  1. Snappy snaps on Rye Lane were really good with my son when he was that little.
  2. Thanks for trying James. It's really not a great website and has followed the general UK.gov approach of making very basic information easier to find and ensuring detailed information is impossible to access.
  3. James. There is a thread (http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1809847) on the dangerous state of the toddler play structure in Goose Green playground. Could you raise this with officers please? Also what is going on with the council's website, the new 'stylish' design makes it almost impossible to find useful information if it isn't in the top five things the website designer thought I'd want to look for. For instance, I cannot for the life of me find a contact email (or webform) for the parks team to report the damaged play equipment.
  4. We have three simple pendants from Urban Cottage Industries (http://www.urbancottageindustries.com/made-for-you/simple-pendant-lights) with big squirrel cage bulbs in them. They're each of slightly different lengths so they spiral down towards the table. Simple and really effective.

It opened this week (card only and limited menu) and signs said a larger breakfast/lunch/dinner menu coming soon. I had a pastry and coffee this morning and it was really good. It only has bar stools/counters so probably wont be taking custom from Andersons & co but a great takeaway option.

  7. For negatives I could never find a cost effective option for sending them out. I bought a Epson v500 negative scanner and although it's really really time consuming it is very effective. It has IR scratch and dust removal that seems to work pretty well. I have a little air puffer to clean the negatives before I scan them and a light box to weed out the out of focus photos of hedges and flowers that my gran used to take to use up a roll! I've done about 3000 35mm and medium format negatives (20+ years of family photos) and it was a year long project. I still have a thousand 110s/16mm to do which is a project for this year.
  8. I think it depends where in ED you are. I'm near Goose Green and walk up to Peckham Rye. I can reliably do my front door to my office (in Marylebone) in 50 minutes which I don't find bad at all. Likewise I can get to the wharf in a little over 30 mins which is pretty good although the Jubilee line is crowded at Canada Water in the mornings. On weekends we mainly use buses (principally the 176) to get into town as they're more convenient than lugging a toddler up and down station stairs. If you're looking for other areas with decent-ish connections into the city or the wharf, the Forrest Hill or Crystal Palace are options and both have nice spots on their high streets. Otherwise you'll be paying the high prices of SW London and potentially putting up with Waterloo which has its own share of problems.
  9. At that age we used a moba wrap, we moved onto a Tula with an infant insert when he was 6 months or so. I loved the Moba and thought out son felt really snug and secure in it. My wife never got the hang of it though.
  10. It might be a little bit too old for her, but have you looked at the micro:bit (http://microbit.org/about/)? Cheap and mac compatible.
  11. Adys Road and Maxted were really bad this week. I agree I wish people were more considerate.
  12. Up and down like a yo-yo today in SE15
  13. I got a pathetic email from Harman trying to justifying voting in favour of Article 50. It basically boiled down to Labour needs votes in the North so I have to vote in favour even though I think it's a really bad idea. Hopefully people will work to deselect Harman and/or unseat Labour in Camberwell and Peckham next election.
  14. One thing that Virgin seem to have a huge problem with is the reliability of their DNS servers (in layman's terms the phone book of the internet). It's fairly trivial to switch your DNS server to point at GoogleDNS or OpenDNS. I've found that this improves the reliability of my broadband considerably. By way of illustration one of my machines at home has been unable to access the internet for a couple of days, after wasting a couple of hours troubleshooting I noticed it was still using the router for DNS, quick setting change and everything's happy again.
  15. Rugs on the floor should deaden the noise as would you ripping up the floor and installing carpet. Not wearing shoes indoors etc would also help. However if they really want to get decent noise reduction they'll need to create an air gap between your floor and their ceiling and install some acoustic material. The best way to do this is by them lowering their ceilings not by anything you can do.
  16. We are at Little Unicorns in Canary Wharf and those seem more punitive than their terms. They do have two months notice to leave, but to be honest since it would take a good 4-6 weeks to arrange alternative childcare I'm not super worried about that. I am not a lawyer but I suspect that them demanding 2-month's fees in lieu of notice after kicking out your kid would be unenforceable under the Consumer Rights Act. My biggest concern would about giving them an unsecured interest free loan of ?700 for 3-4 years! It might be worth speaking to Trading Standards or Citizen's Advice to get their view.

  18. Exactly, 90% of the time I went to drop off clothes the bins were full with bags of overspill dotted around the place.I'm not surprised Sainsbury's got fed up with their carpark being scattered with waste.
  19. Try "No Bad Kids" by Janet Lansbury.
  20. We want witha Bugaboo Bee as a good compromise between portability and being usable from day zero. Our hope had been to have that as our only pushchair ever, but the nursery only had storage for umbrella strollers so we have a lightweight one of those too. PM me if you want more thoughts.
  21. John Lewis (underwriten by Royal Sun I think) insure us, but we're towards Peckham Rye so perhaps it's not so much cuteness of an issue here.
  22. I think you're going to have to foot the bill for a surveyor. However if you just agree to use whichever surveyor they nominate you can at least keep your costs down by only having to pay for one.
  23. We always take 1 nappy per hour of travel, plus a full pack of wet wipes. The other things to carry on are a couple of changes of comfortable clothes (babygrows, tracksuit trousers NOT jeans) and some basic medicines (sachets of calpol etc). We took to checking the stroller at the main check-in counter and just using a carrier through the airport; packing up the stroller at the gate was always a hassle especially when juggling a baby. Some airports (e.g. Dubai) do have 'courtesy buggies' when you get off the plane.
  24. We've been going to Tenerife since our son was 9 months old. It's a good balance of being far enough south you're guaranteed good weather but still a manageable flight time with a baby. We stay at Baobab Suites in Costa Adele, full cooking facilities in the suites as well as a couple of restaurants on site and room service. We also find having a separate bedroom and living area means you don't need to go to sleep when your baby does.
  25. My vote would be for a Roku stick as it supports the widest range of service and is cheap. I have two at home and have no complaints.
