  1. A friend has fostered and adopted through Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare (https://www.hershamhounds.org.uk/). They?re an excellent charity.
  2. Welcome to the neighbourhood. Magna at St John?s and St Clements on Adys Rd is good (our 7 year old likes it).

Or they could pay to dispose of commercial waste like legitimate tradespeople do. Trying to blame Southwark for not subsidising their business to justify anti-social and criminal behaviour is a terrible excuse. I hope whoever your ?friend? is gets caught and prosecuted.
  4. Brendon from Fitzrovia decorating is great. They?ve painted our house interior and exterior over the years. M: 07469 171007 E: [email protected]
  5. Ok I think I?ve found TheCat?s source. It?s from the NI Agricultural Committee?s evidence in March (http://aims.niassembly.gov.uk/officialreport/minutesofevidencereport.aspx?AgendaId=25634&eveID=12928) and I?ve quoted the relevant section below. In essence it?s 20% of all documentary checks on a specific form of declaration (not all checks carried out at the EU border). The reason for this is pretty obvious, the Irish Sea is the only part of the EUs customs border across which people are trying to run an integrated retail supply chain for animal products. Erecting a customs border is literally what you voted for - what did you think would happen? Of course it isn?t actually the EU carrying out those checks, it?s the Northern Irish Civil Service following a UK law implementing an agreement between the EU and the UK government that ?got Brexit done?. Should the Northern Irish civil servants simply not check the paperwork the UK government agreed they?d check? What about when I next fly to Australia can I take a suitcase full of cured meat and cheese and if stopped just tell them TheCat said to stop acting in bad faith? Relevant section from the evidence that I could see: _The unit that we focus on for analysis is the common health entry document (CHED). You will hear us talking about CHEDs and, sometimes, we talk about export health certificates (EHCs). Those are broadly similar. There are differences and, again, we can talk you through those. From 4 January 2021 to 28 February 2021, some 57,486 freight units travelled through Northern Ireland points of entry from GB ports. On average, a quarter of those were carrying SPS goods. Of those SPS freight units, 71% were retail, so, to give you a sense of it, within SPS, the majority is retail. From 1 January 2021 to 28 February 2021, some 13,629 documentary checks were completed on those CHEDs by DAERA staff. That is an important figure. That has increased consistently from week 1, when just over 1,114 checks were completed in a week. In the most recent week's figures, the comparable number was 1,938, around 2,000 checks. That demonstrates a very significant improvement in compliance by the industry and, equally, the hard work of the DAERA team, which has been actively helping people who are transporting food into Northern Ireland to comply with the requirements as far as they possibly can. Some 92% of common health entry documents are for products of animal origin, or so-called CHED-P documents. It is worth saying that the scale of documentary checks is huge by any standards. By way of illustration, our population is under 0?5% of that across the European Union, yet the documentary checks, according to the systems that have been completed so far, would represent one fifth of the equivalent documentation right across the EU. This reflects the fact that we are dealing with a domestic food distribution system, and not bulk movements of international trade commodities. What is clear is that we are handling a burden of work that is stretching us to the limit and which can only get less sustainable as we move beyond the grace periods ? again, depending on what happens ? particularly those with regard to retail consignments. That is because, if you think about it, that is where the majority of the CHEDs will come from._

Do you have details to back that up? How is that percentage of ?checks? being determined, how is that percentage of trade being calculated?

It was definitely there in June. I run past there very regularly and it was one of the reasons I was surprised people were claiming the signage was inadequate.
  8. Harradines are great, we?ve used them a few times as have a number of our friends.
  9. When we did it (which was around 3 years ago) we used the travel clinic in Canary Wharf as we couldn?t find anyone locally.

