Bendy bus eradication and fare increases
womanofdulwich replied to OutOfFocus's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
if the drivers of bendy buses were not locked into some sot of security cube and would open the doors when the bus was stuck in traffic between bus stops then they would be fine, but if you are stuck for 10 mins and can see brixton tube station but can't get off they are blXXdy annoying. Some of these drivers are just zombies. -
ohh I quite liked him as Sheriff of Nottingham too - not sure if he had a cello on him at the time?

we went last october try and stay as close in as you can - we stayed around campo fiori. it is right in the guts and although it was noisy at night with children it was so buzzy- we walked everywhere from there! the gelateria is called crispinas or similar. we used rough guide to rome, top tip to get the most out of it try and get on one of the guided tours of the colliseum and they will probably do you a package/ offers on other sites such the forum and vatican trip. we did one run by an american company which was really good- especially as we knew nothing about michel angelo other than a film with charlton heston in , and at the end the whole family will never forget how michel angelo painted and how he used male models etc.

holidays during term-time - any views?
womanofdulwich replied to redjam's topic in The Family Room Discussion
i think the earlier in their school lives you do it the better. once there are sats etc it gets harder. i think if you have a good attendance record then i think the school will be more sympathetic to taking time off. if , for example your child has already had weeks of sick then they will be less sympathetic- I think.i would big up how educational the trip will be and undertake to read with them every day- and maybe keep a kind of holiday diary will lots of pictures and some writing if appropriate. -
if you said "you look like an indian" would that be ok? Don't indians often consider them selves better than people from pakistan? I work with 2 indians, and they are completely hung up on each others caste. Can someone from Pakistan let me know how they would feel about this?

what about the silent stinker? dont wash and pxss your pants but look fairly normal, gradually everyone gets off the bus- or moves away- then someone like me gets on and thinks - ooh plenty of space at the back, go and sit down and then realize why and everyone else avoids eye contact with you. then you have to try and sit out the rest of the journey without breathing...........

poor you . my son was due 14th dec, but was born 29th dec. it was a planned home birth, the christmas i had planned fell apart as giving birth you usually feel you want to be alone- think animal finding a quiet spot and getting on with it. the thought of having to think about anyone else is not easy. one thing is for sure you have to have flexible plans.you may well have your baby early. i would think about one of those novotels- the one near lambeth bridge?

we have has success with bikes, boats, and other specialist items. i have sold other things on gumtree- it is free. but it all takes time and effort- taking photos etc that i think if you can sell it via a shop window etc it must be easier- or an upmarket car boot? still some people seem to love it and if you enjoy it then give it a whizz, but as others have suggested try and get your rating up first.

University- Is it all it's cracked up to be?
womanofdulwich replied to Narnia's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think a lot of this depends where you come from.30 years ago as child of working class parents I went to Polytechnic to train for a job, as did partner - an engineer. Our parents would not have supported us to do a degree in History or English - as we needed to "get a job at the end". We were not encouraged to be educated for the sake of it, but to get a job. Now from the luxury of having made it to being fully middle class I would say yes do a History degree if you want, whilst partner would say absolutely no to a physics or chemistry degree- as "there will be no job at the end". Some degrees like English might teach you skills for life- but partner thinks a Physics/ Chemistry degree is hopeless. -
No seriously one 30 year old Kiwi girl and one Kenyan/Indian guy . Maybe not part of their culture - but he is 30 and has lived here for 22 years. My colleague and I were laughing and then we realised they were really scared!!

exactly they are lovely insects, italian people count the spots and each spot is a wish, they eat aphids etc. I have never seen anyone afraid before.

I found one at work today, and was crossing the room with it on a piece of paper to throw out of the window and two people shrieked and insisted on moving before I passed them, they were so scared. I have never known anyone scared of a ladybird before. Anyone else scared of them?

I have a professional job and must not bring myself or profession into disrepute. I do everything legit and if I am not sure I take professional advice to make sure I am doing things legally or erronthe side of caution.I do not have the resources of Lady Scotland but I do follow procedures. I think it stinks. What happened with David Blunkett and others that employed those they should not have?

Basically they are a bunch of career politicians who have never had a job in the real world and rely on civil servants ( who want to create work for themselves and keep a job)to steer them through their political life. They have no idea of life and practicalities of legislation. You should not be allowed to hold these offices unless you have had experience of working elsewhere for 10 years minimum,.
