maxxi, if you like we can review your character and your contribution and we can discuss moving you from OT II to OT III and discuss the mother ship further?

Hi resident, welcome to the forum. As a newbie you're probably not very familar with all of the people on the forum, nor what histories they share - it doesn't pay to be too judgmental until you've found out a little more ;-)

Mansion tax - lib dems or Vince Cable at least
Huguenot replied to new mother's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I can't believe that anyone is seriously proposing that we forcibly deprive pensioners of their lifetime achievements and their house to satisfy what could only reasonably be described as an 'Envy Tax'. As for the bizarre logic that some pensioners don't 'deserve' their houses because they lucked out in the property market... words fail me. LD's stumbling through a fairly confused argument mainly because she isn't saying what she actually means - which is that she doesn't believe in private ownership of property full stop - she believes property is theft, and that someone who has worked hard to pay off their mortgage has only the same right to enjoy property as someone who's lived their life on benefits. It's a principle and key motivation of our society that individuals are free to reap the benefits of their labour - and we don't deprive them of that because we're jealous, because they chose a good career, or worked hard, or got lucky. -
The two main actors - Jason Lee and Ethan Suplee - are both Scientologists, but... It was the Daily Mirror that claimed the show's creator Greg Garcia was also a Scientologist when he wasn't. Since both the leads weren't automatics for their roles, it's unlikely that Scientology was behind their appointment, nor do they have much impact on content. There is clear evidence, however, that Strafer Jack has very questionable reading habits....

Sure, or a few fly-eating chickens. In Peckham there's a stall claiming that they sell fly-eating chickens, but they bloody don't. You've got to get the flying ones. The ones with the guns and the frying pan.

Excellent! You should work for their tourist office. It's now officially on my go-to list!

alwaysFN - are you a militant gypsy who wants funding from the society that he abuses and doesn't contribute to, or a militant Irishman who wants funding from the society that he abuses and doesn't contribute to? I wasn't aware tha gypsy/Irish was interchangeable?

"It is called guilt by association. = paranoia." Oh dear, back on definitions again are we? Please go and look up paranoia. The only thing Rick Channing was guilty of was being an arse, and you don't need 'guilt by association' to be guilty of the same charge. "the criminals are in charge" The usual rubbish. If you want to crap on about some imaginary and clearly unworkable rural utopia, be my guest, but to precede it with this silly insult as a justifcation simply demeans your intent. Stop playing to the gallery by circulating abusive prejudice. "the US is preparing to go nuclear on more than a dozen big banks among which Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank" Clearly you an unaware what 'going nuclear' is, but issuing a lawsuit for $30bn it isn't. The four banks you mention have combined annual profits well in excess of $30bn on their own, so the only likley outcome for the 'more than a dozen' you mention is that their dividend is slightly reduced for the year. "I am afraid that we risk pushing these guys off of a cliff and we?re going to have to bail out the banks again,? said Tim Rood" What do you expect him to say? That's his dividend we're taking away, and he's bound to have a moan right? "In other words: if the banks are sued, and if justice prevails, the end of the world is nigh" No, this is just your usual world of bollocks. If the banks are sued, a load of guys get reduced dividends and complain a lot. That's it. Nothing else. "Shorthand, do this to us and we will bring the system down" No, that's just your usual bullshit. Unable to find anyone to support your cause, you revent to making stuff up.

