  1. We bought a gro-clock and found that to an this has calmed down the night time visits from our 3 year old. It's not perfect but it helps provide a clear way of communicating that it's night time and he should be in his bed. Also does she still nap during the day? We found that stopping the afternoon nap around three years old gave better sleep at night.
  2. He does and I greatly appreciate the work he does. In my mind the problem is that Southwark council are so opaque and inaccessible that contacting councillors over fairly trivial issues is the only way to get a timely response.
  3. James - Thanks, the number on https://forms.southwark.gov.uk/ShowForm.asp?fm_fid=276&np=1 (Tel: 020 7525 2000 (24 hours)) just sends you to a recorded message saying the line is closed and open during business hours. Northeastview - It's about two feet deep and seems to have undermined about three paving slabs, one of which has broken and half fallen into the hole. It's not going to swallow a house, but big enough for someone to step into and break a leg.
  4. James I know this is a bit off your patch, but there is a really dangerous broken pavement (and sinkhole) outside 42 Maxted Rd. I?ve reported on the Southwark streets website but I don?t know if that gets looked at on the weekend. On a more general point the Southwark website gives a ?24 hr? number but when you phone it there?s a recording stating it?s only open office hours. Could you ask to have the site updated please?

My observation is that the bike lane goes green followed by the car lane. Of course cyclists who move to the front of traffic wont see the bike lane green.
  6. I went through last night. Although I appreciate the change in priority between Calton Av and Court Lane, I suspect there will be plenty of accidents as the priority is a bit counter-intuitive. Coming the other direction (Tourney to Calton) is confusing and has turned it into a left turn followed by a right turn; at a minimum some no-entry signs or road markings are needed. I also noticed that the natural place for cycles to stop coming out of Calton (ahead of the stop line) means that they can't see the priority signal for cycles, even behind the stop line the priority light isn't exactly obvious.
  7. An 8:40 is really only useful if your office is right by London Bridge, 7:40 allows you to get to other parts of London.
  8. A friend of mine (who volunteers in North London) was saying that Crisis tend to be oversubscribed for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing day, but the setup day (tomorrow) and the rest of Christmas week tend to be less popular for volunteers.
  9. Started showing as an area fault at 8:30ish and service restored to our house at 9:15. Annoyed that I had to waste 20 minutes on the phone doing diagnostics to get a technician booked even though I knew it was an area fault. I?ve raised a complaint for all the good it?ll do.
  10. It?s out again in Adys Rd as of 1am.
  11. I just wanted to say these were great (despite the weather) and our son really enjoyed himself.
  12. Mine was up and down on Thursday with a brief outage on Wednesday too.
  13. As I understand it lists are drawn up entirely on the entrance criteria for each school, the school doesn't know (or care) where you placed them on the preference. One thing we were told (at Belham) is that if you're not in the top 1 or 2 places on the waiting list you are extremely unlikely to get in through the waiting list.
  14. Given we get one of these every month or so on the corner of Adys and Nutbrook I have a great deal less sympathy. This means she was cutting the corner and not paying much attention to where she was turning. She was also going quickly enough to drive up the bollard and wedge herself on it. It may be that the roadwork sign obscured her view, but she should have been exercising extra caution in that case. As drivers I'm sure we've all had moments where we've been careless and most of the time we get away with it, but there could have been a child on that pavement waiting to cross as she cut that corner.

  16. James - Thanks, I agree. Also speed humps massively increase the noise and pollution from the traffic from the braking, accelerating and banging over the humps. Is there any chance you could push officers to adopt a more sensible approach? It would be nice if the Lane Ward councillors were engaged on this topic in any way, have you spoken to them about this?
  17. E2 - Thanks so much. What do you think of the new head? We were a bit underwhelmed at the open morning. Also how 'churchy' is it? I went to a CofE primary but I never recall prayer trees in every classroom. It seems to be much more seriously Christian than the nominally Church schools I remember, but perhaps I'm over reacting.

Be a bit careful with "free" insurance, often it's not worth the money you pay for it due to exclusions etc. That said, also check your home insurance, on mine (John Lewis) phones are covered on our personal items cover in and outside of the house.
  19. Interesting meeting at All Saints last night. Although not very well organised and far too few council employees for the number of attendees. Lots of agitated cyclists and fairly annoyed residents giving very "direct" feedback to a small number of junior council employees who could simply say "we'll look at that" or "I think this was meant to do X". It's also clear that this is a cycle scheme for those crossing the borough with pedestrian and residential "improvements" tacked on as an afterthought. As a newer (3 yrs) resident I learned a lot from residents who have been having these same battles with the council about rat runs for 25+ years. What was most disappointing is the lack of participation from the Lane Ward Councillors and the absence of anyone senior in the council who was taking ownership and justifying the scheme from first principals.
  20. The residential roads around here have precious little parking already and losing dozens of spaces is a real problem. Also my anecdotal experience is that cars seems to drive faster now they have "better visibility" and we have more large vehicles trying to negotiate tight residential roads than we did before. This is a token action aimed at forcing residents into a CPZ rather than any attempt to improve road safety or reduce the traffic problem from rat running.
  21. The proposed new double yellows are not just at the junction (these are already in place) but also opposite t-junctions presumably to allow better traffic flow and let bigger vehicles navigate the tight corners on these rat runs. This is why I think it?s worse than useless, it will actually encourage rat running.
  22. Sunglasses- I agree with you that this is what should happen. However I don?t see anything in the scheme that will actually achieve this (eg road closures, width limits etc) all that is happening is we?re losing a lot of parking and getting more speed humps. For residents of Adys I fear this makes things worse not better.

If any of our Councillors in the Lane ward ever engaged with their constituents I'd be more persuaded by this argument.
  24. This is fantastic news. It looks like Southwark have listened to those affected by the closure and will reopen the bridge in March.
