  1. Nice to see you and your lovely assistant at the fair Mark. Good to hear punters complaining about the Forum. Hope you didn't have to field too many awkward customers. Thanks for the organisation and the postcards. citizen
  2. Barry Road said "I heard the Plough got smashed up last night." (Friday) Walked past on the way home from the Clock after Forum drinkies. Cop car outside, Ambulance, usual suspects... Hope no-one seriously injured. Goodbye Plough. Good riddance. citizen
  3. Another recommendation for "Secret History". def in my top ten - so keep going Sean. "The Corrections" by Jonathan Franzen is superb too. citizen
  4. Brilliant idea - should be supported by all. citizen
  5. Old Plough or brave new Plough? citizen
  6. think i need to re-train so i can get a job where i can WAH. yours jealously, citizen
  7. Someone lent me The Kite Runner ages ago saying that once i got into it i wouldn't be able to put it down. Bless her - i'm only about three quarters of the way through and its OK ish. Not completely hooked. Let me know about the Nicole Krauss, Capt. I got a copy of that waiting to be read somewhere in a box! citizen
  8. congrats sean... citizen
  9. Good riddance to the Plough. Its the only pub in ED to go downhill in the time ive lived in these parts. When i first got here it was OK with its conservatory and the plants above the windows - even took my mum and dad in there once... and survived. As all the other pubs got gentrified i guess the regulars had to end up somewhere. Long live the New Plough. citizen
  10. Having had their fry-ups and pies at the Plough Cafe (snazzy new patio type window DYK) the said workmen have taken out some of the floor now and have revealed a cellar. Glad they never put up solid hoardings - we can see every development. citizen
  11. And there's me thinking that Sean had made at least 10,000 posts all on his own. citizen
  12. This morning I caught part of an interview on radio 5 with another woman whose toddler went missing - 17 years ago. Have not found him yet. The interview was well balanced but gut-wrenching. They were obviously trying to empathise with the Madeleine case. The mum was an incredible lady - strong and resolute. As for the rest of us, there simply are not the words. I tried to turn the radio off it was so sad, but couldn't. It was too transfixing. Prayers for the little girl. Prayer to her family citizen
  13. right, but think that next time i go into any of the estate agents i'll try your kind for a laugh. ("when i grow up i really do want to be an estate agent"(sic)
  14. Strangely enough i got a glossy pamphlet from the Clock through my door yesterday, addressed to me. Told me all about the changes at the place including the fact that it's a completely smoke-free pub! citizen
  15. Let's hope so, Sean. It's great living in a place that is so diverse. If people keep on patronising the shops on LL i guess there is no reason why it shouldn't maintain it's character. Isn't this the "stable state" theory? There would need to be a lot of pressure from a good number of chain stores it order to knock LL from its current mix. We got our Caffe Nero but it has not led to others opening up in quick succession and it hasn't affected trade at the local cafe's - the guy at Mon Petit Chou reckons its been good for his trade. Citizen
  16. Ditto - thanks so much fo arranging things Mark. I will try to get to the fair to say hello but as we are in the process of moving house it may prove tricky - (ED to ED if you're wondering). citizen
  17. DM. Count me in for a few of the figures in my yard too - though considering the size of my yard they'd have to be the lil' clay field figures! citizen
  18. It needs to be made a lot lot clearer which side of the fence is the Dog side. Make sure the signs are in English and any other language spoken in these parts ie Street and Sarf Lunun Chav. citizen
  19. Perhaps if the new "Global Warming" weather continues long into the summer, we should establish Spanish style siesta hours all the way along Lordship Lane (including estate agents and the post office). That'd be wick'd. citizen
  20. Is this still going on? Like to join you. A trip to the Clock would bring back memories. citizen
  21. Spoke to the guy in the grocer's by William Hill's (right next to the old Cooperative site that is being renovated) Reckoned it could be a new Tesco's. I know it is a little scuzzy at this end of LL but PLEASE GOD, NO! citizen
  22. Mark, why do this to me now - i'm in the process of moving house and i'm up to my neck in it at work...aaargh! Don't touch that link! citizen
  23. Dear all, hope the new Starbucks employ some cleaners - they obviously never bothered with the old one. I used to enjoy a Double-Fat-Frothy-Coffee-Whatever whenever doing the weekly shop - but i would never dare look down at the floor! citizen
  24. Is this the "Famous people in ED thread"? Did someone spot Henry down Northcross Market at the weekend? where has he been all season? citizen
