  1. The source is Andy Simmons by email
  2. Councillor Andy Simmons says that the borough wide CPZ consultation and decision was made in 2019. Does anyone remember that happening. Have to say I don't recall any borough wide consultation on CPZ.
  3. Extended CPZ on streets that don't need them leads to more people paving over their front gardens in order to park their car off the road. This is bad for wildlife, rainwater soak away and therefore flooding and subsidence. It's a bad thing every time a front garden is paved over.
  4. Difference is motor vehicles are insured and aren't on the pavement. If you are injured by a bike whether legally on the road or illegally on the pavement there is no come back. If you cannot work for a prolonged period due to an injury caused by a bike hitting you on a pavement you cannot identify the person responsible if they cycle off and you cannot claim against insurance. You potentially lose your livelihood because of an individual's thoughtless and illegal behaviour. And yes that is talking from personal knowledge. Electric bikes on pavements are fast, heavy and can inflict significant damage if they knock you over. The least we can do is expect them not to be moving on the pavement. Same for pedal bikes.
  5. That's a very interesting article. Thanks for posting and thanks to James Dallaway for writing it and doing the engineering.
  6. "Poundland" Is there actually anything for a pound? Seems like their original USP is no longer valid. Just another shop.
  7. How about U3a in Dulwich? See if there's a group that interests you. https://u3asites.org.uk/dulwich/groups
  8. If you know who owns the flat you should tell them and if you can see which company is sending the parcels tell the owner and the owner can deal with it. It can be quite difficult to convince companies that an address is being used fraudulently and that they should stop sending stuff. But it is a problem when the invoices are linked to that address and go unpaid in terms of credit ratings, bailiffs etc so the flat owner definitely needs to know.
  9. I realise people don't often need a bank but there are times when they do. I tried to bank coins at the post office after a charity event and the post office person told me to spend the coins and do a bank transfer because they can only take £20 worth of one denomination. Ridiculous. I tried to sort out a joint account and had to take ID to a bank because of the age of the account holders. Third party access for an elderly person required face to face contact. The reason banks are withdrawing from high streets is because it is profitable to do so. The loss of Barclays has resulted in the loss of 5 cashpoints, 3 inside. I imagine robbery and attempted robbery is far more common in outside cash points. There continue to be services that require face to face contact in a bank and to not have one bank in a busy high street is a crying shame and a derogation of responsibility by big finance imo.
  10. Wait for them to call??
  11. If you're in the older age range, retired or semi retired there are bridge groups at U3a. https://u3asites.org.uk/dulwich/groups
  12. Oh yes I see. Oh to be quoted in The Sun. An accolade indeed for The Cat. Well remembered Dogkennelhillbilly It's a joke on the very first page of this thread, and the poster lives not in East Dulwich, but in...Australia! I think the other quote in the article is (cough) paraphrased at best. The journalist doesn't realise the concern isn't that it will knock out farmer shops, it's that it will affect Farmer's, a shop.
  13. Apologies for the error in my previous post. I put The Sun and journalism in the same sentence which, I think, might be an oxymoron!
  14. Ok, own up. Who was it that said this quoted in The Sun?? One fumed in an online forum: "How am I expected to push past all those tracksuits while I'm carrying a selection of cheeses from Mons (a local posh cheesemongers) not to mention the quince paste." "You know, there may be a few scraps outside all of a sudden" https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/21722594/we-dont-want-a-poundland-in-our-posh-neighbourhood/ A classic bit of Sun journalism 🤣
  15. Are you sure the building is not insured by the freeholder. It would be negligent and very risky for a freeholder to not have buildings insurance. If there was a fire and the house burnt down the freeholder would be liable. Usually the freeholder insures and then splits the cost between the leaseholders.
  16. Have a look at Bell House in Dulwich Village for dyslexia resources. https://www.bellhouse.co.uk/
  17. I came across this little snippet from The Sweeney filmed at the junction of Ryedale, Underhill Road and Honor Oak Mansions inside and out. There weren't many cars parked in Ryedale in 1974 compared to now.
  18. Wow, that's a good cat. Mine just lies around sleeping 🤣 Glad you found it.
  19. My understanding is that if you don't wish to have hiv screening you just need to cross out the test on the blood form and testing won't be done. It's your choice.
  20. It's worth reporting the potholes on this website because Southwark are then notified and can also put pressure on Thames Water to make a repair. Worth reporting any dangerous pothole. https://www.fillthathole.org.uk/
  21. Shame we couldn't have a bank. That would be really useful!
  22. At last, someone is making a fuss about this. Shame it had to be the Daily Express but at least one newspaper recognises this as an appalling failure of a public service.
  23. I send out several 2nd class items every day which are second class tracked. They are getting delivery quickly. Some even arrive next day, which is amazing. RM are prioritising tracked items as the sender can claim compensation in some cases after 10 working days. Things like Christmas cards have no priority whatsoever so are taking 3 to 4 weeks to get delivered. Plus a lot depends on the local delivery office. The Peckham D.O. is a disaster area. If it's important, send it tracked Not true. My tracked parcels took 2-3weeks to arrive. £5.65 for one book sent to me tracked first class but only as tracked at delivery. Tracking at 24/48hrs is even more expensive and we shouldn't have to pay that. Sending post out of SE22 doesn't seem to be a problem. It's the post coming into SE22. In my case all parcels were stuck in the Croydon sorting centre when I rang to enquire.
  24. If parcels are being prioritised why are tracked parcels not being delivered on time....one tracked parcel sent 28 November arrived on 22 Dec. One 24 hr tracked parcel sent 21 Dec still hasn't arrived. Royal mail are charging for a service they just can't deliver. I thought it was all about competing for the parcel delivery market but now I'm wondering if it's about a service so bad it collapses and royal mail can do a big property sell off and walk away.
