  1. I wouldn't worry about re-thinking your choices at this moment, although of course it must be a worry. Obviously the parents, teachers and Governors have been informed before the Xmas break, so your friends will probably be able to tell you more in the New Year when the school re-opens.

    Happy Christmas!

Suniil I've just watched your daughter singing and it brought tears to my eyes. Like Jesus Christ, my Mum was a Christmas Day baby (very special). She won't be here for her birthday and Christmas Day tomorrow but we will try to celebrate as she would have wanted us to. It will be hard but Happy Christmas to everybody!
  3. Yes there is one just as you leave the main exit, on your right hand side.
  4. Bessemer Grange stay and play not on tomorrow. Phoned them today to check but nothing on.
  5. Yes Vicki, I also couldn't believe the comment about "scum bag children"? Vanessa, it's good that you've asked for comments as I prob wouldn't have thought of coming on the EDF about trips arranged by schools. Just to say that my daughter went on the Cornwall trip with The Charter two years ago (she's now in Year 10) but I don't remember having to pay the deposit so early and then the rest was in instalments. They went by coach so travel costs are involved and probably insurance etc. She had a fantastic time with swimming, canoeing, wall climbing and bonding with kids from all over the country once they got there. Trouble is, she came home yesterday with a letter about a trip planned for February. The full amount has to be paid by 18th December and as Year 10 have a lot on at the moment I'm saying no to this one.
  6. At 7, if they've had a good time at the party then maybe don't worry about a party bag! They're sure to go home talking about the party rather than afterwards. Then again, I finished with party bags at about age 10/11 for my kids. A bit of cake and a pencil or something is ok? I think us adults always worry about everything and our kids are ok about it. Sorry to go off topic but 'show me the child at 7 and I will show you the man' Have a good time.
  7. There was a tiny bit in the newspaper today saying 'Mandela is on his deathbed, says daughter'. I read it and feared the worst for his family.
  8. Well, James Barber started the thread so maybe he went along but thanks for bringing this to our attention James. Was Kim there too? Especially as he was once head of Southwark Housing.
  9. Well, Melissa edited her original post on Sunday afternoon at 1.32pm to say all her stuff was gone. Gone where? We will never know!! Thought she wasn't very well? I've had a table at two of Peekaboo's sales and have always been impressed with everything.
  10. The Charter School are holding a Christmas Pop-Up Emporium Christmas Fair this Thursday evening between 5-8.30pm Over 40 stalls selling designer-maker goods including fashion, accessories, toiletries, food, drink and much more. Their tombola sounds good too with some great prizes from local businesses. Free entry.
  11. We recently had to go through this (having a cat put down) and realised that we didn't even have a clip of fur to remember Elsa by (other than by photos) and we really miss her.
  12. It's also not unheard of to foster a child and then to adopt them?
  13. I wouldn't worry about living in an ex-council block natalieh. As for neighbours, you can get good and bad (or both) neighbours wherever you live. bonacara's reply to your OP comes across as quite snobbish really. Everything and then "They are all slowly turning into private residencies".
  14. No, but I saw a well-loved bedraggled white sheep with purple feet and head today. It was lying on a house wall opposite The Charter School, near the P4 bus stop. Hope you find your rabbit.
  15. Maybe go for Upsy Daisy from In the Night Garden or any other cloth type dolly that nearly 2 year olds tend to play with. If the Barbie doll is there and in front of her then of course she will play with it?
  16. Xmas and the New Year seems ages away for me, but this post was way back in 2006.
  17. Can't think of anything materialistic really, if that's what you mean?
  18. Thanks for all the updates. Just wondering if the building is big enough for a cinema?
  19. After replying to a post about what's happening to the Fred Francis Day Centre and whether it could be used as a nursery, I suddenly thought of the St Thomas More Hall. Did that move forward on the nursery front?
  20. Yes, I think it's due for closure (my Dad has been and now currently goes to the Fred Francis Day Centre) but don't know what it's going to be after that. It's all to do with Southwark's plan on future care for people with Dementia and Alzheimers Disease.
  21. I don't know what to say really. The Christmas hype by the major stores are meant to make us feel all lovely to buy their over-priced bits even though there's so much more going on in the world. My dear Mum would have been 80 this Christmas Day but she only had an orange as a birthday/Christmas day present during her childhood.
  22. Yes, it's good to know the shops on Half Moon Lane have re-opened but sometimes I found this shop lacking in customer service.
  23. I noticed that too Laur. Reminds me of catching the old routemaster No. 3 bus home from Kingsdale in the late 70s. We would all be hanging off the end! The old photo of the Kings on the Rye brings back memories too. Everytime I go past the whitewash building now it just looks so out of place to what I remember.
  24. You could try taking your son to the local toddler group or Children's Centre. From your post he's 5/6 months but it's a good way to find childminders in your area and have a chat! I spoke to a parent last week at my local Children's Centre who was looking for care for her baby next March. I couldn't help but know childminders in the area who could and put her in contact. Childminders are few and far between at the moment as the government are putting lots of pressure on the way we operate but I just carry on as normal, as I've done for many years. It's a shame as a lot of would-be childminders are put off and it would help a lot of parents who are looking for childcare. Through word of mouth I've filled a space for the New Year. My parent told me in the summer that they would be leaving (due to having baby end of year). Good luck.
  25. Thanks for the info Louisa! Remember buying a halter-neck or two at C&A in the 70s!
