I hope everyone watches this on itv and itvx. We think we have royal mail problems on East Dulwich but this drama and it's fellow documentary highlights one of the biggest miscarriages of justice in recent years. The lives of many postmasters and their families were ruined by the arrogance of those in charge at Post Office and their attempts to cover up their faulty new IT system. The compensation process for those who are still alive is an over complex sham to avoid properly compensating those that were hurt by this scandalous miscarriage of justice (if true compensation is even truly possible). Those in power at the post office and the IT company should hang their heads in shame and they and the government should be doing everything they can to try to properly compensate the poor victims of this scandal. If you are not already aware of this scandal do watch it on ITV and weep.

My understanding is you get a year of comparison costs to see whether you pay less metered or unmetered and during that year you have a choice whether to switch or not but after the one year period you will be switched to metered bills whether you want to or not. When meters were installed here it took about three months before they were activated.

I've taken paint to the recycling centre in old Kent road in the last year. They have a stack of cans and tubs which I believe you can take away as well if you ask so that it actually gets used up. Worth a visit.

Beware: Parking inspectors everywhere

The issue of a fine is automated but if you appeal, esp if the photo they provide shows you avoiding an emergency vehicle, the fine will be cancelled. That's what happened to me driving South on Grove Vale by the petrol station as there is a bus lane camera just before the garage so don't pull across the bus lane as you approach the roundabout. -
What is this thread actually about? 🤔

The roots of the London Plane trees are causing issues in Lordship Lane as they grow bigger and bigger. Lovely trees when in the right place but these trees are young and still have a lot of growing today. It was a bad choice of tree for position along the shopping part of lordship lane when Southwark decided to plant them. It is extremely difficult to get Southwark to maintain these trees eg prune them to a reasonable size on a regular basis so the branches don't tap on flats' windows and rooves; remove them when they cause structural problems such as growing through and damaging an external water pipe (yes that happened) and causing subsidence and sinking of areas of pavements. I would love to see a proper schedule of maintenance carried out on the plane trees and of the the sinking and uplifting pavements around them but I'm not holding my breath. The London planes still have a lot of growing to do so I foresee more issues for pavements, shops and flats in the coming years.

The original partners retired and sold the building on and the practice to a new group of solicitors. The buyers sold on the building and the solicitors moved to other practices. It's a real shame as the old practice was v good imo and as with so many things now, dealing with solicitors has become something you do online or on the phone with no long term relationship with any of them. A bit like how general practice has gone. No relationship, just deal with the task/problem at hand and move on.

I'm guessing that the idea is that the ward with previous very vocal opposition will feel such pressure (once all the surrounding streets have CPZ and parkers move from the CPZ to the next door streets with free parking) that the previous opposing CPZ residents will change from opposing it to wanting it and it will be introduced without further bother to Southwark. Job done!

It is the case that hospitals generally do not accept direct referrals for CT scans from GPs. The GP has to refer to a hospital specialist who can then request any further imaging that might be needed. It's not just about cost, there are other factors involved.

Where you've incurred specific expenses as a result of delayed post I wonder about taking the post office to the small claims court. The first step in the process is to write out your claim with evidence of losses including your time spent in dealing with the post office and your claim and send it to royal mail. Perhaps sending it to the CEOs office might focus the minds. This part is free. If they don't settle your claim you pay a fee to submit to the court if you want to. You can look up the process online. If they started receiving lots of court claims maybe they'd pay attention or maybe I'm just fooling myself!! It worked for me in a complaint against M&S in the past.

Ziffit.com is good for getting rid of old books. You get paid a very small amount for any book that they accept (you scan the ISBN in the app and they tell you if they'll accept it) and you box up a pile of accepted books and they come and collect from your house. So although not for charity, it is a useful way to clear out alot of saleable books without having to cart lots of heavy boxes to the shops.

The Beast of Turin is ulez exempt and that has flames coming out of its engine when it drives into London but we digress as this thread is about CPZ

Hope we're not being led down another mistaken route like we were years ago when we were told to buy diesel cars to reduce CO2 emissions.🤔

Consider getting a structural engineers report to see exactly what the problem is before contacting your insurance company unless it's obvious you have as major problem in which case you have to go straight to your insurance company. Your insurance policy will indicate what subsidence cover you have and if there is a large excess. If you go to the insurance company for something that turns out to be a minor problem you could have sorted with a builder, your insurance can be blighted in the future. Whether you can stay in your house all depends on how bad the problem is and what needs doing to repair it.

Yes that my first question. Answer was - yes borough wide CPZ is going to happen

The Dulwich village zone meeting at the library was a bit of a shambles. These are question and answer sessions with about six tables with a Councillor at each table and local residents squeezing around a table wherever they can and then talking to the one councillor you happen to have on your table who then will feed back to the council panel in charge. It's not an open council meeting by way of consultation. Feedback from that session is that the CPZ is coming borough wide. That is decided. The councillors say these sessions and the survey are about giving residents some input into the final design in each zone, so days of operation.. weekdays only or 7/7 etc, hours of operation. Those living on zone boundary roads like lordship lane will get a permit for their side of the road but would have to pay to park on the other side! Go along and speak to the councillors and see more detail for your zone but be aware it seems to be a done deal.

But you can chip away at that argument too. There is a cost to maintaining a garden that keeps a green space available to wildlife, water drainage and fresh air that benefits the overall environment. If you pave over your drive (eg to avoid a parking cost) and install fake grass (to avoid any garden waste) you can avoid the cost of a garden waste bin but that's not good for the overall environment. General taxation to fund a range of services is a principle that a labour council would have once upheld but like many other things, it is beginning to be chipped away. I expect to see many more charges removed from general taxation and allocated to the individual as time goes on. Parking charges for CPZ in streets that have no issues with parking is just another personal tax.

I've noticed that a lot of council meetings have such poor sound on zoom and YouTube that I'm beginning to wonder if it's another deliberate act of the council to avoid proper scrutiny. If you can't hear it you can't comment on it.
-
The council already started down that route years ago by charging individually for garden waste collection.

I asked my local Councillor Andy Simmons if there had been a consultation regarding borough wide CPZ and when the decision had been made and he referred me to this document. I certainly have no recollection of borough wide CPZ being raised at all in the past and it's the sort of thing one would notice. So it would seem that there must have been very little publicity put out by Southwark over something that would obviously be controversial.
-
Apparently it was all in this document that comes up if you Google Southwark Movement Plan 2019 Not sure how extensive the consultation was.
