  1. Although it might seem that Foxtons arrived in East Dulwich on the crest of a slump, mikeb's analysis suggests they will survive.
  2. Are there any East Dulwich specific charity collections this Christmas?
  3. 1. Pedestrian crossing closed with a "sorry" sign. 2. Bright lights shining in faces of drivers driving North. 3. Large vans parked within a few feet of the (Southside) junction of Northcross Road and Lordship Lane. 4. Pavement on East side of Lordship Lane blocked to pedestrians. 5. Northcross Road restricted to single lane with parking cones. Someone gave permission for this travesty.
  4. > is that a joke macroban? > How dangerous can it be to walk a few yards a cross there? No joke. Did you see it? MacRoban
  5. I walked past there this morning. Very irresponsible action: filming at a road junction and shutting the pedestrian crossing. Who gave permission for this dangerous activity?
  6. > ED isn't a muggers paradise, Michael. It's the area surrounding ED. Dulwich Village where they rob you with a fountain pen.
  7. None so wise as those who will not listen. I don't think the place that sells "herbal remedies" would like the lyrics.
  8. No more apricot pies as a special treat when there's some spare shopping money. It's probably time to increase the amount of home cooking.
  9. I can't see that a book format would be viable unless it were loose-leaf. There's far too many changes around here these days: new businesses opening, local pharmacies increasing their opening hours, gift shops going out of business after Christmas, etc.
  10. I thought that Southwark Council only has a lease for the Grove Vale Library premises.
  11. I thought that should be "ne1".
  12. > Motorcycling ain't eco, either (engine size to person ratio). This is the "let's all walk naked" argument.
  13. > that's a silly class-ridden attitude that belongs in another era. Not for the pensioner who is unlikely to be able to afford more than 5% of her pension on a single loaf of bread.
  14. Quite right. How much terracota is there on east Dulwich business premises?
  15. My concern starts at the East Dulwich level. How many local businesses and organisations are properly registered under the Data Protection Act? The total national registration of Data Controllers is about 270,000. This suggests there may be a local shortfall.
  16. Look on the bright side. Some good has come out of this.
  17. > Oh dear. Assertions not data. It seems that ?14,000 of public money has been allocated to this project. I regard it as proper to have financial transparency. Our local sorting office is overloaded. I'm not sure I welcome a further backlog of letters.
  18. The despatch of letters negates the ecological benefit of the bags?
  19. Dulwich Hamlet Football Club had to struggle to survive the First World War. The club regarded its major achievement to be protecting the turf through this difficult period. A few more details are in "75th Anniversary, 1893/4 - 1967/8, History of Dulwich Hamlet Fooball Club". As a side note, of the local businesses who 40 years ago sponsored this book by advertisements, only R.Bell & Son, 171 Lordship Lane, is still with us.
  20. I'm not too keen on street lights either, Mr MacGabhann. I'd prefer to see the stars in the night sky.
  21. There's a fair amount of light pollution from domestic windows too. Perhaps a bye-law for lights out by 11pm too?
  22. Snorky's helpful hints for the new breed of East Dulwich shopper? I'll help with the first three: #1. Take the plum out of your mouth before talking to a shop assistant. #2. Do not interrupt a shop assistant who is serving another customer. #3. Do not be surprised when you reach the till and you are asked to pay for your goods.
  23. The guys at the sorting office are always very helpful, as are the regular post people. It seems to be macho management causing the problems.
  24. It seems to me that priority is being given to contract/Mailsort post to avoid contract penalties, thereafter it's last in first out [LIFO].
  25. An interesting project for the East Dulwich Forum - a price comparison chart for the local drinking establishments.
