Stabbing on crystal palace road.
minder replied to clockworkorange's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There I was asking for an update on the original post, which nobody had replied to for a while and hoping everything was ok and I'm selfish, repugnant, low, off topic and insensitive and don't know what a stabbing is. You can't win on this forum. I picked up on the original poster's comments about the Police shutting roads down. Of course they have to investigate a crime scene but surely also keep the traffic moving too? With the incident in Lewisham (somebody had come off their pushbike whether pushed, fell, hit by something I don't know) but there were elderly people and people with young children just stranded with nowhere to go for ages. And Sue, I think you've misconstrued buggie's comments as if I was in traffic at the stabbing incident. I wasn't. And yes, Otta, let's hope it's good news. -
Which Santa's grotto would you recommend?
minder replied to hosky's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Why go all the journey to Selfridges when you can go to this side of the woods to get the same experience? Suppose I'm biased as remember the time my Dad took me and my sisters to Selfridges for Xmas 1974. It wasn't a very good day as my Dad ended up trying to get us all out of Selfridges in a crush situation because of a bomb scare. I can remember my green flared trousers and my Dad having one of my sisters on his shoulders! -
Stabbing on crystal palace road.

Any updates on this incident? Hope it wasn't a bad outcome. The Police do like to shut down roads when there is any kind of accident/incident. This can lead to traffic chaos on either side of the incident/accident. Happened in Lewisham on Friday around 3.15pm when the whole of Lewisham and surrounding areas came to a standstill because of an accident that could have easily been moved on. Car and van loads of police were on the scene within half an hour but didn't seem able or any way inclined to help move the traffic and bus loads of passengers along their way. Too busy on their phones or adjusting their jackets and just contemplating it as an everyday occurrence! Daughter and myself were on a P4 bus but had to get off and walk ages away from the scene just to get home. -
Tara, a childminder has the same amount of children in their care i.e. 3 or less and a nursery worker has the same I think, although not always the same children? Correct me if I'm wrong the nursery workers out there? As a childminder, you don't get much communication from any for the record if they (the children) are at a nursery. kemurf, I can't believe your post really about childminders out and about at playgroups, libraries, music groups etc. Over the years and even up until last week I still see so many parents and nannies oblivious to anything but chatting to their friends and on their phones that their children are just left to their own devices. This is all done when somebody is trying to talk/sing above them!

Great stuff! Remember being taught 'Domestic Science' at Kingsdale in the early 70s! Was married in St Giles, Camberwell. Grubby looking on the outside but another world on the inside. Part 1 very interesting too. I remember the caf? in Ruskin Park where you could get an ice cream and sit outside. It was just near the bandstand. I was born in 1963 so the films of the area my parents and husband's parents grew up and lived in was very interesting.

The journey there and on the ship and journey back should be very interesting for a nearly 5 year old so I wouldn't worry. Used to take my children and they loved it. It's cold onboard but once you get going up and down stairwells, fitting into little gaps, sitting at the controls etc. it should be a good day for your son (and Dad)!

Brockwell Park Car Boot Sale - Sunday 12 October?
minder replied to pearcesa's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'm sure it's a monthly boot sale and the last one was on 28th October, so the next one should be 26th October. It's always advertised in the South London Press when it's on and it wasn't advertised yesterday but can't be too sure as they sometimes cancel due to bad weather etc. -
Crokes, thanks for providing the link to Amott. No wonder they had to close; looks like with the prices they were charging they probably couldn't cover their costs. At the other end of the scale Buds (sorry never heard of Buds or Amotts) are charging ?34 for a morning session!

re 37 bus accident this morning (26th Sept)
minder replied to nlem's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hope you're feeling ok now. Re your post about you're not sure why you're the only one talking about the incident on the EDF. Not everybody knows about the forum but more so Facebook and Twitter? -
You do get used to late nights whilst having a 6 month old. Gone are the days when I had a good nights' sleep and my eldest is now 22 and I have the eyebags to prove it and I didn't pay out any money!

Hi Otta, I think table manners are an important part of a school's learning. Maybe the head was just trying to set an example to other children and therefore help them along the way so don't think that's a bad thing. I've worked in a dining hall at a primary school and it can be a very chaotic place to be. Sorry to go off topic of the OP.

I didn't know it existed, but OH remembers it quite well. He used it lots with his friends and remembers going in through the entrance (now a nursery) and having a good time. He remembers the lockers were all around the pool but there wasn't room to lie about like at Brockwell. My Dad used Brockwell for many years (have a photo of him at Brockwell in the 1940s) and we used to go as a family but I always found it too big and busy.

Bike stolen from ED train station bike rack
minder replied to minder's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Son said it was bike rack on the outside, near the crossing. Lock was a Raleigh cable lock. It was quite an old bike but he'd done it up with a new saddle and tyres a year or so ago, so some toe-rag obviously took a shine to it. British Transport Police phoned today to say they need a few bits of info (what son was wearing, time he left bike) and they will look into it. They were very helpful. -

Just to make people aware of bike thefts from the ED train station bike rack. My son's bike was stolen from the bike rack at the station today between 3.30pm-7pm. He asked station staff if they have any CCTVs. They do, but not trained on the bike racks. This seems a bit stupid really, especially as it sounds like it's happening a lot there.

twilight saga...appropriate for primary school????
minder replied to Tulsie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Agree with you Otta about reading as a kid. I couldn't wait until the next weekly issue of Misty, Bunty and Tammy and running round my local shop to get it. Misty was a favourite. I suddenly realised there was a library next door to the newsagents! -

Which are the best girls state schools near Dulwich?
minder replied to Sol's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yes, they do French, Spanish, Latin and Mandarin but not all at once. Yes, they go to university. -
twilight saga...appropriate for primary school????
minder replied to Tulsie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Tulsie, be brave and make a complaint to the school. I did when my youngest at primary school brought home a book for reading which I thought was a bit near the mark. Their reply was that they thought my daughter was mature enough to read the book and so that was ok! This was 5/6 years ago by the way. -
Did your daughter attend DUCKS successfully?
minder replied to Bionic_Dave's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I don't know about DUCKS personally, other than from the forum (and your question A) but I can see what you mean as their website has photos of practically all boys at the school! I wouldn't worry as each child would have to be monitored individually under the EYFS up until Reception age. Don't know how this would work with private schools at 7+ intake though. There's another post on here about more boys than girls at Dulwich Village Infant's School reception intake.
