I can only imagine you're judging that on hypotheticals LadyDelilah. Have you ever seen her interviewed? Eyes and body all over the place, an unhealthy and almost obsessive self regard, a persistent and almost tragic preening, a pathetic almost hyper-stereotyped schoolgirl flirtation (little finger clumsily to mouth and batting of the eyes that has more in common with Anne Robinson than Audrey Hepburn). Think Tom Cruise on Oprah and multiply by twenty. Everyone agreed that something was wrong in Cruise's head. She's completely f*cked up. It's plausible that you can argue that when Britney got her head shaved it was because she was totally rational and exploring her self-determination. If you choose to believe that, then I can never persuade you that Annabel Chong is f*cked up. Having served on a jury, my experience is that there is always one who wants to concoct the wildest most implausible scenarios to insist that the defendant is innocent and the police are working in the pay of the Catholics. Annabel Chong is not 'expressing' herself, she is f*cked up.

'you've been proved an absolute idiot on this Huguenot' I'm looking forward to you first identifying where my opinion has been idiotic, and secondly laying out your proof. The tragedy in your response to this predictable 'crisis' point in the euro (there was always going to be a few) is that you consistently fail to look beyond your own petty obsessions to see the bigger picture. A disunited Europe is going to starve itself of resources, energy and food in the face of the superpowers of USA, China, India and Russia. I reckon you're sh*t scared of that and in denial. Your energy would be better spent in supporting strategies to address that, instead of dancing on the undug grave of a Eurozone that hasn't failed. Since the Eurozone hasn't yet failed, I can only assume that you're trying to 'talk it down'. An ambition whose positive contribution I completely fail to see.
  3. Do you not 'get' that this behaviour marks you as dickheads?
  4. Still in the pub though, eh mate? Move along sunshine, you don't even have the wit to insult someone originally. On a more relevant note, I really don't care about you. It's a discussion about pensions, and you made stuff up in a different thread and were exposed. You've then pursued me like a right sad case into other threads. Have some pride, and concentrate on the issue at hand.
  5. Take it out with prejudice? Yay!

Oh, and whilst I'm on the subject, I have a male chum who has multiple sexual partners, and the general consensus is that he's mentally ill. Not loony bin ill, but verging on sociopathic. So it doesn't just apply to women.

Sorry, that didn't make the point strongly enough. Chong was messed up, remains messed up, and that would be the case regardless of her gender or profile.

I'm guessing that by the time she reached number 4 she'd have felt a bit bruised and battered, so it's unlikely that at 249 she was just doing it for fun ;-) I can understand the performance art thing, but having trod the boards in the past, I thought most actors were damaged goods anyway.

"Where's the Hurrah? In your paranoia?" "La mort of the eurozone is nigh, Hooray to that." Is this a spelling issue? A wood for trees issue? Gotta tell you Quids, I'm struggling with what you can't see?

"La mort of the eurozone is nigh, Hooray to that." That isn't pointing out the challenges inherent regional currency management, it's premature spite and crowing. The fact is that any minor correction in the common currency will be leapt on by the boo boys as proof of their insight and talent, even if it only refers to a nation that represents a fraction of a percentage of the overall economy. Netiher does it excuse the fact that some people wanted it to fail for reasons that are unrelated to it's benefits.

Well I guess there's a Darwinian imperative that inclines ladies to pursue quality over quantity, and men to pursue quantity over quality. Annabel Chong's story was a very sad one - having left the relatively low crime and somewhat conservative environs of Singapore she travelled to London to study. The combination of newfound freedoms, a degree of teenage rebellion and an inappropriately trusting personality (for London anyway) left her gang-raped in an alley and dumped in a rubbish cupboard. I don't think most people wanted to know about that regarding 251. In context this was a tragic reflection of someone who's lost their footing and is probably trying to work out what it's all about. However, I agree with some of the posters that it was mostly women who abused her for it.

The OPs on this thread aren't speaking out 'against joining the Euro' - the UK is not in the Euro and is unlikely to be joining it soon. They're anticipating a restructuring and jumping up and down with glee at someone else's misfortune. They're not campaigning - they want it to fail, and for no good reason apart from spite (an ugly emotion at the best of times). That's what's filling me with disgust. I think the UK's doing a great job of the Olympics also. What I'm seeing is a common thread of spite and misanthropy, nothing to do with the internationalism of Eurozone or Olympics.

