  4. Is that right?Hunger Games? isn't that a bit scary? When my family read The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings etc they were not brand new.But they were 14 ish? I know what you mean about old hat but they are age appropriate- Noughts and crosses by Mallory Blackman? The Eoin Colfer books are really good for that age - I think.The Artemis Fowl series but there are others- especially with strong girl characters.
  5. Maybe Harry Potter? Its always good to read something when you are familiar with the subject- assuming she has seen the films in French?
  6. oh dear- did you have to : a) go to hospital; b) go straight to your highly equiped first aid kit; c) search the house for a packet of plasters while swearing profusely;

    Milk

    I confess I used to buy milk at Sainsburys- about 10 pints a week. Where should I buy to be sure that the milk producers get a fair price- does it have to be the co-op or is there anywhere else local? thanks

  16. As a former employer of au pairs I can only agree. I have had several au pairs crying in the kitchen to me because their family treats them like a slave. I have had to comfort them and occasionally allow them to stay here with my own au pair. I have to say that for some families who are not British ,they come from a culture where slavery/ subservience is the way of things. These families are usually blacklisted by reputable au pair agencies.

  20. Pair of levis from pre children once a year,I try them on, sigh and put them away again.
  21. We had a spate of one taking 2 weeks holiday with the children and then the other one- plus decamping them to grandparents for a week at each. Tough times. Maybe ask for unpaid holidays?
  22. I agree Tom Archer is particularly obnoxious.
  23. The life saving course now costs about ?250!!runs at JAgs sometimes.
  24. Elephant- easy tube to Kilburn and train to Bromley ( may have to change at Herne Hill)
