  1. We are hanging winter curtains which have thermal lining (you can buy it separately and just fix it on). We're going to cover some of the windows which are drafty or just cold - you can get film to insulate them with - I might get thermal blinds for some as they are really effective - haven't really spent a lot of time looking at options yet. It will be hot water bottles, blankets, extra layers and quicker showers. Heating will be on but low to stop the issues with the house (damp etc). I've read that having the house at a regular temperature is better than having blasts of central heating for shorter periods - although happy if anyone has a view.
  2. It?s been there for much longer than two weeks. No sign of any workmen. I?d knock on doors if it bothered me.
  3. There?s a thread on gails.
  4. DV has really gone downhill in my opinion. Gails is dreadful.
  5. I'd say the crimes against women are different in nature and are reported differently. It's less often that men are sexually assaulted/ raped/ randomly physically attacked by a stranger. If the OP can find details of similar crimes against men / women we can then compare the reporting of them and understand why they think there is a disparity
  6. we've had ridgebacks and they are not an aggressive breed - they don't need to be. Do you have a description of the owner? What is the process for getting crimes followed up? there seem to be a number of incidents but nothing ever happens to the owners.
  7. Ridgebacks are not usually aggressive dogs, there are not many of them around here so should be easy to spot the owner/ dog. What did she look like (owner)? Sorry to hear this and hope your dog makes a quick recovery.

  9. well said.
  10. that's great news. TFL tried to take over the London Rail a while ago
  11. Are you challenging that people would need to drive to the doctor? That's not comparing similar things. If you want a comparison, it would be the Charter East school, which was supposed to not contribute as pupils were expected to walk or take the bus. IN reality, that's not the case and traffic has increased. We can realistically expect the same with a large nursery. The question is - do we want more traffic?
  12. what's your personal interest in the nursery, northernmonkey? Traffic is already at a standstill, pollution is already too high. There is no way that the nursery will be car free and will not contribute to increased traffic and pollution
  13. I totally agree with the objections. The building was left to the community and it should be used as such. There are so many very valid points against it. Traffic is a hot topic anyway with pollution and road closures - it is a great and optimistic view to think that people would walk - they don't walk to school so why be that naive? It's ridiculous to say that any use is better than no use. You should be interested in what it is used for.
  14. Au Ciel is good. Some people just like what's in front of them, especially if it looks posh - regardless of quality.
  15. I can't eat anything from Gail's since I saw flies crawling over the food. Make me feel sick just walking past it.
  16. Put a sign on the bench that says "DANGER - do not sit here - bench needs repair" and put tape all over it - while you continue with the more sensible advice above, for a longer term solution.
  17. The problem lies with us and our lifestyle choices which we will cling to as tightly as possible
  18. Consultants are often used to reduce risk (ie. "that epic failure was the result of us following advice from consultants") - rather than the potential risk of sacking someone senior
  19. Has anyone submitted an FOI? They have two weeks to respond.
  20. simple really. If you love the cafe and are a customer, think about the pedestrians and make sure you are not blocking their way.
  21. Too early and if I?m not busy or working will usually have a snooze in the afternoon.
  22. Not all dogs that bark are unhappy but just badly trained and with inconsiderate owners. We have one on EDGrove/ Melbourne grove corner. And one on Melbourne grove itself. I?ve yelled at the owners a few times and they seem to be left outside less. Find out who it is and leave a note saying how concerned / irritated you are. Keep a log, report to council.
  23. I know! They are always open and we assumed the same. Great that the staff get to enjoy Easter in the sunshine. Tesco near Peckham rye is open
