Not really, but as a registered childminder I've got to know them over the years.
-
I wouldn't read too much into it and just happily accept that you got a place at The Charter School.
-
Yes, congratulations to Bessemer Grange. I suppose the Ofsted inspectors know what's happening with the school for the future and as there's a lot of building work going on they would have seen for themselves if more classes could be added. Also Ofsted must be satisfied that there's enough staff for Bessemer to cope with the classes that are already there and enough staff to cope with lunchtime, P.E. and playground time.
-
Bessemer has certainly got bigger since my three children attended and there is a new building being created across the road (which was the original nursery/reception) and so 'bulge' classes could be made this way. Bessemer are also advertising for staff for the 2 year old provision so they will also have to make room for this somewhere.

Yes it's 180 places that can be offered in Year 7 and The Charter have this info on their website anyway.

Met up with my friend in the Plough last Thursday evening and was surprised to be charged ?10.20 for two medium rose wine spritzers (quarter wine, three quarters soda water). Goodness knows what two glasses of wine would have cost but I was driving so stuck to a coffee afterwards.

Boxing at 37 is even more worrying!
-
Used to watch boxing matches on the TV with my Dad years ago as he was a top boxer in his days in the army and he also trained youngsters but just watching the one tonight made me flinch and feel physically ill and worried for the safety of both fighters.

Well RPC was one of 2 people on the forum who pm'd me about donating stuff for my Xmas Alzheimers sale last December. She appeared one afternoon with lots of bits that helped me raise money for the Alzheimers Society and I'm forever grateful.
-
What's happening with people posting title of threads in all capitals and items for sale in separate threads? Mine have been taken off in the past for the latter so just wondering as I've seen lots on recently.

Think they should be open this week. Some were closed and some only had a few things going on during the half term but maybe give them a ring to find out.

Should i MMR vaccinate my child?

OK Sillywoman, maybe the word 'insist' might be the wrong word but no need to make a big deal of it! -
Should i MMR vaccinate my child?
minder replied to EastDulwichRose's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi EastDulwichRose, I'm quite shocked that your GP has not insisted instead of just asking about the MMR, although usually it's health visitors that send out dates the vaccines are due with parents overseeing the red book recommendations. -

Couldn't you just squash them up and put them in your blue recycling bin? -
Rowanofski I sympathise with you. Seems like Southwark are setting up cameras in hotspots all over the borough just to make more money. Going back to 2013. I had to pick up a parcel at the Camberwell Post Office collecting office on Station Road as wasn't in on the day postman tried to deliver (sure applies to lots of people). Camberwell Station Road is very very wide but as there were no designated parking spaces, husband parked for exactly 2 minutes while I ran in to collect. Received a PCN with terrible photos with a tree obscuring the fact that husband was at wheel of car with engine running so not exactly parked. Also went on and on about the 50cm specified distance from the kerb. I appealed the original ?130 but Southwark said the term 'stopped', 'parked', and 'waiting' are synonymous blah blah and as they couldn't see my husband in the driving seat (obscured by tree branches) I still had to pay. A neighbour got the same fine so beware the Camberwell Station Road collection point!

Very strange that owner had left his van there for 3 weeks after breaking down. Why didn't he get it fixed? Good for you to enquire newboots as who knows it could have been stolen or something. I've had two cars stolen in the past and both were left outside people's places for weeks without somebody realising something not right, even though it was taxed and in one case all the windows were wound down. On both occasions the Police just phoned to say vehicle had been located on said street and to collect.

Query: Year 1 - taking a week out in term time
minder replied to standswithfist's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Pickle I've not accused (bit of a strong word) somebody of being flippant, just their remark 'do it anyway'. Where was I rude in any of my comments? It seems from one post of mine on 29th Jan everybody assumes I'm against parents taking their children out of school during term-time (I don't care if they do) but the posts have flowed from there. From these posts, I must be in the minority of parents that have worked around any absences for my 3 during the 13 weeks holidays and weekends? Edited to add that my Mum's funeral and brother in laws wedding were days when I didn't care. -

Thanks for enlightening me on this Curmudgeon 'Nope, we don't get attendance records until student is on roll' So you are obviously somebody who knows about secondary school criteria but I just thought your remark 'do it anyway' to the OP was quite flippant. -
Hi, just to say that a 'playgroup' in London sometimes means a group where the parent/carer takes the child for a couple of hours a day and they are responsible for the child at the time. You're probably looking for a nursery and Blossoms Montessori is very good.

Query: Year 1 - taking a week out in term time
minder replied to standswithfist's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yes, I know it's not a criteria for secondary schools but maybe it should be. For instance, if you have two next door neighbours and they want to go to a secondary school and both fulfil all the other criteria? How does a school choose? Just a thought. I'm so glad I don't have to go through the selection process again for primary and secondary schools but that's maybe another thread. -
Query: Year 1 - taking a week out in term time
minder replied to standswithfist's topic in The Family Room Discussion
What I meant with the secondary schools taking account of attendance levels was that if a parent applies for a place at a chosen secondary school for Year 7, then the secondary school will obviously see attendance records at primary school? As I said in my post of the 29th each to their own reasons for taking their child out of school for a week and it's up to them. Wonder if the OP had any pms? -
Query: Year 1 - taking a week out in term time
minder replied to standswithfist's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Well yes. Especially as lots of other parents might have been very lucky to get their child into a school of their choice. If they choose to then take their child out during a week of learning then the school should be made aware of this for future reference. Secondary schools do take account of attendance levels too. -
I was behind a learner driver this afternoon from Herne Hill to the junction at King's on Denmark Hill and he kept to the 20mph. Bit of a queue behind me but quite nice actually but a bit awkward at the right turn into the station. Then again noticed that there's big flag blowing material things with 20mph on high posts outside Ruskin Park even though Ruskin Park comes under Lambeth so Lambeth will prob be next with the 20mph.

It's not nearly 50 years ago but nearly 52 years ago.
