New Zebra Crossing on Lordship Lane.
Huguenot replied to karter's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Charliecharlie, where's your evidence that planned parking damages retailers? It's quite frustrating that so many people trot out this glib cliche with no evidence but present it as fact. Since all shoppers on LL are ultimately pedestrians (or how would they get to the checkout?), then facilities that improve their access and movement will ultimately increase trade, not decrease it. If you are claiming that these pedestrians can't get to LL without driving, then how about traders running a survey asking all shoppers at the point of purchase what their postcode is? At the end of the survey period we can finally find out the cash value of motorist non-SE22 customers to LL traders without all the bullshit. Or will this be prevented because it may reveal an alternative agenda on behalf of traders - their own convenience at the expense of others? -
=increased demand from the packaging industry=increase in employment=firmer credit ratings=more buy-to-let=no homeless tenants

I'm loving bluecanary's work ;-) "It's not just the pedestrians, it's cars pulling out of bays without indicating, the motorbikes that travel at full pelt up the wrong side and the cyclists that cut you up left right and centre. I hate it. Someone posted quite recently about a grim faced woman that had refused to stop for a minute to let them cross. That was probably me. Can't stop for you all or else I'd never get anywhere!" In other words, everyone except me, me, and a bit more me! Where do you shop bc? Where do you go out to dinner, or have a quick drink, or have a pleasant afternoon stroll? Where do you chat with your neighbours and window shop? I've got a healthy ten bucks in my pocket that reckons that you do none of the above in ED? It will be utterly impossible for a driver to appreciate the challenges of LL unless they accept that ED is a community. Get out more. You'll be happier. :) -
I don't see how it's pointless Honk, you're the only person on this thread who has suggested that skin colour should be a reasonable criteria for crime prevention investment. If you don't want people to draw the logical conclusion that skin colour is a major influence in your dealings with people, then you're going the wrong way about it.

Interesting views Bradford. Just to confirm, you mention that most people in ED are "sad lonley tossers", "smell off beer and piss on the seats" and "DICKHEADS"? There's around 5,000 residents in ED, so are there 2,501 who fall into this category, or more ;-)?

Ah, TLS, if you run your eye back through the joke thread, you'll find exactly this tale.... ;-) That would account for the limited response. -
pubs and bars in East Dulwich - which ones are best?
Huguenot replied to chloejo's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I wouldn't worry too much. As you can see they're all less than 20 yards from each other, so a short walk and a peer in the window will tell you all you need to know! -

I did a map once, it's probably a little out of date now, but it's mostly accurate! Clicking on the blue placemarkers should show up a photo from a couple of years ago! View Larger Map -
I thought so too! The advertiser is 'The Christian Party' in the case of the God claim, and the fool jibe is made by 'The Trinitarian Bible Society'.
-
If, like me, you consider the the assertion by Christian groups that God exists are unsubstantiated then your opportunity to complain to the Advertising Standards Authority is here. If, like me, you consider that being called a 'fool' for not sharing the supernatural hocus pocus of Christain groups is insulting, then the same form can be used once more. If you're unsure of the assertions being made by these tyrannincal organisations, then you can check them here.

You must be a lady DM, as no feller would describe a chap as speaking gruffly ;-) Do you know that the EDF now falls 5th in a global search for the word groughly?

"Stella 7%, Guinness 5.4%, Scottish & Newcastle 5.7%(Fosters, John Smiths, Strongbow)." How outrageous is that? It's absolutely fugging extraordinary!

Yep, this is another one of those rights versus responsibilities thangs. He has the right to wear his hoodie. He has the responsibility to cater for other people's sensitivities when the personal impact is insignificant. I'm all for a society where people talk less about their rights, and contribute more constructively to their responsibilities.

Jezza me ol' china, I think Honk intended to be positively unpleasant with that comment. 'Tis only your better side that interpreted that as a genuine bon mot.
-
Yarp, I got that too, Felicity. It seems that racism is alive and thriving in Honk. How does it feel Honk mate, to hate someone for the colour of their skin?

I think it actually says 'Bossman Wines - Specialist and Organic wines, beers and spirits' So I don't think he's necessarily saying they have organic wines, you've just mis-read the sign. Boom boom.

H&M would arrive swiftly in Peckham if the local community was likely to buy their products. Don't beat around the bush Lousia and berate the 'awful' shopfronts, tell it like it is. It's the shoppers you don't like ;-)

Lousia I've searched the quote, but can't find the word 'class'. That one's yours I think? It's a great thing that I didn't 'bate my breath waiting for your recommendations, because you continue to fail the readers of the forum in delivering your list of desirable local stores. You wade into the East Dulwich commercial menagerie like a drunken six year old in an end of term lego display, flashing your teddy bear like a baseball bat. There'll be nothing to show for it but lonely tears and an empty assembly hall; the kids have moved to the party next door. Come on, grace us with your vision. In the urban wasteland that is the first achievement of Louisa townplanner, which stores will you welcome with preferential tax rates? [For the uninitiated observer this challenge may seem unnecessary, but I assure you that Lousia, whilst charming, is the most graceless of contributors. Her creative thinking is limited to a list of her criticisms. If she wasn't borrowing a cup of sugar, she'd be sh*tting on your doorstep.] -

I don't think so. I think in order to get really criminal you'd have to reject a court order. The initial transgression would be a fine, but also a requirement to comply. If you didn't comply the penalty is contempt, which has unlimited penalties. -

So let's work this. You want M+S, Dixon's, WHSmith, HMV, Boots and...? -

Not willing to be completely incoherent Louisa. Politics is of course your opportunity to debate. Your point is...? You're working class? Last time I heard you wanted to live in Devon? You value local flavour? Last time I heard you wanted to live in Devon? Peckham? You want M&S as a demonstration of local values? Bromley? Devon? You say... "to politicians of all colours, especially someone who has been involved in a government which has done nothing but isolate and put off the genuine working class vote for the best part of the two decades..." ...erm what? what do you say? -

Yarp, I've not known Macroban be intentionally rude :-) Would failure to respond to either a court instruction or a fine be consequently ruled as contempt, resulting in imprisonment?
