  1. It went well! Too smoothly perhaps? Everyone happy, midly hungover this morning but all good. They even left me a G&T!!!! Best food options were veggie pizzas, olives, crisps and bananas (!). Alcohol was vodka, glitter schnapps and fruit cider. Only damage was odd bit of pizza on the wall......
  2. thanks all - lots of soft drinks, crisps and dips, pizza, sausage rolls - like the bread and cheese suggestion :-) I think I have 15 coming.
  3. I'm looking for ways to mitigate the effect of the expected over consumption of alcohol and want suggestions of food they are likely to eat (without having to re-heat etc.). I haven't hosted a teen party before but do realise food needs to be subtle but available. I'm more than happy to get a flow of deliveries/ heve an account with the pizza place but just want good ideas from successful hosts out there please!
  4. Clappy J? Sounds like someone's picked up something nasty
  5. This is the worst singing in any advert ever - Oh just sooooooo bad. Just how could it possibly happen? It irritates badly - it could be that she has such a shallow voice - or that it's sacrilege of a funk/soul classic zenoria65 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Breathy voiced girl singing Chaka Khan's classic > "Ain't Nobody" for some random holiday > company.... > > ED209 Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > There's a certain type of song that has become > > really popular in advertising that I call the > John > > Lewis cover song. > > > > It's generally a young lady singing a slow soft > > ethereal cover version. > > > > Current examples are "Stand by Me" in a Nescafe > > ad. 7. it's not a moot point at all - there are many companies that do not use fur - and have stopped using fur altogether - and they should be more of an inspiration - Gucci, Stella McCartney, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein - the list goes on and is getting bigger. Those that do are diminishing. I also would hope more people make informed and ethical choices.
  8. It's difficult - he's refusing the structured help and support he needs and is putting himself in the situation people want to save him from. He doesn't actually want to be saved. It's just prolonging a situation which is only getting worse. His drinking is not going to get any better. As the weather improves it will become more bearable, but what about five winters from now? It would be more helpful if everybody who gave him something told him he needed to accept the support that is offered to him. Maybe it will sink in. It's unlikely he will stop drinking and set up a 'normal' life but it doesn't sound like this is heading in any positive direction at all.

be tidy with your packing - if you start putting random things in boxes you will take forever to get organised (and it takes linger to pack than you think!)
  10. It can't go unsaid - it is still Christmas. I was having a mooch about the chocolate aisle and low and behold.....little spring Easter chicks.
  11. with the population increase predictions in the millions, where do you want people to live?
  12. did you not ask them - or your doctor - where you could go?

  15. you did most of it, so well done you! It is hard - you have to find something to fill the time - it's better though. It's so easy to just drink to fill the time/ evenings. You're going to have to be creative as you will have hours to yourself you didn't have before. Is there anything you dream about doing? Well, now's the time to think about it even more. As you've suggested, find a friend and do a shared activity. Do you know, the gym on Crystal Palace Rd is free for Southwark residents? you could try that! It may not be easy and you may have to force yourself at first, but get a good playlist and some headphones and you'll be fine. The change in lifestyle is surmountable and you will feel fab :-)
  16. thanks Natty. I wish. Making people happy is a life goal I have. Life is hard and we're not kind enough to ourselves or each other. I'm not kind enough to myself. Maybe that should be my resolution this year.
  17. That's not nice to hear JohnL - you've had a pretty rough time - hope you're ok? I suppose, if I'm completely honest - I love my family but the schedule - do this, then and this next and then this and this and this. ...I would love to just go away for Christmas and New Year - just away completely - and take everyone with me. A nice ten star hotel on an island somewhere hot (but not too hot, my nan won't like it). The pressure to make sure everyone is happy is unbelievable. It's like we all have a schedule to follow and can't just do our own thing. My sister cooks for around 15 people and does so well, I would love her to just chill. Maybe I should hire a chef one year, and waiters. I do - however - absolutely LOVE the week between Christmas and New Years Eve. It's as if time stops and anything goes. Can't quite get my head around the fact I've got a 9am meeting with the boss tomorrow. but he's super fab, maybe we'll get coffee and it will be ok Happy 2018 everyone... and you Natty xx
  18. Free festivals are completely different - everyone is welcome - the petition is about the ticketed events in the park because they change the nature of the access to the park and the dynamics completely. I would love (more than pretty much anything) the summer to be filled with the free festivals we used to have. Maybe I'm getting old, but I love festivals and the randomness of all sorts of people being together. It's changed now it's all ticketed - not that it's not good, it still is, it's just different. And it has an impact that we want to be considered. I mean, who does NOT love Brockwell Park? It's super special and needs to be thought about when events are planned - no one is saying don't have parties, just beware of the impact. That's all.

  21. Natty, it will all be good. Have a good evening. Angie
  22. Not everyone likes the things children like. Pets are great for kids. Hubby should realise that. My hubby doesn't particularly like the cats and dragons. Let alone My Little Pony. But we compromise - he gets things we don't particularly like (like Sky Sports)
  23. I love Voodoo Ray pizza, can't decide on my favourite
