  1. ah yes Marion Kavanagh petitioned and worked hard for the CHarter school to be established.
  2. those are just Southwark- some parts of East Dulwich might go to Lewisham/Lambeth schools- London Nautical/Forest HIll/ Sydenham/ St Dunstans
  3. There is a shop near the LLane Sainsburys called, I think, East European foods, which sells quite a bit of Russian type food. Worth going to just to see the phalus shaped bottle of liquor on the shelf behind the counter. Ideal Christmas present for your jovial uncle.
  4. My Mum was bitten by a dog when she was a child- this had a serious effect on my brother and I and how we view dogs. Dog lovers don't always realize the psychological scars a dog bite/attack can have on you and the culture of your family. ( I love dogs and my brother has one now, but it has taken some time).
  5. http://www.jagssportsclub.co.uk/opening-hours.asp you could always run indoors -if you don't mind paying.
  6. try looking at the au pair world website. they have good advice.
  7. of you have a steel bath someone will take it for scrap.
  8. ;-) there is a lot of truth in that.
  9. The fact that emc is a journalist puts me on edge. I can't help but be very cautious about this thread.
  10. When do you get time to watch these? I always feel its a huge acheivement to get a whole hour to myself with a tv- how do you manage a box set?
  11. Its not a good idea to tell your partner everything.
  12. Thanks I might fall back on Polish food, but he is from Siberia - I have a feeling Polish food will be exotic! The food fair sounds a great idea though. Will take him there and see what lights his fire ;)
  13. no Annette- they have been in the uk for a month eating "our" food- I just thought I would make a little effort to buy/ make a few things - but trying to avoid a jar of caviar...... Lidl might be the answer-last time I was there i loaded up on croque monsiuers(?) and lasagna-
  14. Can anyone help me as to whether there are any Russian food delicacies available in local shops? I don't fancy feeding/ eating Borscht all weekend with a Russian guest. Thanks all.
  15. will the Land Registry record this?
  16. my son had ham or beef sandwiches every day for 4 years!
  17. ?80? Sounds like a ROger Pope price to me. I am not an optician but you often see them offering free trials- esp the bigger ones. They are much better than they were( assume you mean daily disposables?) if you like them you can get cheaper on line eg contact lenses direct. I would shop around before forking out ?80.
  18. my son was a paper boy last summer- refiel cover while his mate on holiday- def still are paper boys. if you are up early- 6.30-7am ish your see them riding around, Se21/se24/se22.
  19. we are going to Istanbul soon and have been recommended The Other Tour- pricey but apparently VERY good.
  20. when I first came to London I rented a room cheaply - about 40% less than the going rate and babysat one night a week- mid week. I think if you targeted the right place you could do well - I have also met au pairs who "lived Out" from thier family at another family owned house. Moving house costs so much money.
  21. your best market for the room would be a nanny with a live out position- you MIGHT get a reduced rate in exchange for her babysitting one night a week?
  22. About 7 years ago it was gardening ( seceturs/ shears), since then it has been tennis and this summer writing on a white board when teaching.
  23. I just wondered if anyone has any top tips for curing this? I have in the past had chinese medicine/acupuncture/ physio/ cortisone injections. Cortisone injections are successful in the short-term but it keeps coming back. I have read that the more injections you have the less effective they are :(
  24. my best presents at this age were the lady next door who did not have children made me a special box decorated with my name on it and full of straw/ cotton wool with lots of little things in- well Sindy clothes and bubble bath anyway! maybe a ladybird book. The box was always a cardboard box painted with my name and it is so obvious to me now that she loved me to pieces and wished she could have children. It must have taken her a while but it was always SO special. it might be a bit labour intensive for 4 children but its just an idea.