I'll have to go back and check, but I'm wondering whether the people pointlessly pissing on the common currency are the same ones who say 'we shouldn't do the Olympics, we'll only f*ck it up'. Miserable.

Since the UK isn't in the Eurozone, why on earth would anyone be taking such unnecessary glee in the challenges it faces? Is it possible that there's been a great deal of fear, anxiety and inadequacy that someone else is actually trying to make a better world for us all? The comments above seem to be more about relief that petty small mindedness and a lack of ambition might find some solace in the travails of others. It is a sad British trait that we sit in our pathetic, failing, rotten little island whilst pouring scorn on others who engage a social conscience and try to improve their lot. Comments on this thread remind me why the rest of the world think Britain is such a sad case. It started with Suez, and we've been sat crying in our own sh*t ever since.
  16. I think SSG and UnreliablePrejudice come from the same sad crowd that sit around in pubs saying "It's shite here and everyone are w@nkers" as a way of disguising the fact that their unpleasant and unnecessary behaviour is the reason that they're sat on their own.
  17. Can I take it from that that you believe in government? If so can you set us out a manifesto that has some constructive strategies? I'm interested because you claim that liberals are 'fascists' - so your own enlightended views mat well provide a more utopian solution? "As for plans how about we get UnreliablePrejudice on the moderators panel." Which presumably means that you think moderators are there to control and edit opinion to meet their own political ends, regardless of their own dishonesty? Doesn't say a lot for your 'support for the people' does it? The thing is SSG, that you demonstrate a lot of the totalitarian tendencies that you tar other people with. I understand that in psychological terms it's called 'projection'*. *"Psychological projection or projection bias is a psychological defense mechanism where a person unconsciously denies his or her own attributes, thoughts, and emotions, which are then ascribed to the outside world, usually to other people. Thus, projection involves imagining or projecting the belief that others originate those feelings. Projection reduces anxiety by allowing the expression of the unwanted unconscious impulses or desires without letting the conscious mind recognize them. An example of this behavior might be blaming another for self failure. The mind may avoid the discomfort of consciously admitting personal faults by keeping those feelings unconscious, and by redirecting libidinal satisfaction by attaching, or "projecting," those same faults onto another person or object."

Incidentally whilst the madonna/whore concept highlights (somewhat disparagingly) the vicissitudes of men in their approach to women, women aren't exactly consistent in their approach to men. Hunter one minute, farmer the next; psychotherapist today and chest thumping pounding paramour tomorrow.

Eh? What? "the definition of feminism has recently broadened somewhat and can now include celebrating the misogynist male invention of "slut"" "...the male invention of slut" "...the male invention of slut" I think we can agree that means that she thinks 'males' 'invented' the word 'slut' can't we? What other meaning could that sentence possibly have? I didn't mention any personal views, just that anyone with a prediliction for making crap up isn't worth listening to. And whilst I don't disagree with the madonna/whore concept in principle, it doesn't take away from the fact that it is women who predominantly use the word slut, they use it against other women, and consequently are more than likely to have a hand in the generation and consolidation of the term. I genuinely cannot understand how any other interpretation could be drawn, unless women were quite happy to ignore all the evidence when laying responsibility for all evils incorrectly at the feet of the opposite gender.
  21. Ah, No. My own disaster was more of a Nik Kershaw courdroys-tucked-into-pixie-boots-and-a-grey-felt trilby genre. I'm pleased to discover that trilbys appear to be 'in' again, but I've noted that none of them look as cool as I did.

Did you do the second one yourself? ;-) http://c.photoshelter.com/img-get/I0000FM2Gf7qVdeo/s/750/600/110611-London-Slutwalk-010.jpg Julie Bindel is making a speech to celebrate World Femininity Day. I'd barely got a paragraph into it before she asserted that men invented the word 'slut'. Now whilst I accept that many people think I am blind to the great injustices imposed upon women by men, I feel it's only right to highlight that I have very rarely heard a man disparagingly brand a woman a 'slut', and when they do it seems to spark global protest. Conversely women seem to use it persistently and aggressively to establish internecine pecking orders. So I could be forgiven for believing that men didn't invent the word slut at all - that in fact women did it to undermine sexual competition. In that context I can't even be bothered to read the rest of the speech if it's just going to be a volley of unsubstantiated allegations and 'blood libels'.
