  1. It is a great hospital, right on our doorstep but everybody has such different experiences.
  2. That's great about King's but early diagnosis for cancer is something that's been in the press today. Doctors should be trained about early symptoms of cancer.
  3. Thank you for letting us know.
  4. Interesting full page article about tongue-tie and feeding in the Daily Mail today. Web address is tongue-tie.org.uk but not sure if it has info about later years.
  5. Hi Bikechick, hopefully you've not lost your ?35, but I'm also very sorry that the owner of simplychildcare has passed away. Simplychildcare have been very helpful to me when I first started out as a childminder and I remember the type-written lists of parents looking for childcare/childcarers looking for work that I used to receive from them, with lots of helpful phonecalls in-between. Your title thread BEWARE seems a bit extreme to me.
  6. It's a bit confusing, but I don't think the nursery are allowed to charge parents for any part of the 15 hours, even if it means the nursery (or a childminder) are charging more than ?4.10 an hour for hours outside the free 15 hours. It might be different for the 3 year olds funding but info received in December from Southwark Council for the 2 year old free 15 hour funding asks the question: Will parents be charged for the free early learning offer? Answer is: Providers cannot charge parents for any part of the 15 hours free early learning. Providers who charge for goods or services such as registration, lunch or uniform fees cannot do so as a condition of children accessing this offer. I would contact the Family Information Service tomorrow if I were you.

    Rspc

I would get there as early as possible as there are major roadworks right outside the shop (donated some bits last week). There are usually queues going back quite a way on the day too so good luck!
  8. Yes things change so much. My daughter was offered a place at Dulwich Hamlets as we were considered to be within 12 minutes walking distance of the school (not sure what this is in measurementS).
  9. Hi DulwichBornandBred, I've just seen this message from Manny Amadi as an email from the The Charter. I wouldn't have thought of putting it on the EDF but I suppose as sam puts it where would the new school be? Who would find/fund the teachers? I do feel like I've not been keeping up with things going on with my Year 10 daughter recently, but after asking her tonight how her day back was after the Easter break I feel I must get back on top of things.
  10. Crazy. But in Thursday's Southwark News a report about 'First new Heygate flats go on sale - in Singapore' Here's the full article: Elephant and Castle: The first new homes on the former Heygate Estate went on sale nearly 7,000 miles away at the weekend. Singapore property buyers and investors were able to learn more about the first 360 homes in Elephant Park, described as one of London's up and coming areas at an exhibition at a posh hotel in the city-state on Saturday and Sunday. Guide prices go from ?380,000 for one bedroom units to ?460,000 for two bedroom 'apartments'. Critics have accused Southwark Council and developers, Lend Lease of social cleansing after a chunk of social housing was lost in the sale of the Heygate, with only 76 social rents included in the new 'Heygate Masterplan'. Southwark Council says the money made from sales such as the Heygate will fund social housing elsewhere in the borough, pledging to build 1,000-1,500 new council homes in the next four years as part of a commitment to build a total of 11,000 over 30 years.
  11. Just read your link EDLove. Thanks for that. Always thought Shaun Bailey was ok but now I've read this piece I've changed my mind! By the way who decides which areas suddenly become the place everybody wants to live? The estate agents no doubt. Why should 'poorer' people as you put it be forced out of their homes that they've lived in for years? Agree with Pokertime about the Heygate Estate, just near the Elephant and Castle. People were moved from their homes of many years and were promised alternatives. This never happened and of course the builders moved in and created 'luxury' flats. Are you trying to say that every working class person should be forced out of London just because the government didn't replace housing stock lost to the 'Right to Buy' policy?
  12. A few weeks ago, one of my blue bins was moved by somebody during the night and wasn't collected. Your recycling doesn't have to be in clear bags anyway so that's no problem. I have to have 2 blue bins for recycling (day for us is Friday by the way) and they're always emptied.
  13. Well, we will have to wait until Tuesday 8th April for a decision!
  14. Bit too far for me but glad you had a good day!
  15. What a worry for you. Hope you got your antibiotics from Seldoc, especially on a Sunday after 4pm, when Sainsburys closes. This I've learned from a recent trip to Seldoc about something completely different from mastitis but just as painful! I had mastitis nearly 18 years ago and I still have the side-effects now.
  16. Just asked my 21 year old son to shut the living room door as he came in. His reply was "you spend the whole day moaning"!

    Kate Bush

Wuthering Heights was just something so different at the time but my fav from Kate was Running Up That Hill. Last time I heard anything about Kate was that she was a recluse living away from it all and wanted to protect her son. Shame she's kept herself undercover for so long. Hope it's worth the wait!
  18. Come on James, you might as well let it out of the bag!
  19. SE22mum, don't give sickness as a reason, as they will prob go down with an illness just when due to go back to school!
  20. Wondering why the roadworks along East Dulwich Grove, coming from North Dulwich, or East Dulwich are necessary? All that seems to be done is widening of the pavements and at some points it's really dangerous, as suddenly when you are driving along, there is a piece of pavement jutting out for some reason. Why do the pavements need to be widened? Also in thick black tarmac? With the 37 buses coming both ways it's already creating a lot of traffic build up when before 2 double deckers could pass alongside each other without any problems. The same thing is happening on Denmark Hill and the bus lanes seem to be disappearing.
  21. That's great ontherun. Once you're admitted to the wards though, it's sometimes pot luck on the care you receive. If you don't have family/friends I dread to think how many patients get by. As posted, my Mum was due an op a couple of years ago in day surgery and it was only because we noticed a discrepancy on her operation for the next day that she could have ended up with the wrong breast removed. I can't imagine what effect this would have had on my Mum on waking up! She had been the strongest person there for her extended family before this.
  22. Two care home nurses accused of maltreating someone they were meant to be looking after. In this case a poor young boy who tried to make his feelings known. The footage on the news tonight reduced me to tears. One of the women came out of the hearing texting away on her phone!
  23. Have you considered using a registered childminder? They can offer the same service for your 2.6 year old? Just a thought as some 2 year olds still need the reassurance of a smaller setting. I know I tried with my youngest, now 15, when she started at a pre-school in St Faith's Community Centre for a couple of mornings. Parents had to attend for some sessions too and as she got so upset, I gave up as I felt I could offer her more at home.
  24. He does look a big boy. Hope you find it's owner. I've had this problem with a big male cat coming in the house terrorising my three females. They're all neutered. One of mine used to be out day and night but she justs wants to stay in a lot now. I used to be able to leave the catflap open at night but now for the past 4/5 months have had to lock mine in of a night. He comes in during the daytime too as as soon as I put the key in the front door he races out the catflap. Trouble with the collar controlled catflaps is that a few times my cats rush towards the catflap from the garden (being chased by this other cat) and literally skid/fling themselves through! I think if they had to wait a few seconds for it to work they might injure themselves. The cat comes in mainly for food I think but is aggressive too.
