  1. Financial journalists seem to have settled on ?290m for the price BC Partners paid for the 20 branches of Foxtons. At an average price of ?14.5m per branch commentators are saying that BC Partners overpaid and the Foxtons business model is now likely to collapse given the costs of re-financing the loans used to purchase Foxtons and the slump in the housing market. Has anyone seen any glum faces in East Dulwich Foxtons recently?
  2. > especially considering there will be a new library up at Grove Vale with twice the floor space to fill.... I don't think anyone said there would be twice the stock of books.
  3. I pledge allegiance to the Crystal Palace Tavern, and to the beer for which it stands...
  4. I was under the impression that in the matter of fences and such-like the Council bears its own risk and does not take out insurance.
  5. > then abandon it in a cafe, on a bench, on the bus etc and when someone finds it they can Issue a ?75 fine for litter.
  6. I'm more concerned about a standard bloomer costing ?2.50 or more by the end of 2008.
  7. Who can you trust? The Heathrow new runway sewage farm.
  8. 1,200 * 6 * ?50 = ?360,000pa [if "so far" is two months and all collected]
  9. Today's trading statement by J.D.Wetherspoon suggests that its business model of 40/60 alcohol/food is falling apart. If a big boy has these difficulties, how much more difficult is it for the East Dulwich "gastros"? When you have time, scor46....
  10. Flat fee ?140 pcm.
  11. I've received a letter from my accountant offering a flat fee service to put my buy-to-let activities on a sound basis before the HMRC investigation takes place. Strange as I don't do buy-to-let, but there must be a reason I was sent the letter.
  12. I do think it might be useful to have a map of retail premises ~NOT~ on Lordship Lane.
  13. But their map does show the Goose Green tram shelter.
  14. > I think the administrator should lock down this thread until the facts of the matter can be established. I agree. MacRoban
  15. Dropped in on Saturday. It's coming along nicely.
  16. A hanging basket on Goose Green roundabout would be fine.
  17. The sweet old man who sells News Line around South East London railway stations, including East Dulwich Station, is an unreformed WRP member. He would be horrified to be associated with the SWP.
  18. Phil Ochs wrote about this - now that I'm older and wiser
  19. The first East Dulwich estate agents to break ranks and drop percentage commissions and introduce a flat fee of, say, ?2000 would make a killing. It could be a Foxtons-killer too.
  20. Increasing revenue from charges is part of Southwark Council's Strategic Plan. It's on the web-site if anyone wants to read it.
  21. Comrade snorky has previously rehearsed the legal status of "fines" and private parking areas. Perhaps snorky could now explain the legal status of differential contract pricing of (say) charging ?50 to park in a disabled parking space in a private car park without a valid diasbled badege.
  22. Frightening. Four out of five are Borg.
  23. > I think they forget they were voted in to represent the local population, which is clearly voting for Neros with their feet and their money. I think the above might be a fallacious argument. All I see is Caffe Nero customers voting with their feet and their money.
  24. No, not in the last six decades (or in the 21st Century).
  25. > Ah, but wouldn't you then be flouting the smoking ban? Which has a max fine of ?200 Knowing the Land Registry plans of some commercial properties in Lordship Lane leads me to think that roughly the first four feet of the pavement from the Somerfield windows belongs to them and not the Council, however, further investigation would be required.
