Sometimes we have to give ourselves a break. being a single parent means you never get a break or chance to unburden. we have all been shouted at by our parents- and we are all normal aren't we ?;-) Please break out to the forum whenever you feel like it. group hugs.

I confess I just don't get it- yes to flexible working if possible- to see our darlings in school plays/ assemblies/ parents evening / check ups etc etc. that is when they need your support. but 6-12 months? why then? Who can possibly afford it? hard enough for one career to be put on the back burner- but taking 6 months off with a 6-12 month old will not help fathers career( depends what it is I suppose). it will make him realise what is involved- but will he be doing the cooking cleaning shopping coffee mornings ? probably not because they are so tedious. Would i resent working while partner stayed at home- ? of course as lots of us are control freaks and want men to do what we would do if we were at home with baby. what if they decided to take 6 months off travelling with baby? i would be beside myself.

Cycling on pavement (Dulwich College)
womanofdulwich replied to Zebedee Tring's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I agree silly woman makes a valid point- but i have no time for adults ( or anyone over 13) cycling on pavements. Really the more people that cycle on the roads the better for all cyclists- strength in numbers etc etc. -
i think 3-4 hours at gcse is ridiculous nowadays. 1.5-2 hours max. more for revision. otherwise they will burn out.

Running out of milk!
womanofdulwich replied to lorraineliyanage's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ohh- I must have forgotten- I am sure we were on teacher beakers at one year old- and normal milk- but fashions/ health advice changes. Know what you mean about traveling I breast fed around Australia it was so easy compared to anything else. goodluck. -
See if you can borrow someones pump to see if you can use it first- they do vary and due to my size (very big!) I could not work one and found it easier by hand. Also I used these plastic cup things in my nursing bra to collect milk. When you feed from one side - loads comes out the other side at the same time to begin with and you can use that as reserve collect and freeze in ice cubes.

Running out of milk!
womanofdulwich replied to lorraineliyanage's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Please do not be kidded into the contraceptive bit- I know 2 people who children are 12 months apart who conceived while breastfeeding at 3 months.Hard work. -
Rosie, some men just think that way- some sit and say nothing for a while and then pipe up,some have to get it down as soon as they have thought of it. I am married to the former, but work with the latter.

Running out of milk!
womanofdulwich replied to lorraineliyanage's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Anything after 6 months is a bonus in my opinion. I think your body and daughter have naturally stopped and just enjoy the fact that your boobs are no longer milk bottles. I think I am writing what others are thinking. If she has only been taking from one then I see no point in trying to get them both into action again. Sorry to disappoint you, but nothing wrong with stopping breastfeeding, you were a star to do it in the first place. -

butter eating three year old
womanofdulwich replied to josiebee's topic in The Family Room Discussion
i am not an expert, but part of feedback must be if she has tummy aches/ bowel movements ok. also you could try and assess her calorific requirements and if she is not eating calories in terms of carbohydrates- bread pasta rice potatoes etc- then these can be partly topped up with fat- but too much butter could develop into an unhealthy eating habit and heart disease. i have a very old manual of nutrition but it is too old to specify fat levels for3 year olds. -
I think they often pile it on to begin with and it can tail off. But quite often a school issues homework timetables- so there are not 6 things set one day- I must admit I only managed to retrieve this from bottom of sons bag once - but was helpful- plus many schools issue a homework diary/ journal - which you can check - but sometimes boys can forget to write it down. I have a timetable pinned up above kitchen table. and when I get home I say " any homework " ( no ) - then look at the timetable and say, "oh you had french today and no homework or vocab then? " amazing what turns up with these kinds of prompts. I would try and get homework done as soon as you can, so that you can factor in a "night off" if necessary because of all those other after school activities sport etc, as they are usually too tired to try much after that. If you have more than 3 things a night- that you can pace that way- I think that is too much and you should check that the teachers coordinate it better. My son is year 9 and has often done work in breaks/ lunch hours (he has got away with this for 2 years- )and homework is often finish off what you were doing in class- and if you are more able this may mean you don't have that much to do.

Hey Mick mac, of course I take note-it is a revelation to know some forumites take such an interest in this sort of thing. I had no idea there was such doom and gloom out there. I resolve to pay off some mortgage when my endowment comes in. ;-) -
Tiny Little Things That Cause You Irrational Rage
womanofdulwich replied to PinkyB's topic in The Lounge
what about those people that insist on having the aisle seat on trains/ buses and keep their bags on the inside and then get all huffy when you want a seat- and get up and move out so that you have to sit on the inside while they spread out in the aisle? i have quite long legs and their legs are nearly always shorter than mine grrrr. -

all you need is a decent firearm then? can't we harness local gangs to notch up how many foxes they can kill and display them? -

They are too big for an air rifle to kill- but you could try using a bee bee gun as a deterrent? There is also a thing that makes a noise that apparently only foxes can hear and hurts their ears ( not sure how effective it its) you would have to google it. -

so do I keep overpaying each month by the amount that I am allowed to ( that allows me to take it back as cash at any time) or seriously overpay and clear mortgage with ( admittedly not looking too good endowments ) that will soon come in? 1.5% above base seems cheap money for a mortgage but I am struggling to think of where to put the extra for the next few years to earn more ( that is a safe place)? Come on you gurus - share your knowledge with me please.
