I expect Dulwich Park takes a hefty rent for the bike hire people..........

There is a stage where if you are a child ,if you have to go, you have to go. Boys regularly pee down drains - or at least a gutter- I thought it was strange that the wee laddie was holding his Dads hands though. Girls though? I thought parents held them aloft at the same places. How horrible that the girl was send to the bin bags - for her and whoever had to pick them up. I did not pick up any colour on this- just a bit of poor parenting.

who would be a girl !

shame, Talk talk have bought over tiscali so technically I am Talk talk anyway! is sky any better if things go wrong?
-
I have just been chatted up on the phone by a lovely man from talk talk. He has promised me the earth for ?27.98 per month, phone ( all day), broadband and 70 tv channels on demand- all because I am an existing tiscali customer. Somewhere I remember someone telling me talk talk were a terrible provider- but it sounded great- am I missing something? Can anyone recommend them? ( before I sign my life away).

oh come on! If Sainsburys in Dog Kennel hill had not opened you had to go to Vauxhall Sainsburys or Safeways in Crystal Palace- maybe Tesco in Brixton came a bit later. Try working and having a young family, you will soon come to the conclusion a car park outside the shop with shopping trolleys that take babies is the way to go for your big shop.Plenty of "pleasure" shopping at local shops at weekends. I am sure Sainsburys opened mid to late 1980's in Dog Kennel Hill. Dulwich village lost its butchers and greengrocers at the same time. Maybe bakers too if I remember. Lordship Lane has had a renaissance since then.

Long-distance relationships...can they work?
womanofdulwich replied to katie1997's topic in The Lounge
Depends how often you see each other- I think every weekend or every other weekend is just about ok depending on how much travel it involves. Hopefully you will "know " if they are the right person pretty soon and can take it from there. I am a bit of a romantic and think that if you know they are the right person, then most things can be worked around. Hard if you are very young though. ALso if you have other demands on your time at weekends - like family!! If it is further apart then I suppose web cams etc help. I would give it a try.:) -
ok puppy lovers .Thinking caps on please. the good news is no more puppy tied up outside ( it was a one off). but he is left outside for a few hours a day in the garden ( untied)( now it is not so cold) continually barking. Then he goes inside more barking or crying. I am resolved to knock on the door this weekend and say "did you know your puppy barks / cries when you are not here?" . I would then like to point them to some advice/ website/ classes. Can anyone recommend anywhere I should direct them to? Thanks in advance.

we had a kind or towelling mattress cover with a water proof section below the body. i did not like the idea of some of those waterproof sheets they looked like they would be really hot and sticky in summer. However if it did get wet it was hard to dry without sticking on radiator immediately ( unless you have a tumble dryer?). i am not sure on the nappies as i had boys and potty training was closer to 3 than 2. i am sure someone will say it is not a good thing but maybe you could try "lifting her " just before you go to bed and putting her on a potty if you can't find a good enough nappy. this is not solving a problem but saving your sheets. Hope someone else can help.:-S

i always worked mondays and as i get paid i paid the nanny. if you work mondays and get paid then you are on a winner, not many employers pick this up. - unless you only work mondays.

How to make a 'flexible work arrangement' work?
womanofdulwich replied to sb's topic in The Family Room Discussion
i have done mon, wed and thurs for a long time. but i divert workphone to my mobile and check e mails on my palm every 3 hours on my day off. If i don't get the job someone else will and i find that if you are not there your colleagues give you the duff jobs. i think it all depends on what job you have. and what kind of clients you have.when my clients were housing associations they were very accepting of a day off being a day off. i think a lot of them worked part time. private clietns don't see it that way. -
I think if you have been a cleaner, chambermaid, shop assistant or waitress it can make you a considerate client/customer. OR- like my mum ( worked in a shoe shop for a while-bless her) you might get your revenge by getting every pair of shoes out in the shoe shop and go away buying nothing........... Oh the shame. I think that is why I end up buying shoes that don't quite fit.

I second either a takeaway or eat out one day at weekend. LIfe is for living.I think a microwaved baked potato with baked potatoes and grated cheese is a healthy meal. So too is pasta, cheese and frozen veg.

If you can afford it, get a cleaner/ironer. Maybe even someone that prepares a meal for you for when you get home. You cannot be expected to work fulltime and be a mum and "do" the house. if you can't find one person do do this for you maybe ask one of the nursery nurses if she would like to earn some extra money by bringing your daughter home once a week or once a fortnight just to give you a space. If you can use your freezer and microwave to cook up double/ triple meals so that you do not have to cook so much after work. Hope this helps. If are not doing so already, try to eat with her so that when she is in bed you can have your time and a relaxing bath /red wine. Good luck, you are doing rally well to get all that done by 7.30!!

Fight in Sainsburys this afternoon (January 03) (Lounged)
womanofdulwich replied to sawyerphin's topic in The Lounge
Declan Sainsburys staff are lovely. However since Halfords was opened in Brixton I have not found a helpful member of staff there, let along one that will look you in the eye or smile or make any kind of contact. Maybe it is just my bad luck but there seems to be no customer care at all. Everyone is very begrudging and I buy everything from wiggle now if I can. -

Model man, I am sure we had a lovely chat on Friday. As everyone else on the checkout I have chatted to over the past 20 years you are lovely. Most of us have had a job like this at some stage. You just have to make the most of it. I always make a point of chatting ( other than when we are trying to watch a fight move through the store)! :) -
I use rubber gloves for all washing now. ALso highly recommend Clarins hand cream. It is ?13 or ?15 but is the best I have come across. Keep a few hand creams dotted around house near sinks to remind you to put it in as soon as you have washed hands. Maybe a monthly manicure? LOL

not sure if that counts as essential travel- but probably essential in order to travel.

sorry minitoots she was offering some remnants late last year. -
I am hoping so, what if they leave home, first day work /uni they have been up playing all night and are found a week later slumped over their console not left their room or eaten - does this ever happen? I watched a program about world of warcraft and some addicts can't leave the room to go to the loo.................Don't want that to happen. Just some people seem much more vulnerable than others to this? any other youngsters out there find it a problem?

Do you think if you are a compulsive on line gamer anything could make you change your ways? Would you have to take up another button fiddling devise or could sex drugs rock and roll take its place instead of call of duty x box live ( halo etc before that?)? Would appreciate older gamers advise how they manage life and constant at home access to x box? ( opposed to mum saying time to stop to 18 year old after 5 hours?)

essential- basic food and gin non essential- foie gras and creme de menthe essential- going to school for a public exam non essential- going to school to sit in class all day and not being allowed out for health and safety reasons essential - going to work to look after people or animals or in a shop that sells essential food items or to supervise public exams non essential- any other work especially if you have a mobile/ pc ( you may not agree with the gin part- you may substitute whisky/brandy/vodka, but nothing fancy)
