  1. > bloody binmen not getting one that's for sure. They'll probably get tens of thousands after Christmas.
  2. > That's it, I have now changed my policy ad will no longer tip ANYONE after all your wise words. That's only one step away from refusing a workplace Christmas bonus.
  3. It was no place for a pregnant unmarried young woman to be looking for a bed for the night.
  4. All too young to remember the wise words of Lonnie Donegan.
  5. A nice bottle of single malt for the driver to share with his team should see you straight for 2008.
  6. A seasonal reminder. Collection days have been changed over the holiday period. Put out your refuse on the wrong day and you might get a Statutory Penalty Christmas present.
  7. What the Dickens *Bob*? I used to enjoy visiting Santa's Grotto at Jones & Higgins.
  8. Nice to see *Bob* is now a Damsacan Timothy. Merry Christmas *Bob*.
  9. A lot of plastic fascia polution in that photo.
  10. I am now the proud owner of one of these books. I normally don't get the East Dulwich freebies. I think the delivery persons take one look at the front path and think it's not worth the effort. However, this year I did get a Christmas Card from the Leader of Southwark Council. Why is it called "The Dulwich Black Book"? I think I must have missed something.
  11. > that camberwell man is a real blast from the past in every sense. I lived on church street v close to him I think this was Dennis Noble who ran the photographic studio at least into the early 1960s.
  12. I been waiting for the NEDDIES to have a go at Farmer's.
  13. I didn't know that BARA is funded by Southwark Council Housing Department.
  14. Work Experience for Alan Dale? That could be interesting. Are you selling tickets?
  15. > Looking at the tube map it always amazes what a rubbish deal south london gets in terms of tube links. Why is that? In the main: (1) The stasis caused by the Royal Commission on London Traffic that sat from 1903 to 1905. (2) The pre-First World War "credit crunch" which made it impossible to borrow capital for new lines. (3) The First World War suspension of infrastructure investment. (4) The electrification of Southern Railway suburban lines.
  16. > I could never understand why they didn't just consider bringing the Bakerloo line above ground at E&C and link it to the overground line to take it to Camberwell and beyond. The gradient would be an interesting engineering problem.
  17. Everyone's lost the ~plot~ here.
  18. > Pre or post-WW1? Plans cancelled in 1902. Happy to educate.
  19. The original plan was for the East London, City & Peckham Railway to terminate with a station in East Dulwich Road. Next station North would have been Sternhall Lane.
  20. Now we know something really is seriously wrong.
  21. > Camberwell doesn't have a station It does, but it is temporarily closed, awaiting better times. Been waiting since 1916.
  22. > suppose it's hard to imagine that ED didn't have a train service on Sundays before the early 1990s Perhaps because it's not true? Passenger Services Timetable 16th September 1957 Table 65 East Dulwich to London Bridge SUNDAY 07:46 08:08 08:26 08:38 08:46 08:56 09:08 09:16 09:26 and so on to 23:52
  23. > My sense is there was an 'ED 2.0' wave that started around the Palmerston regeneration and ended with foxtons/white stuff moving in. And ED 3.0 is?
  24. > Luther Van Dross said 'If you can't be with the one you love then love the one your with.' I'm old enough and young enough to think that was Stephen Stills.
