  1. A jam kettle is a huge pan for making jam in- but might also contain a lot of chocolate and crisps ;)
  2. i would welcome any ones ideas on where to hide food in your house that a teenager will not find. if i buy anything nice they seek it out like heat detecting missiles. even in the shoe cleaning box or the jam kettle. any one with better ideas??
  3. we have have to drink it all undiluted then - to be on the safe side..
  4. i think it is the shortest posiible walking route, but rememeber that proirity goes to siblings and other needy groups. 3 years ago we were too far away at 1.5 km. however I notice children walk past my house every day who fall into the other 2 categories.
  5. of course you can always look it up in a book if you are over a certain age...
  6. i just need to point out that Charter got 66% grade A * to C inc English and Maths compared to 82.07% at Graveney. Charter is not really East Dulwich, more Dulwich Village, and your friend would have to be careful that she was close enough to the school. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Charter, but its results are not as good as Graveney- partly because some of its intake is selective. I only mentioned Graveney because you stressed that your friends children were academic.
  7. if you include english, maths, science and a modern langauge (all the things an acadmeic would rate), then charter will fall behind graveney. The charter is very good at getting everyone up on the number of gcse's but it is different gcse's for differnt people, where as graveney still push the more academic subjects- imo.
  8. Graveney is a far more academic school than charter. Not better necessariy but far better results.
  9. i'll join you at the end of the day if you cant find any morning people- although i am at the jog so you can still speak school...
  10. the hippies came to the isles of scillies in the mid to late sixties- it was SO exciting- i was a child at the time- it was like an alien invasion- they had long hair and ate the flowers, played guiars and harmonicas and slept on the beach- they only stayed a week i think , but it was SO exciting if you lived on the isles of scillies!!I rememeber we went to look at them - but did not get too close- it was like goign to see a beached up whale or similar- best to to get too close or engage in converation unless they spoke to you first.
  11. i would steer them more to getting onto the very tight Graveney area.
  12. you could leaflet your road with similar size / style houses.
  13. i think its the before 7am thats the killer .my body is not ready for any exercise that early in the day...is the park open then anyway??
  14. of course any bucket would do,who has got room for all this paraphenalia? i found a washing up bowl was better for the first few weeks as the babys head/neck is so weak.
  15. you can def bath in the kitchen sink to begin with, but you need a good size washing up bowl. in fact i did this when my son was 6 weeks old at grannies house, so dont rush into anything.
  16. when you are weaning aren't you still meant to give baby rice which is rich in iron? ( mixed with milk)
  17. the cafe in the park itself is really good. not sure if olleys is open today, maybe not the kind of tea you were looking for..
  18. you can always give baby stuff to kings
  19. i think part of the problem is that public housing stock is set at a higher standard than private. i think for example they all have to be double glazed, and whilst private sector might do this there is no compulsion, so in its desire to raising standards public sector housing has kind of shot itself in the foot, as they do not have the funds to do so.
  20. how much bought fresh coffee to go do people drink on average? we have a cafetiere at work and a kitty for "real coffee",and i allow myself homemade the same at weekends, but I thought maybe the fashion had died out? I know working in swiss cottage puts me at a bit of a disadvantage here, but do lots of people still buy a coffee everyday to take away? just curious.
  21. quite often "single " men of this age can be found with their children on a sunday morning at the park, having their weekly access . Dulwich Park particularly bad/good for this. Alternatively they are starting a middle age crisis and buying some kind of bicycle, and participating in some group cycling/posing.
  22. i love fruitcake with a big slab of cheese, everyone else in my house hates it.
  23. pancakes are lovely too. althought my au pairs always made much nicer ones than I ever could.
