  1. I tried a service wash in Brockley and it was not good at all so then tried an online one following Jules-and-Boo's suggestion (thankyou). I tried Love2Laundry. It was more expensive than a local service wash but the duvets came back clean. So I will use again. They collect and drop off.
  2. Do get your MP and relevant councillors involved. The only winners from more high street gambling outlets are the owning companies and those receiving the rent. People that use these gambling shops are often those who don't have money to lose. The presence of so many gambling shops in a High St is a sign of a struggling high street and that is an issue for the local council and the MP. It should be much harder to gamble than it is now. Gambling advertising on TV and phones is particularly pernicious and I wish the laws on this had never been liberalised. Gambling is a really harmful addiction that, unlike drug and alcohol addiction, can go unseen until addicts have lost everything. Opening another gambling outlet is a big mistake. I'm sure you'll find alot of people in Sydenham that would help you oppose this. Just keep spreading the message. Good luck. Lewisham gives has guidance on making a representation against licence applications for alcohol entertainment licenses on its website but much of the information is transferable. https://lewisham.gov.uk/myservices/business/licences-and-street-trading/licences-issued-by-the-licensing-team/alcohol-and-entertainment-licences/licensing---guidance-on-making-a-representation
  3. Thanks for the advice. My hair is blue already.
  4. Seemed quite clever to me...just casually ask name and date of birth....and before you know it there's a dodgy company set up at your address. But glad, so far, others think it's legit.
  5. Amazon delivery driver asked me for my name and date of birth when he delivered a package. He said it was required as there was over 18 content in the package which actually contained a few magnets and a water filtration kit so not sure what was over 18 content! Just wondering if that was an attempt at identity theft, ie name, address and date of birth. I gave a false dob but we'll see if any dodgy invoices turn up. Has anyone else experienced this?
  6. Loved Poor Things. Weird but good.
  7. Where do people go to get bedding washed (ie that has a large load machine) while Wash and Dry is closed?
  8. Aladyinlondon.com is a legitimate account as is the link. She does a whole Instagram feed and, obviously, a website. May be "pseudo cute" but I have discovered, through her posts, quite a few hidden gems in London of which I was unaware despite having always lived in London and that's always a nice thing.

  10. Roshane did a great job of a plaster repair for me and a great job of a complex plastering and rendering of a friend's total house renovation. I'm very happy to recommend him. 07930 816 196 Roshane Simmonds
  11. When did the post office become Royal Mail? As part of the Postal Services Act 2000, the businesses of the Post Office were transferred in 2001 to a public limited company, Consignia plc, which was quickly renamed Royal Mail Holdings plc. The government became the sole shareholder in Royal Mail Holdings plc and its subsidiary Post Office Ltd. The two companies were part of the same group until 2012, when the Post Office was split out into a separate business. So they were one company when this scandal started and Adam Crozier, CEO during many years of the scandal and now ITV CEO is conspicuous by his absence in the drama doc. Mr Crozier was CEO of Royal Mail Group between 2003 and 2010, when the Post Office was part of it and subpostmasters were being pursued through the courts. Fujitsu have also come off lightly when it was their IT fault that caused the problem and it took years before anyone there said anything Remember that it's individuals within large organisations and government that make these decisions and choose not to own up and allow the wrong thing to happen. The individuals have the protection of the large organisation but it is individual people with power who choose to do the wrong thing and screw the little person.
  12. I hope everyone watches this on itv and itvx. We think we have royal mail problems on East Dulwich but this drama and it's fellow documentary highlights one of the biggest miscarriages of justice in recent years. The lives of many postmasters and their families were ruined by the arrogance of those in charge at Post Office and their attempts to cover up their faulty new IT system. The compensation process for those who are still alive is an over complex sham to avoid properly compensating those that were hurt by this scandalous miscarriage of justice (if true compensation is even truly possible). Those in power at the post office and the IT company should hang their heads in shame and they and the government should be doing everything they can to try to properly compensate the poor victims of this scandal. If you are not already aware of this scandal do watch it on ITV and weep.
  13. My understanding is you get a year of comparison costs to see whether you pay less metered or unmetered and during that year you have a choice whether to switch or not but after the one year period you will be switched to metered bills whether you want to or not. When meters were installed here it took about three months before they were activated.
  14. Worth a drive around esp anywhere with parking. I found mine in lordship lane estate car park. Take your spare key with you.
  15. I've taken paint to the recycling centre in old Kent road in the last year. They have a stack of cans and tubs which I believe you can take away as well if you ask so that it actually gets used up. Worth a visit.
  16. The issue of a fine is automated but if you appeal, esp if the photo they provide shows you avoiding an emergency vehicle, the fine will be cancelled. That's what happened to me driving South on Grove Vale by the petrol station as there is a bus lane camera just before the garage so don't pull across the bus lane as you approach the roundabout.
  17. What is this thread actually about? 🤔
  18. The roots of the London Plane trees are causing issues in Lordship Lane as they grow bigger and bigger. Lovely trees when in the right place but these trees are young and still have a lot of growing today. It was a bad choice of tree for position along the shopping part of lordship lane when Southwark decided to plant them. It is extremely difficult to get Southwark to maintain these trees eg prune them to a reasonable size on a regular basis so the branches don't tap on flats' windows and rooves; remove them when they cause structural problems such as growing through and damaging an external water pipe (yes that happened) and causing subsidence and sinking of areas of pavements. I would love to see a proper schedule of maintenance carried out on the plane trees and of the the sinking and uplifting pavements around them but I'm not holding my breath. The London planes still have a lot of growing to do so I foresee more issues for pavements, shops and flats in the coming years.
  19. The original partners retired and sold the building on and the practice to a new group of solicitors. The buyers sold on the building and the solicitors moved to other practices. It's a real shame as the old practice was v good imo and as with so many things now, dealing with solicitors has become something you do online or on the phone with no long term relationship with any of them. A bit like how general practice has gone. No relationship, just deal with the task/problem at hand and move on.

  21. I'm guessing that the idea is that the ward with previous very vocal opposition will feel such pressure (once all the surrounding streets have CPZ and parkers move from the CPZ to the next door streets with free parking) that the previous opposing CPZ residents will change from opposing it to wanting it and it will be introduced without further bother to Southwark. Job done!

  23. It is the case that hospitals generally do not accept direct referrals for CT scans from GPs. The GP has to refer to a hospital specialist who can then request any further imaging that might be needed. It's not just about cost, there are other factors involved.
  24. Where you've incurred specific expenses as a result of delayed post I wonder about taking the post office to the small claims court. The first step in the process is to write out your claim with evidence of losses including your time spent in dealing with the post office and your claim and send it to royal mail. Perhaps sending it to the CEOs office might focus the minds. This part is free. If they don't settle your claim you pay a fee to submit to the court if you want to. You can look up the process online. If they started receiving lots of court claims maybe they'd pay attention or maybe I'm just fooling myself!! It worked for me in a complaint against M&S in the past.
  25. Ziffit.com is good for getting rid of old books. You get paid a very small amount for any book that they accept (you scan the ISBN in the app and they tell you if they'll accept it) and you box up a pile of accepted books and they come and collect from your house. So although not for charity, it is a useful way to clear out alot of saleable books without having to cart lots of heavy boxes to the shops.
