At present, for guys, there is the small outlet on Grove Vale that Jonboy mentions, the rack of expensive stuff in ED(that takes all of 30 seconds to run through)the two charity shops and....er...Amazing Grace up by the Library. It's not much better for gals either. So I cannot see the problem with having a dedicated clothes shop. I doubt it is the thin edge of the wedge for chains as some seem to fear. Face it, Caffe Nero has been up and running for ages now and there is no sign of another coffee house muscling in. citizen

Dear Jim the Chin, If you read the original post in this thread, you'll realise that I was walking down the non-shopping section of Lordship Lane and it was mid-morning on a Sunday and it was not exactly heaving with people. Once I got to Budgens and there were more people around, then it got more difficult: i agree it could be seen as weird just to be selecting some people to greet and not others. Even whe it is busy I generally try to make eye contact plus welcoming smile and then say hi if i think its a real human being walking past and not some grumpy git/nervous wreck who will simply not make eye contact with someone they don't know. You say hi to people when walking in the woods. Is this because you have some affinity with a person who is doing what you are doing. This is just an extention of the same thing. Most of East Dulwich is made up of residential streets. When you walk down one you are doing the same as the few other people you meet. Say hi next time. Can'tsee that it is anything other than completely normal behaviour. citizen really just an extention of the same thing

It has always been a little odd that strip, but at least it does have some decent shops ie DIY place, the chemists and there are places to eat. Nero is right, the street furniture and paving needs smarting up. Good luck with the new Italian place - hope it works out. If you want a really impoverished strip - try the one opposite the Harvester. OK so we have Barcelona and a flower shop but the rest is awful. A little cafe opened up there - Coffee@501 - looked smart, nice decor, decent frontage. Looks like someone spent some money. only lasted a couple of weeks before it closed down. citizen
