Th' Dudes had a pretty good song about the inhabitants of the West Island. The East Island is the whole of the Americas.

V1 & V2 Bombs dropped on Lordship Lane.

I have been re-reading Collier's "Valuation for War Damage" (1945) and I had forgotten how complicated and slow it was to get any money out of the War Damage Commission. Because of raw material and manpower shortages repairs were often made with insufficient poor quality materials by inexperienced workers. I would be interested to hear if anyone has had to repair war damage repairs (not only that caused by V1s and V2s). -
[Advance apologies to The Chair] Buy half an hour from an IFA who does not work for commission.

You would be unwise to take any action based on speculations about future interest rates that you read here. You might like to try stress testing your personal finances with base rate at 5%, 10%, and 15% and then, when you have looked at these scenarios, seek professional advice tailored to your personal circumstances.

Unfortunately this book is out of print. Perhaps a rich person could fund a reprint of just the SE22 bomb damage map. -
That sounds similar to the South Circular magazine - which I have not seen for a long time either.

NHS staff - 50% higher rate of sickies

I understand that the NHS will have a dire shortage of midwives within 10 years due to retirements. Is the age distribution of NHS workers skewed towards older worker? Do workers approaching retirement age have more sickness? -

The East Dulwich share of 53,000 must be quite small then. A local businness is likely to get more bangs per buck by advertising in the SE22 and SE21 magazines.

Huguenot: Looks like you fell for that spurious ?1m pension pot intervention too. Even at current interest rates a 65 year old male can get an annuity of ?71,710 per year with that size of pension pot. MacRoban -

Of course it wasn't the point. It was a ~JOKE~! The point is we can't do any analysis at all until someone presents some accurate private sector data. Until then we are all flailing. -

Shock! Horror! The average number of sick days taken by a private worker is more that the median number of days taken by a NHS worker. -
I wouldn't welcome a change to complicated collapsing software. All we need in the Drawing Room is a wetware upgrade from Sofa v0.1 to Chair v3.11.

Jeremy: I'm mildly optimistic at the moment. After a little more pain for the next 18 months or so I can see a period of stability which will enable young people to do sensible financial planning. My reasons belong in another thread. I appreciate it was a wind-up but I did not say that economic cycles of "boom and bust" would not continue after a step-change-down. And to keep on-topic: I expect base rate to revert to a 2.5% to 5% range with LIBOR no more than 50 basis points above this and lending rates to credit-worthy personal customers to be in the 6% to 8.5% range. I do not expect any significant movement towards these figures until after the General Election unless there is a Gilts strike.
