Kings College Hospital - going to the dogs?
louisiana replied to louisiana's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Okay, to follow up above, despite verbal assurances given in person F2F *twice* by the admin in opthalmology, they are still - I have the written evidence in front of me - sending info to the wrong GP in the wrong city in the wrong *region*. Again. Luck of the draw? I'm getting very unlucky. This is now the *4th* time I am having to get KCH to change their duff info for me and my GP. They are definitely changing something. But it's clearly not the data that actually matters! Choose and Book by phone (which is the only way I'm allowed for this) means there is no longer *any* connection between GP and hospital. This may be the problem. Goodness only knows where all this duff info is coming from (the Dead Sea Scrolls?), but last time I tried to get it changed (at the counter in opthalmology, in person, a month ago) they absolutely assured me that they had my GP correct. (I was felt to feel a fool even for trying to check that they had definitely corrected it: "But I did that this morning! I told you!!") And yet, it's oh so clear it didn't happen. Yes, I shall be filing all this this with PALS, who in fact called me just this morning about my GP-charging-premium-phone-line-for-appointments (0844) complaint re Forest Hill Road practice. And I have already been through the PALS system this year re my dentist charging multiple fat private rates for what they should have charged a single NHS fee. I'm well acquainted. I'm sure a lot of the issues around Choose and Book are nothing to do with the hospital. And I shall be letting my doctor know (not by phone - it's a premium line!). She is very keen on CandB as it means less work to set up for her, but now she is never getting any info from the hospital.... -
'I am lower class, and I know my place...' Seriously though, Trevor Phillips is now gunning for privately educated white males, according to G2. He is completely right, of course. Go and stand in the corner, the lot of you. B)

Police sipping lattes every morning in Starbucks in Sainsburys

Would local plods be doing a murder investigation? Or would that be flying-squad or some kind of serious crime unit from Met Towers? I don't know enough about how the polis are organised. -

There is a quaint old English tradition called the tea break. While it has long disappeared from swaths of industry and commerce, there are some uniformed branches of public life where it hangs still by a thread. Think of it as akin to encountering morris dancers: admire the costumes, sing along to the sound effects, exchange cordial greetings and go on your merry way with a spring in your step. -

One of the more powerful aspects of state surveillance in both East Germany and Franco's Spain was the official snitch living on virtually every street. You knew not who was in the pay of the 'social police', so in effect nobody could be trusted. The word of the snitch to the authorities was enough to land you in police custody; and your private life investigated in depth. Though in Spain, attention could be temporarily diverted with small offerings of cash.

There was another murder in Brockill Crescent on Saturday, around an hour after I passed nearby. Yes, that's SE4 (but walking distance from here). That one hasn't hit the press in the way that the SE22 one has. -

Re Barry Road: there has in the past been a rape (in the street) and a few other things. It's not the best street. But not the worst either. And not a whole lot different from several of the streets around it. What I'm not so fond of in that part of the road and nearby is the number of young men with 'statement' dogs (somewhere on the Staffie-pit bull axis, maybe not quite legal, certainly replete with plenty of metal). While some/most no doubt mean well (both dogs and owners) I personally find it a little threatening (but that's just me, mebbe). -
Tessa Jowell's husband found guilty (Lounged)
louisiana replied to snoozequeen1's topic in The Lounge
SteveT Many thanks for your fan-dom. When it comes to white-collar crime, I hope to be always on the ball, as it were. We have a specialised govt. unit tasked with (urgh! what an expression. But I'll use it anyway) recovering the proceeds of crime. And there are some very clear and public proceeds right there in TJ's pocket. This 'loyal' (I quote The Observer profile yesterday) public servant is perhaps a little too loyal to her bank balance. Everyone talks about what happened, but nobody asks her to hand over the substantial dosh. I find this quite remarkable. If we fail to do anything about it, the buggers will keep doing the same old thing. Upholding standards in public life is about just that: actually upholding each standard, and calling on people to account. I have little time for the Italian political and judicial systems, but they seem to be doing more in this case than we are. -
Yes, the Stella is the disturbing bit.

Your example is a red herring. TJ was not an employee, nor did she receive the dosh 'in the course of her duties', 'whilst performing her duties' or as part of running a business as either employee or employer, however defined. Mr TJ came home with a wad of readies or equivalent, the proceeds of a crime but seemingly from an unnamed source, and she pocketed it. And it remains in her pocket, AFAIK. I would like to hear otherwise. If your brother defrauded a bank, and handed the money to you for safekeeping, and he was found out, would you really expect to keep your hands on the money? > > If it was proceeds from criminal activity then > that's one thing, but if it was a salary performed > for activities that were later found to be in > breach of the law, I don't know how the courts > would be able to address it. > > Interesting! -

While TJ may have been stupid not to enquire where such a large sum of money suddenly came from - and to have signed a mortgage for such a large sum, likewise - I still have no confirmation that she returned the money once she did know. Has she returned the money? (or donated it to charity if it cannot be returned?). Because if not, she continues to benefit, substantially, from what has been deemed a crime in a court of law. It really is irrrelevant whether the crime is bank robbery or corruption. I'd love to hear that she has in fact returned the money to whence it came. -

Pulses: lentils, beans, chick peas. You can do great things with them and all have low GI. Sourdough bread. -
Or self employed who need three mins of light relief between client dramas.

@ FrustratedLawyer: That was my very first thought when I saw the post. It just looks like a total plant. Which is why I didn't respond at first. @mikecg: there is only one dulwichmum. My own favoured addition to the Lane would be a micro branch of Heals or Liberty.

As benmorg has suggested, there's been a killing over parking, and a killing over a supermarket queue argument. And various killings with mistaken identity. All kinds of minor things these days may result in assault or worse. There are a lot of people walking around with weapons, and some people don't seem to need much cause to use them. -
I'd venture to suggest that most of ED is more M&S than S&M.

Get Firefox. I've been using it for years. I'm no geek. The extensions are great. (I spent Thursday in some corporate HQ with people struggling with a new version install of IE. Thing is with MS, they take a an interface that loads of people know, then throw it away and start again.)
