  1. Sun - and a spot of tennis- followed by a pint of lager top -bliss ( just 6 months to go)
  2. is there enough time to go to the pottery cafe place and paint pottery specially with their names etc? is it stickky earth?
  3. I think this is the hardest thing. I still cannot get over 2 doctors leaving 2 babies and a toddler in an apartment in Spain, when there was a babysitting service and money was not a problem.
  4. if you saw someone doing this would it be a good idea to take a photo of them at work????
  5. Ian, your wife is now public property to be commented on- wait till your lovely baby arrives and all the comments you will get- ohh they are teething, have croup, are hungry- people love offering an opinion- secretly they are jealous ( really!!!)and want to be new parents again ( promise)
  6. try coating the choc. chips in flour before you put them in-and again maybe the mixture is too runny?
  7. it is normal to get some, but you could try and beef yourself up a bit. it is hard to prioritise yourself. I was always being ill but cut my work hours down to get some me time and it made a huge difference.I tried to improve my diet, took extra vitamin c at the first signs, healthier diet and tried to do some exercise also. I think i went to see a homoeopath too! It can get worse when they are at school, so try and chill a bit (LOL)
  8. might try calpol before you set off and one of you go into the back and play/ read to him/ sing story tapes too? when you think about it it is very isolating in the back not seeing your parents a bit like being put in a cupboard. good luck.
  9. i went to Australia as i had baby in our winter and the british winter is always a downer. ( expensive remedy)PND is a very lonely place to be. second baby I was already had baby at home and bought in lots of help and did make more time for myself.
  10. i think if you have a summer baby you will go out much quicker than if you had one in middle november. my first was born mid nov and i don't think i went out side until the health visitor said i had to go down the clinic for a weigh in/check up.
  11. I am sure 30 years ago something like 10% of 18 year olds went to uni/poly to get a degree. now it is a lot more- and govt target is for even more ( think of all those nurses). I do not know if it was actually the top 10% cleverest people that went, or that it is the top say 25% now that go - It is the most supported/ educated/motivated that go- and always has been. It was free for me to go 30 years ago, 95% maintenance grant -it was that, or joining the forces ( in my parents opinion). So a no-brainer for me to leave home. I do feel so privileged to have made it to poly when I did. My son hopes to go to uni next year and he is far cleverer that me academically, but does not have the same life skills I had at 18- I just hope he enjoys it and makes the most of it- I think I was probably too shy/chippy to get the best out of it- lots of middle class know-it- alls were quite scary en-masse, but it can't be like that now if so many more people go can it?
  12. Local girl Please tell us what your book is called- i like to support good local authors ( especially at Christmas)
  13. As a family we have used the library for 15 years and I would say it was critical for children. Many happy hours spend reading and looking at childrens books, now means that family are comfortable to go there and take out book/ dvd/talking book -essential for long car journey. Don't get me started of the ones upstairs hogging the papers and doing the crossword first............
  14. if the drivers of bendy buses were not locked into some sot of security cube and would open the doors when the bus was stuck in traffic between bus stops then they would be fine, but if you are stuck for 10 mins and can see brixton tube station but can't get off they are blXXdy annoying. Some of these drivers are just zombies.

  16. ohh I quite liked him as Sheriff of Nottingham too - not sure if he had a cello on him at the time?
  17. we went last october try and stay as close in as you can - we stayed around campo fiori. it is right in the guts and although it was noisy at night with children it was so buzzy- we walked everywhere from there! the gelateria is called crispinas or similar. we used rough guide to rome, top tip to get the most out of it try and get on one of the guided tours of the colliseum and they will probably do you a package/ offers on other sites such the forum and vatican trip. we did one run by an american company which was really good- especially as we knew nothing about michel angelo other than a film with charlton heston in , and at the end the whole family will never forget how michel angelo painted and how he used male models etc.
  18. ah yes but are they local people?
  19. 6th December seems about right- but then then put they Regent Street Christmas lights on tonight..
  20. ohh what is a Josephine? is it a new insult I should learn to hurl at a teenager? please tell.( or even an old one)
  21. I have seen signs today for 2 Christmas fairs in Dulwich on 7th November. I think that is too early. Surely end of November is the earliest. How can Father Christmas be around on November 7th?? What are these hawkers on??? What does everyone else think? ( am I getting old bar humbug!!)
  22. i have never been there but there is a burger shop where you go and order at the bar and they deliver burger etc to your table it is a cahin- gourmet burgers? anyone tried it?
  23. not sure about kingsdale but i expect the bleep test will be part of it? ie how far you can run in an inreasingly short period of time.
  24. i think the earlier in their school lives you do it the better. once there are sats etc it gets harder. i think if you have a good attendance record then i think the school will be more sympathetic to taking time off. if , for example your child has already had weeks of sick then they will be less sympathetic- I think.i would big up how educational the trip will be and undertake to read with them every day- and maybe keep a kind of holiday diary will lots of pictures and some writing if appropriate.
