  1. Thanks first mate. I did not want to impose human standards on a dog but it seemed wrong to me too. I am so hoping this is a one off as i know their children wanted a puppy. Christmas day is a stressful time so lets keep our fingers crossed this was a one off.
  2. i really would rather try and have a conversation with the owner as i don't know what is acceptable? i have tried googling puppy care but cant find a specific detail. i know it is very young as they have not taken it our for a walk yet, or loose in the garden- because of presumably its immunizations. can anyone direct me to a good web site because i feel i will have to do something if it happens again and i would rather do it in a friendly and informed manner.
  3. yes it was taken in. i am so glad as i did not want to criticise not having had a dog myself. lets hope that it was a one off.
  4. neither would I but I know there are lots of rules about being strict with dogs it just does not seem right. puppy has stopped barking now and i hope that is because it has been let in.
  5. my neighbours have a new puppy for christmas and it has been tied up outside for the past 3 hours in the cold. it looks like a little scottie dog - like you get on a bottle of whyte and mackays whisky. i dont know anything about dogs/ puppies - but is that ok?
  6. well I was so full of good intentions but at 8.00am hubby got a goose at Rosendale road butchers- despite them telling me last week they would not have any. New years resolution to do smithfields and covent garden early morning. Thank you for all your sound advise.
  7. Thanks d bboy. i am full of good intentions for an early start........
  8. Thanks Rosie. I have never been to Smithfields, and as I have the day off thought may be this was a chance to go and do one of those "London things"- you know ? Never been to covent garden flower market either............
  9. on singing wilks what a good idea- I tried running the 6am option in the 14 year old son - even though I said it would be an amazing start to Christmas it was a non starter. what time do you think is the latest you can grab a goose?
  10. I have failed to obtain a goose in Dulwich for Christmas and was thinking of going to Smithfields early tomorrow morning- the website says before 7am is best. Thought it would make a nice start to Christmas- has anyone been?- is parking a problem if we go there at 6am Lets not talk about the road conditions...........
  11. there were some tablemats that would only invite certain offers- did they sell?
  12. I am so lucky my parents were not like yours or my mother in law, but father in law is- and yet we married their children- so what happened? always amazes me
  13. Instead of a pr newsletter from the council I think a 1kg bag of grit ( like a bag of sugar) delivered every November to each householder would be a good idea. If they sold them in sainsburys next to de icer I would but one -
  14. really? That is brilliant-do you remember the name to save me trekking up to town for the beloved Trumpers spanish leather?
  15. west dulwich is easing up a bit. ...........
  16. If it is that noticeable then maybe you could say to your land lord and they will insulate better? Any other occupier would have the same problem- unless they smoked? my friends has neighbours that smoked and in the end they realised all the smell came up through one cupboard in the hall that had no underlay or carpet. If they smoke outside then in the summer it would be even worse...............Otherwise if it is your flat it will be noticeable if you wanted to sell?
  17. what does living in poverty really mean? When we were young we had no central heating, car or tv. We were happy!! I am unsure about these divisions/lines. Especially when being poor is ( I think) in some cases being in the bottom 10% of incomes. So of course there will always be a bottom 10% of incomes and if this is the definition there will always be poverty. What do others think? ( obviously I am only talking about the UK, there is huge economic poverty in other countries)
  18. I have been to see Matthew Bournes productions which are very accessible. I think he is doing his swan lake soon for a limited period. Usually Sadlers Wells.
  19. Peckham Rose I think you are right. I have always run the house, children, schools , finances. Always made the decisions and felt quite strongly and passionately. I don't think I will turn into one of those women", phew. Gig girl I think you are spot on. My partner ( finally after 20 years)now has a well paid job and the pressure is off me, and I think that is it-I have lost my hunger. What a great bunch you are. I am feeling a lot better now!:)
  20. You are being very kind- I think it is fine to forget what you went to Sainsburys for- I have no problem with that sort of forgetting, but I wondered if anyone else who has worked through having children reaches middle age and feels they should do something a little bit less stressful? Something less pressurised? I know people go and make cheese etc ( not for me). Whats the answer?
  21. Well Peckham Rose I am not yet 50, but for the past few years I have been looking around and I know I am not as sharp as I was. I am finding it rather hard to take on board. I have come across dippy women and thought oh god let me know if I am getting like that and now I wonder if I am in the first throws- you know the indecisive ones- the ones that need constant assurances? I may be in the early stages - But I wondered if this is how it will be and should I change professions now to something a little less demanding?
  22. Do you ever think you have lost it? Do you ever think "I am far too slow to do this job my brain is so full of stuff that for something else to go in something else has to come out?" Is it just me being of a certain age and thinking I will be found out at work soon as no longer being up to it? Or do other people think the same? May be its a woman thing but I wonder if anyone else feels the same secretly?
  23. thats a lot too soon if it is hi , this is my new friend we are having a meal here and here is the babysitter, see you later that is fine. If the kids see him at breakfast the next morning then I think that is too soon. But I guess it depends what else goes on in the house!!
  24. Witness- the bit when Harrison Ford emerges from the grain silo. Casino Royale when Daniel Craig comes out of the sea. Withnail and I - the scene when he talks about fine wines in the cafe.;-)
  25. I was not induced but pretty close to it. MY little bundle was due 14th dec but came 29th dec. When you are that late they like to scan you every other day - but luckily I avoided xmas day and boxing day. I did try to find some alternative help on about 21st dec, but no homeopaths/ acupuncturists to be found in SE London by then - all off on holiday. My Mum was at least a week late with my brother and I. If you want to stay "active " in labour I would stay at home as long as you can- otherwise you can deliver yourself up to the maternity ward and ask for whatever pain relief they can give you!I think some people feel more comfortable in their own home and can take more pain, but once you are in hospital it can be bard to assert yourself with the nursing staff- but some people feel more comfortable and relaxed being in hospital. There is always gas and air/ TENs machines. Good luck. You will almost certainly have a stubborn ( can't remember the star sign name )child who will find their way in the world and nothing will stop them ( my observations to date).