UDT, I didn't think you were Rick Channing, and I wasn't trying to get you banned. I know who you are. Take a chill pill. If you don't want people to debate who you are then don't post under multiple usernames sounds pretty simple? New Nexus is there again with 'Plead the fifth'. I've got no idea what that is - so it's clearly someone either American, or either pretending or obsessed with America. The only person who did that recently was Rick Channing, but it doesn't seem American enough for him.
-
Additionally, Nexus hasn't got a clue how to use apostrophes. After the last UDT post I know exactly who UDT is ;-), the only question is whether Rick Channing could get through 17 pages without using the word 'butthurt'.
-
I'm not confused Nexus - out of your 140 posts, well over a hundred start with quoting someone else. That's all I said, and you can count them yourself. I know what you're saying nashoi, particularly the 'fiat currency' from Nexus is all very red-eye. I just think the first post in this thread is toe-curling, bicep flexing Tom Clancy. It doesn't seem so monocular, and neither does the habitual quoting.
-
Yeah, I'm not sure I agree with you Mockers, in fact I think you have them the other way round. The use of 'Hugo' as a term of address only highlights one person who also combines that with habitual Latin board-veteran phrases. Couple that with the age and other references and I think UDT is pretty much a dead-cert. New Nexus has all sorts of strange habits - for example 90% of their posts start with quoting someone else. Something that I can't find anyone else doing to the same degree unless you go back to the early days of Snorky. I'm surprised if it's Snorky though, the subject matter matches, but Nexus seems a little bit too defensive. The only other person I thought Nexus might be with all this Americ-awe was Rick Channing.
-
There are surprisingly few people who use the name 'Hugo' to refer to me. Of those few you'll find in a search, I know that several of them are the same person, so that does somewhat limit the options for UDT's other incarnations if he has them. However, New Nexus only ever rarely refers to me with some distaste as 'Huguenot' so either it's someone else or part of an extraordinarily ornate alter ego.
-
Ha ha ha :)) The main problem you have New Nexus is that none of the facts, figures, news reports or economic lectures support your opinion. They all support a much more rational and sensible interpretation. The stuff you didn't make up anyway ;-) Still, with you there to 'stave off the vanguard' we can all sleep soundly in our beds. Can I get you a spear or a sacred stone?
-
Eh what? Sorry twinkle, I didn't see the question? S/he seemed to say (and I quite agree with him/her) that growth is going to be very limited for some time, and s/he hoped we would be able to muddle through. What was the question?
-
Ha ha ha! :))
-
Which two parties? You're not referring to me are you? You think I benefit from having to drain my energy to explain simple financial concepts and arrangements to you two wallies? Ha ha ha! I simply don't think that it's fair that your ridiculous, frequently fabricated but usually misquoted, poorly informed, abusive and destructive scaremongering should go unchallenged. Are you claiming that you 'understand the basics' and I don't? Ha ha ha! :)) *Wipes tear from eye* What a comedian!!! http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ4aAnRur6SL10jfK7DTXO1FyaqEI0Z22ZoMjzorKQLggrJmii5

That's a great article - perfectly reasoned and nuanced. Doesn't needlessly grandstand or speculate about disaster, highlights that we'll be thinking about things in new ways and that the balance of economic power will shift (although not necessarily east). More that that, it points out that we're all in this together and the we all have an interest in finding a solution. We don't hear any of the old style Americaneee about yellows and reds out to destroy the West. Not a fart about apocalypse.
-
@NN 'Pissing people off' is not the same thing as creating an apocalypse. As of this year, and proportionate to the size and influence of their economy, China will become the third largest vote within the IMF, and have four 'emerging' markets (with India, Brazil and Russia) in the top 10. This isn't being 'stitched up', this is gettting their fair dues. This is how compromises happen, this is how the world works. This isn't the collapse of society - just a more equtable and practical model. You're just thrashing about to find catastrophic problems where none exist. Stop reading bullshit US bulletin boards mate.

In what way are they being subsidized? The property belongs to them. The council tenants are being subsidized - they're living on charity. The contributors to that charity are entitled to ask that it is invested in the most appropriate way. -
@NN: What rebuttal do I need beyond proving what I have already - it's you who's making extraordinary claims without any substantiation. It's you who is persistently making assertions that turn out to be incorrect. China is already a voting member of the IMF, and controls approximately the same number of votes (around 4%) as UK, France, Germany or Japan. The US only controls 16% of votes, so is in no way able to call the shots. It's all very equitable, and apart from the usual jockeying for position trundles along quite nicely. The only thing you can see is your own crazed vision of apocalypse - the only forecast that I make is that we'll muddle through as we always do. That's not denial, that's insight backed by history.

Regarding whether on not the SDR is a currency, please read this factsheet on SDR from the International Monetary Fund. The IMF created and own the SDR system - so they should be the ones who know what it is, right? Let me quote it, just so you're absolutely clear" "The SDR is neither a currency, nor a claim on the IMF. Rather, it is a potential claim on the freely usable currencies of IMF members." Shall we consider that the last word on this issue? It doesn't surprise me that you think that you can decide what SDRs are, but it'll just go into the great pool of fabricated claims that you've made, that prove to be unsubstantiated, and in the end wrong.
-
Yet more relentless negative speculation on issues of which you demonstrate a very poor understanding. It is clear that you 'cannot see how China could get a fair deal' because you don't understand the mechanisms or the motivations. Lots has indeed happened, and lots will happen, and your silly apocalypse fantasy will continue to be pointless dramatising and scare-mongering.
