  1. sorry I meant Guys Hospital. NHS. we go to half moon dental centre and they referred my son there. it is a lengthy process but free for children.
  2. i am guessing lindy lou may have a little local shop in east dulwich and may be indian? Is this the sainsburys local planned near the library? is the only grocers shop there the one with a post office in?
  3. can you go to guys at london bridge?
  4. oh charlie charlie so true- whats on offer is sooo important- i thought he would outgrow it!! i am sure there is a market out there for tesco et al to exploit. a pc that will only work for their store etc with easy to work instructions-not able to be used by any other store.
  5. oh i sympathise. my dad lives in norfolk and there is a free silver surfers club at the library where they will show him what to do and he can go there for free for an hour a week. will he go there? will he hell.I am mentally prepared to phone him up, ask him what he wants and do a tesco on line delivered to him. is there a silver surfers club near to them that they can use? they might just go there instead and be supervised- maybe that is not so secure though? what do others think?
  6. saying no the second drink/piece of cake/chocolate bar
  7. Brendan- I think they must be a bit weird to apply for the job in the first place? celibate? That is not normal. They will find sex somewhere.
  8. Have you spoken to the nursery manager?- or just the nursery nurses? it maybe that the nursery nurses are not fully communicating what has happened to the manager, a tricky one but I don't think you should pull your child until you have exhausted the chance of getting to the bottom of it.nursery staff and teachers can be quite defensive.if you can change sessions that might be a help, but I agree you want to try and findout what their policies are on this sort of thing.good luck
  9. the glades in bromley offer a personal shopper service that is free- go on- and report back.
  10. my work colleague got married last month and the wedding was costing ?134 a head. his choice I know, but I did think that if he had invited me, and i had attended I would have felt inclined to spend more on him than if he had had a smaller ceremony. Is that untypical? he told me that bacon butties were costing him ?7.50 each for the end of the evening. What a rip off the whole thing is.
  11. cora that is tragic. really only something you can do in your own home until they are a bit older. maybe next time you visit grandparents/ they come to stay you can suggest it? choc crispy cakes are a good start, move on to fairy cakes and jam tarts/mince pies.
  12. i mean ones that do not have a cold pantry. if you live in a flat the only place you can keep things cold are in the fridge ( or windowsill/balcony). we have a pantry with an outside wall and no heat. on the other hand it is easier to keep a flat warmer than a house. my dad has a cellar and keeps all his veg there and it keeps for ages.
  13. fabulous thread- the fan museum - so glad to know it is not worth the visit. i think herne hill velodrome is pretty special if cycling is on. also walking around inns of court in working hours; flask walk/hampstead heath;
  14. there are generations out there who: never plan their weeks meals do not keep containers for freezing leftovers or live in tiny heated flats with no pantry and tiny freezing department. have very limited domestic science skills This could be turned around by better education at school and home. Hugh FEarnley whittingstall did a really good program about cooking a whole chicken which was more expensive than chicken breasts, but using as the basis of 3 meals. i expect he was preaching to the converted. Perhaps if chefs/tv programs started off with: a cabbage- what you can do with it etc it might be more helpful. Perhaps we should say no food waste in your bins? compost peelings. bones for dogs. fat for the birds. that would over most of it?
  15. make a den under the table with blankets etc. put all the teddies/toddlers to sleep there. or under chairs with a blanket over it. you can make pretend meals for them bath them in the sink first. oh sounds divine - I am feeling broody.
  16. DEFINITELY NOT. They stay a same school.this is a top trick - see all those cars that drop off in dulwich village every morning.
  17. all you need are teenagers- or at least teenage boys. they hoover everything up. i think they should be let out at 9pm every night to finish off the contents of everyone elses fridges. just leave a sign out to say you have FOOD. put any bits left over in the fridge, and if they get in before you it will be finished off the next night. i only throw away vegetable peelings and tea bags.
  18. try the new sports shop at herne hill. intersport.the staff are really friendly.
  19. i always thought I would go to Mallory towers and arrive on a horse at the beginning of term. I am just about over this............
  20. i can recommend the duel control electric blanket that only warms up one side of the bed-- or if you are partner less you can keep the heating on the other side of the bed all night and it feels a bit like there is soomene there ( without the snoring)
  21. oh yes, a visit to optician and mention of having to get bi focals in the next few years and a referral to "at your age " was enough to send me screaming................
