James - Thanks, I agree. Also speed humps massively increase the noise and pollution from the traffic from the braking, accelerating and banging over the humps. Is there any chance you could push officers to adopt a more sensible approach? It would be nice if the Lane Ward councillors were engaged on this topic in any way, have you spoken to them about this?

E2 - Thanks so much. What do you think of the new head? We were a bit underwhelmed at the open morning. Also how 'churchy' is it? I went to a CofE primary but I never recall prayer trees in every classroom. It seems to be much more seriously Christian than the nominally Church schools I remember, but perhaps I'm over reacting.

Be a bit careful with "free" insurance, often it's not worth the money you pay for it due to exclusions etc. That said, also check your home insurance, on mine (John Lewis) phones are covered on our personal items cover in and outside of the house. -
Interesting meeting at All Saints last night. Although not very well organised and far too few council employees for the number of attendees. Lots of agitated cyclists and fairly annoyed residents giving very "direct" feedback to a small number of junior council employees who could simply say "we'll look at that" or "I think this was meant to do X". It's also clear that this is a cycle scheme for those crossing the borough with pedestrian and residential "improvements" tacked on as an afterthought. As a newer (3 yrs) resident I learned a lot from residents who have been having these same battles with the council about rat runs for 25+ years. What was most disappointing is the lack of participation from the Lane Ward Councillors and the absence of anyone senior in the council who was taking ownership and justifying the scheme from first principals.

The residential roads around here have precious little parking already and losing dozens of spaces is a real problem. Also my anecdotal experience is that cars seems to drive faster now they have "better visibility" and we have more large vehicles trying to negotiate tight residential roads than we did before. This is a token action aimed at forcing residents into a CPZ rather than any attempt to improve road safety or reduce the traffic problem from rat running.
-
The proposed new double yellows are not just at the junction (these are already in place) but also opposite t-junctions presumably to allow better traffic flow and let bigger vehicles navigate the tight corners on these rat runs. This is why I think it?s worse than useless, it will actually encourage rat running.

Sunglasses- I agree with you that this is what should happen. However I don?t see anything in the scheme that will actually achieve this (eg road closures, width limits etc) all that is happening is we?re losing a lot of parking and getting more speed humps. For residents of Adys I fear this makes things worse not better.

If any of our Councillors in the Lane ward ever engaged with their constituents I'd be more persuaded by this argument.

Update on Camberwell Grove bridge consultation
alex_b replied to macutd's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This is fantastic news. It looks like Southwark have listened to those affected by the closure and will reopen the bridge in March. -
I live in one of the affected roads and had heard nothing about this. The planned reduction in parking will make it impossible for local residents to park, it's already bad enough with the stupid double yellows at every corner. It also appears to do nothing about the use of this "spine" as a rat-run, which is what many of us residents actually care about. Many of the "improved sightlines" will likely increase speeds and make things worse. My take is this is the wrong solution to the wrong problem.

I went in there recently and asked for a box of lasagna sheets (M&S had sold out) and the guy working there didn't even know what it was! It's not exactly a niche item. The store always seems like it's deliberately trying to go out of business. -
You're quite right, I should have looked more carefully. I don't know why it seems so much busier in the sky here. lavelle72 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Quite loud over ED at 4.26 this morning. Would > that not be curfew time? Clearly not Doesn't curfew only apply to landings? I think they stack the planes over SE London waiting for the curfew which is why we get some many planes so early in the morning. I don't ever recall it being so constantly disruptive in Twickenham.

We used Schuco for our bifold doors and glass roof side return (plus a skylight in the loft). We think they're great and can't imagine having sliding doors instead. Our builder used bi-fold door company for the folding doors, they were terrible and took three attempts to fit them correctly. We used OM double glazing for the roof and they were brilliant. There is another thread worth reading here http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,1867830. PM Me if you want any more details of would like to have a look at what we did.

We have a Miele induction (6 zone) and it's fantastic. We got the one with a high power zone to allow high temperature cooking (e.g. stir fries). It heats up really quickly, doesn't stay hot (important for us with a young child) and it's much easier to clear up spills than our old gas hob. The one downside with the Miele is I find the touch controls a bit temperamental but my wife seems to have more luck with them. We went back and forth over a 4 zone with a side gas wok burner or a six zone induction but went with the induction in the end and it has been fine. Our kitchen person suggested we get a framed version (silver trim round the outside) rather than the flush fit. This makes it much easier get a good finish on the worktop and you don't get bits of food lodged like fatcats mentioned. It also contains spills making cleanups easier. Our pans were already induction compatible with the exception of our old big soup pan, use a magnet on the bottom to test them.

Billy just came by to fit three new radiator valves and service our system. Fantastic work and reasonable rates. Billy is absolutely brilliant and everyone should use him. -
I'd chose the one nearest to PR station. The different train options make a huge difference especially when strikes or engineering works are happening.

I wonder whether with the ongoing problems with Southern people are parking nearer Peckham Rye to take alternate trains into London. The extra double yellows haven?t helped either.

Does your definition of "vicinity of the bridge" include those of us around Bellenden Road who have suffered a huge rise in traffic since the closure? -

You suspect the principal cause was gentrification. I'd suggest that it might also have something to do with a declining demand for newsagents, two similar stores within 2 minutes walk and a Tesco Metros a few minutes further. I'm sure the increased affluence in the area has pushed up rates (because freehold values have risen) but I doubt that's the only cause of the closure. As for the new shops, I can't think of any shops on Bellenden with restricted opening hours. There was/is a fire shop off Lordship Lane with short opening hours, but that's because he does the fireplace fitting during the week. If shops really are opening with short hours and high rents then going bust, eventually people will stop trying and rents will fall again. But again I don't see any evidence of that in Bellenden, care to name any specifics?

In the West Country where I'm originally from it's about three generations even if you only move from the next village over! 'Those London types' are never really from round 'ere. More seriously it is a reasonable question, especially as London is so big that it's hard to quantify what makes someone an incomer.