I was thinking specifically of Patel and other members of the Tory front bench. I don?t think they?re racist per se, but I do think they benefit from playing to a base who are actively racist. It was also framed in the context of the right wing culture warriors who I think if not racist are at best indifferent to the racist effects of clamping down on talking critically about our history.
  11. I think even talking about it as ?taking the knee? is framing it in the language of the right wing culture warriors who if not racist are at least racist adjacent. Kneeling or sitting in protest has a long long tradition far before BLM or CRT or even Marxism. Kapernick seems to have talked about kneeling as a mark of respect (as in soldiers kneeling at graves) and protest to be distinct from just sitting out the anthem. ?Taking A knee? has historic use in the US in the sense of kneeing as a sign of respectful remembrance going back to at least the 60s. The use of ?taking THE knee? being more dominant seems to be a UK media thing that has a more Game of Thrones submissive context to it.

Oh I agree I think that spirit was great when it was new, but going from "30 years of hurt" to "55 years of hurt" does rather take the shine off. As JohnL implies it's the the shift to a very bombastic "it's coming home" away from the hopeful "never stopped us dreaming" original irks me.
  14. As a citizen I find it deeply weird. It?s a 25 year old song which only serves to remind everyone how long we?ve underperformed for. Still could be worse, it could have been ?Vindaloo? being trotted out instead.
  15. We bought a little free standing sink unit, a couple of cheap tables and a small induction hob from IKEA. Added a decent combi microwave/oven. That served us well for 5 months.
  16. Householdresponse.com is definitely genuine and is how most councils manage their electoral roll these days. See the relevant Southwark webpage https://www.southwark.gov.uk/council-and-democracy/voting-and-elections/annual-electoral-canvass-2021. I agree that the way it has been communicated isn?t good practice.
  17. If you connect your TV to your router (either via Ethernet or WiFi) then this will not give you broadcast TV channels. However if your TV supports apps (which if I has an Ethernet connection it probably will) then you can install iPlayer, ITV player and All 4 and just watch via those apps. That?s what we do with our TV as our aerial is disconnected.
  18. I saw a Jay in Sydenham Woods yesterday.
  19. Herne Hill Harriers and Kent AC both have Juniors sections with contacts on their website. Most clubs are very welcoming of new runners.
  20. She may find the calculators on Contractor Calculator helpful for working out her rate based on advertised full time salaries. Calling a couple of recruiters would be a good way of understanding typical rates.
  21. I can?t find the worked example for the Israel one but it is correct. This Guardian article covers similar ground https://www.theguardian.com/theobserver/commentisfree/2021/jun/27/why-most-people-who-now-die-with-covid-have-been-vaccinated.
  22. Even for most honest people a lot of the statistics are non intuitive. Take the headlines that 50% of Delta variant cases in Israel are from fully vaccinated people. This sounds bad but is exactly what you?d expect with 85% of the adult population vaccinated and a 90% is vaccine efficiency.
  23. hammerman Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Why would you really hope you could move the date > sooner? Just be thankful that you have had your > first jab. Because having two doses is massively more effective than only having one and the faster we get widespread vaccine coverage the fewer people die. Also because it?s government policy to bring over 40s doses forward from 12 weeks to 8 weeks. Why wouldn?t you really hope to have a potentially lifesaving treatment as soon as possible?
  24. Oh come on, comparing the council to Nazi Germany is deeply offensive and also completely ridiculous. The council has also been engaging local schools on environmental topics for as long as I can remember. There were kid drawn banners outside Goose Green school for a long time and anti-idiling posters outside most of the schools in the area.

I think it does make a difference for a few reasons. First the hypocrisy, yes Fergusson was across town in a lockdown, but Hancock demanded his resignation and prosecution He also explicitly told people not to hug family members two days before that photo was taken. Second and more importantly is the use of public funds, he used our money to pay her and appears to have also given her brother a huge PPE contract. Finally his answer to any question (e.g. over the Cummings testimony) has been I?ve been 100% focused on our NHS. This is clearly a lie because at least some of his time was spent employing his girlfriend so they could have fun times in the office.
