  5. Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It certainly was going to be compulsory at some > point, but I can't remember if the government > backtracked? EPC is compulsory as part of HIP, and HIP is compulsory since April this year. So yes, if you want to sell...
  6. My sympathies are with you, PR, but I fear this is demand and supply, and they clearly have enough writers (or they'd be offering more money). I suggest if money is to be made from the written word, it is to be made elsewhere. Writing a bestseller that gets turned into a movie. Writing that brilliant/daft book that everyone buys at Xmas (Eats, Leaves and Shoots Lynn Truss, or whatever it was called). Or if creativity in general is your bag, coming up with the next new popular board game mebbe... Life in general is not fair, it has to be said. There are those that have never had to work a day in their lives, while others do thankless jobs for decades for not much at all. I suppose we should consider ourselves lucky if we (a) get paid quite a bit or (b) can live on the money from doing something we enjoy.
  7. Timmy, we always do last minute. But we do flight separate from accommodation. That way you get a cheapo flight and fab (private) accommodation. If you go for an 'operator deal', you get what you pay for. We've done this in the last couple of years for Symi (Greek island), for SW Turkey (this May) and for Cuba (last Spring). All a raging success. This May we got cottage in lovely small village on Turkish coast, with garden, plunge pool etc., for just 250 a week. The price in Symi was even less for a truly incredible house (end of season gap in bookings). Our only disappointment was Crete last autumn, where we went for a package deal. The accomm a huge disappointment. So to reiterate, you get what you pay for if you go package. Find a really good flight to somewhere you fancy going, then quickly do some online homework on truly independent accommodation (which by then will be doing deals) and book direct.
  8. newsummer, if you had one water leak (from another property) after another literally flooding your property, you might thing differently. I've actually had steam rising from my walls when the neighbour's boiler exploded, just one of many "events" involving cascading water. Draping your rooms in plastic sheeting is not an answer.
  9. I think banning should be reserved for those that are gratuitously offensive towards individuals. Someone holding offensive views is part of life. These people exist, however much you would like them not to. But if they insult community members, then that's different (that imperils the future of the group/forum etc.). Indeed, someone who imperils the sustainability of the community/forum/group is someone who should be banned.
  10. When I was walking back from a screening of The Age of Stupid at the Dog on Thursday evening, a fox almost ran into me (coming out of a front garden on Court Lane south side). It was pretty flustered, and did an immediate 180 degree turn.

No indeed there should not, dearest Tony, as teutonic is an adjective, and even our darling neighbours the Germans draw the line at capitalising adjectives. And neither should 'darling' contain an initial capital, dear love, unless of course you are intending me to be your one true love in the world.
  13. The fact is, TLS, that every time you write, it is as if I were having to take an assault up the jacksie from a German. Really most uncomfortable. I'm sure you will understand.

In English, the word 'plumber' does not include an initial capital. Neither do the words 'group' or 'gender'. The fact is, we do not live in Germany. We do not, consequently, sprinkle initial capitals across our texts like confetti, or sugar on our morning cereal, or indeed salt on the so-called dinner of our vegan neighbour. Thank goodness. If you are to continue propounding your views - with such vigour - on the mores and politics of our benighted country, I would really appreciate it if you were to write English in the manner commonly accepted, rather than in a manner that might be proposed by Germans. (cf Fowler et al.)
  15. Exacly, it's always about the wish to burn things, to make something that's charred and blackened. That's what men do. If they are no longer to produce sperm, what else is left for the poor loves?

Or maybe I should just contact the TW people responsible for dealing with the Regs?

I have several, of varying ages. There are no 'common areas' (other than outdoors). Can you point to anywhere vaguely official that says this? > > A pressure regulator on your neighbours will stop > the clanging problems caused by incorrectly > installed pipes ? they should have been fixed in > place with clips.? It's not actually clanging of pipes, it's a kind of 'I've switched on the engine of this aircraft' industrial hum and pervades the whole flat (although clearly caused by the pipes)
  18. I had the same problems as you with indoor aerial with amplifier. I installed an external one and everything was fine.
  19. thebeard Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I wish I had higher pressure. > > > I would happily fit a pressure regulator on the > mains and replace fittings at my own cost rather > than suffer from the pathetic pressure I have! Unfortunately fitting a pressure regulator on my own property won't fix the problem. It's the leaks and noise from other properties that's the problem. All my fittings etc are practically brand new and haven't had any problems.
  20. kfrd, unfortuantely it's not my mains stopcock that can affect this, as the issue is with water leaks into mine from surrounding properties. (I've had just about all my pipework replaced recently, but I have a number of pipes going though my property to neighbours, and then there are their appliances and taps etc beyond.) The neighbour concerned with my building's problem has spoken to plumber who thinks that all the problems we are experiencing are down to raised/erratic pressure, but I'm not sure that I can force this neighbour to do something about what is essentially a TW problem. (And there's another building in the same situation two doors down with same issues.) Last night the pressure suddenly went up at around 1.20am, sounded like a factory with all the pipes passing though my place making strange noises...

The best thing would be for them to be obliged to submit a comprehensive travel management plan for the school. This would include a full account of traffic generated by the school, and the specific steps that the school would take to reduce its impact on the environment, with quantifiable targets.
  22. As long are they're not men with beards, you should be okay :)
  23. Has anyone else experienced problems with substantially increased water pressure and consequent leaks? (in the last 9-18 months or so) If so, what road are you in? And around when do you think it started, roughly? I've suddenly had a number of leaks into my property for no apparent reason, some of which have been very damaging; the water is often incredibly noisy in the pipes now (sounds like an industrial installation); the water pressure is clearly way higher than it used to be; and one of my neighbours on the same side of the road (so at the same elevation) has mentioned that Thames Water has increased water pressure and they (the neighbours) are having serious problems (and were considering installing some kind of flow limiter). (Apparently this has happened elsewhere in London also, with TW ending up paying compensation for damage caused, so I'm just checking around before writing to TW.) Feel free to PM me
