  1. brockwell park is open at 7.30 am ..........
  2. i have had 3 nieces staying from australia in the past 3 years- all between 22 and 25- they are gross- room a real tip- makes my teenage boys not look too bad. i now have a 23 year old italian girl staying and she is also terrible. yet they all emerge beautifully coiffed and made up. all i notice is that the more space they have the messier they are!! i have to confess that whilst the rest of my house is tidy there is a chair in my room that is 2ft deep in clothes / bank statements/ Christmas lists......
  3. My degree was Urban Land Economics- lead to being a chartered surveyor- and here I am 25 years later, using the same principles every day I work. 75% of people on my course did. I think it is really useful to try various jobs in your holiday periods to rule in/ rule out what gets you going.
  4. are these small mobiles that have internet access on a pay as you go basis any help for elderly? orange are advertising them - i was hoping that you could use them to e mail photos etc? save all those stamps and letters. any one know anythign about them?
  5. i meant hang on in there for everyone like you to respond to your email!! I have lots of friends without children, some sadly because they were unable to have any, or they or their partners did not want them, others as a life choice. i see them less than i did, but i love it when i do as it means a chance not to talk about children all the time.
  6. hang on in there Guppy!
  7. wow Dulwich Mum- you must have had some terrible experience with Catholicism? You sound like one of those ex smokers! .
  8. no, but you may be the last heterosexual one who is not on fertility treatment/trying to adopt. :)
  9. 14.tollgate 15.lordship lane
  10. i think the newsagents stocks a range of porn magazines which are easily viewable to all customers, so I will be glad to go elsewhere.
  11. sorry I meant Guys Hospital. NHS. we go to half moon dental centre and they referred my son there. it is a lengthy process but free for children.
  12. i am guessing lindy lou may have a little local shop in east dulwich and may be indian? Is this the sainsburys local planned near the library? is the only grocers shop there the one with a post office in?
  13. can you go to guys at london bridge?
  14. oh charlie charlie so true- whats on offer is sooo important- i thought he would outgrow it!! i am sure there is a market out there for tesco et al to exploit. a pc that will only work for their store etc with easy to work instructions-not able to be used by any other store.
  15. oh i sympathise. my dad lives in norfolk and there is a free silver surfers club at the library where they will show him what to do and he can go there for free for an hour a week. will he go there? will he hell.I am mentally prepared to phone him up, ask him what he wants and do a tesco on line delivered to him. is there a silver surfers club near to them that they can use? they might just go there instead and be supervised- maybe that is not so secure though? what do others think?
  16. saying no the second drink/piece of cake/chocolate bar
  17. Brendan- I think they must be a bit weird to apply for the job in the first place? celibate? That is not normal. They will find sex somewhere.
  18. Have you spoken to the nursery manager?- or just the nursery nurses? it maybe that the nursery nurses are not fully communicating what has happened to the manager, a tricky one but I don't think you should pull your child until you have exhausted the chance of getting to the bottom of it.nursery staff and teachers can be quite defensive.if you can change sessions that might be a help, but I agree you want to try and findout what their policies are on this sort of thing.good luck
  19. the glades in bromley offer a personal shopper service that is free- go on- and report back.
  20. my work colleague got married last month and the wedding was costing ?134 a head. his choice I know, but I did think that if he had invited me, and i had attended I would have felt inclined to spend more on him than if he had had a smaller ceremony. Is that untypical? he told me that bacon butties were costing him ?7.50 each for the end of the evening. What a rip off the whole thing is.
  21. cora that is tragic. really only something you can do in your own home until they are a bit older. maybe next time you visit grandparents/ they come to stay you can suggest it? choc crispy cakes are a good start, move on to fairy cakes and jam tarts/mince pies.
  22. i mean ones that do not have a cold pantry. if you live in a flat the only place you can keep things cold are in the fridge ( or windowsill/balcony). we have a pantry with an outside wall and no heat. on the other hand it is easier to keep a flat warmer than a house. my dad has a cellar and keeps all his veg there and it keeps for ages.
  23. fabulous thread- the fan museum - so glad to know it is not worth the visit. i think herne hill velodrome is pretty special if cycling is on. also walking around inns of court in working hours; flask walk/hampstead heath;
  24. there are generations out there who: never plan their weeks meals do not keep containers for freezing leftovers or live in tiny heated flats with no pantry and tiny freezing department. have very limited domestic science skills This could be turned around by better education at school and home. Hugh FEarnley whittingstall did a really good program about cooking a whole chicken which was more expensive than chicken breasts, but using as the basis of 3 meals. i expect he was preaching to the converted. Perhaps if chefs/tv programs started off with: a cabbage- what you can do with it etc it might be more helpful. Perhaps we should say no food waste in your bins? compost peelings. bones for dogs. fat for the birds. that would over most of it?
